After thinking about it for a while. This is actually Gordon's second baseball title. They won one under Tom Clark, I believe, in the mid 80s, although I can't remember the exact year right off hand.
Time has seemed to have passed Middle Georgia College by as a 2-year baseball power / juggernaut athletic program. In years past, especially over the last two decades, they have advanced to the World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado and come home with the national title trophy in tow.
Players coming out of high school that had been drafted by a MLB team, but wasn't really ready to play at that level were sent to MGC for a couple of years to hone their skills, and hopefully be drafted again at some point. That was a built in recruiting tool for the state's premier junior college program.
The Warriors giving up 23 runs in a game seems unconscionable... Parity in the ranks has apparently caught up to them. Or, maybe their recruiting is not as good as it once was... Then again, maybe they just took Gordon for granted, since they -- the warriors -- were the regular season conference champs.
I believe they last won the title in 1991. Regardless, congratulations to the team and coaches for all the hard work they have put in. Hopefully, there will be a large turnout at the games this weekend to show support for Gordon. Friday's game will be at 3:00, Saturday's game at 2:00, and Sunday's game (if needed) will be at 2:00 as well. Everyone come out and show your support!
