Long little more than a pipe dream, commuter rail service linking Atlanta and Macon has new impetus after a recently released study by the prestigious Brookings Institute.

After seeing that video on Youtube and the way the youths of Barnesville are behaving, would you want a train to stop here. Color aside, any person acting like that needs dealing with, black or white...
For me, the issue is paying taxes for a service not provided, not needed and perhaps not even wanted.
As far as the other issues brought up? The misbehavior of society's children are but a sign of the times. It gives us a microscopic view as to what other, larger communities deal with on a much more intense scale i.e Macon.
All communities, large and small are not fairing well in the current economy. You can't have endless wars, the outsourcing of manufacturing, (Thank you Nafta and GAT) combined with intellectual atrophy and expect to prosper.
I, for one, am greatful to be able to raise my children in this community which, though not perfect is a far cry from raising them in the city.
ron says 1) "I, for one, am greatful to be able to raise my children in this community " ---fella you need your head tested.
2)"the outsourcing of manufacturing"---well dang how about a work force that will show up every day for work, and not call in every monday because they got so drunk watch'n little fag dale race.or their husband beat them up.
3)"The misbehavior of society's children are but a sign of the times"---oh what crap, the kids are that way because your to busy with your buddies at the bar quoting sports stats or hanging out at the damn deer camp,or playing cow pasture pool with the guy's
I am afraid if you do not threaten-bitch complain-or leave the city or county you are going to get the tax anyway, because I do not think the powers at large care what you think. They are the know all-see all type that just will not pass up a tax, because they have the mindset of "Keeping Up with The Joneses" no matter what it cost the taxpayer.
A good protest march in the streets with signs against the coming tax hike should really set things in motion--at least get their attention--don' you think--HA
Commuter rail will return to Georgia and Barnesville should be part of the route as it once was (Nancy Hanks). Has anyone form Barnesville been to Europe or the Northeast US?
Plenty of commuter rail there. Highways are subsidized by the gas tax by the way.
Haha, 90 MPH, funny. The track through Barnesville is only class 2 track (maximum 25 MPH) and thats after NS put all the ties in and surfaced it recently. You will be lucky to upgrade 49 MPH (Class 3) track without putting in much larger rail and completely rebuilding the substructure. That will cost millions. I think we all know that won't happen.
Bubba,
though I agree with you that many parents do not supervise their kids, do not even have a clue as to what they are doing or where they are most times, it is my observation, (and yes, I participate in the commumity, coaching etc.) these parents are in the minority. Most parents I come in contact with are good parents, and enjoy what small community has to offer in bringing up a family.
Your assumptions of me are quite wrong and grossly inaccurate.

Obammy wants to be able to haul his homies out of downtown Atlanta and he wants to use trains to do it.
