Days after being cleared of charges of allegedly taping a riot control grenade to an inmate's neck, former LCSO captain Grier T. Smith is calling for sheriff Larry Waller to step down.

This is not over. The D.A. can bring it to the grand jury whenever new evidence comes to light. I support Sheriff Waller. He did the right thing by letting another agency investigate the allegations. Do not let them win by resigning Mr. Waller.
What a joke. If it weren't so pathetic, it would be funny. (And he will sure regardless, and not collect anything)
From what I understand, Mr. Waller called in the GBI to investigate this, they did, and presented it to the grand jury. Smith was no billed, he should be THANKFUL and move along.
My question is, why would this be considered a "Breaking story" because a citizen is making an irrational demand of an official? Happens all the time.
Red Flag - "I don't want to sue the county because the taxpayers will suffer in the end."
If you have been wronged then you wouldn't have any problem taking action. That comment sounds like a subtle plea to the public for sympathy. It sounds like you want to get revenge on Waller and you seek the public to be on your side.
I have nothing against you or Waller but I despise a wolf in sheep’s clothing trying to hide under a halo while toting a pitchfork in their hand.
oh lord can you see the temper tantrum that ol waller will pitch from this one. hay Grier, dont worry about the citizens of lamar county they are the ones that elected the guy.let'em pay
Funny how you didn't ask Joe to resign.... Because you knew he would finally get you. Two times in as many years you have had to appear to defend yourself in front of the Grand Jury.... I find nothing you say creditable.... As for the rest of the Jerry Springer gang here, had the Sheriff not investigated this you same people would be saying its the same Good Ole Boy network protecting their own. Well allegations were made; the Sheriff calls in the GBI to investigate because it involved an Officer even though he was no longer employed. Where is this wrong? Again had he not and nothing was done you same people would be screaming. Or if he did investigate it internally and the these results occurred you would be screaming Good Ole Boy network. Folks you can't have it both ways. The issue here and its already been stated he gets to defend himself in front of the Grand Jury then the ADA or DA makes a recommendation. So I don't see how either Sheriff past or present can be blamed, he must have done something that was bad enough to cause an investigation. I think we need to look at the Jurors and the DA's office. As for Grier well you have been called up twice for some reason and it makes me wonder about your creditability....
Please read the law on Grand Juries and law enforcement. The Law Enforcement officer has the last word, and there is no recommendation from the DA- The DA simply lays out the evidence and the GBI presents it.
Grier admits taping a "dummy" (notice the quotation marks) round on a county inmate.
Current Sheriff calls in second agency due to a complaint againts his department that was handled in-house by the prior administration.
Grier is found innocent by grand jury even after admitting to taping a "dummy" round (but was sure to tape the pin down) around the neck of an inmate so out of it due to drugs that he can't even remember anything that happened.
Grier threatens to sue the Sheriff for referring the case to the GBI. (Extortion anyone?)
Just making sure I had the timeline correct. Grier using the lines "I don't want to cause the county money" and "I'll donate everything to charity" is simply to get the airheaded to bash Waller and get behind the saint Grier. The same saint that has been before the grand jury TWICE now under BOTH Sheriff administrations. I can't be the only one that sees through this right?
Get over yourself Mr. Smith. The GBI found sufficient evidence to bring this matter before the Grand Jury, not Waller. You threaten to sue as if you are sure you will win. People bring suits all the time, and it does not mean the verdict will end in their favor. If anything, taxpayers money would be wasted on defending this ridiculous matter on Waller's behalf, as a county official. Thank your lucky stars it was no billed and get on with your life. You caught another break. Go play the lottery.
Mr. Smith you should let this go and move on with your life. Be thankful that you have your life back. Sheriff Waller did the right thing and I support him.
This should not be a breaking story....in fact why is this even news!
Grier you need to let go of you anger and move on.
Please do not concern yourselves with any threat Grier Smith makes about suing the county. If he does then I will sue him and will give the county the money back!
For the people who were on the grand jury:
Grier lied to you and took advantage of the fact that you trust what he says. Grier is a very sick individual and needs help. He has always made his way in this life by bullying and being manipulative. He is a psychopath and meets the same personality and character profile of those who do terrorist acts to hurt our country. He will soon be found out. There is a higher court watching everything that is going on and the truth always come to the surface. Keep giving the man his rope...he will hang himself. Its only a matter of time.
Edward Lee Shepard, you are a laughing joke-comments like "He is a psychopath and meets the same personality and character profile of those who do terrorist acts to hurt our country" only go to show just how stupid you realy are.i'v known you for a long time and you wonder why nobody has any use for you.well comments like that are why
He doesnt sound like a lunatic to me. He should sue the hell out of GS! There is nothing that GS can say that will change the minds of rational thinking people. He admitted to wrong doing and still got off....Can this case go civil? I would say let it be done and over with but having the balls to demand the sheriff resign topped the scale. And Grier, somewhere down in that guttless, souless body of yours, you know what you did was wrong. Hey do you still carry around that rambo knife that you use to strap on when you worked at the SO.....what a man you are!

You know me? LOL
If you knew ME then you would have the courage to put your name with your statement.
Would you like to meet in person? Maybe we can catch up on each other.....since you say you know me. Hmmmm?
The GBI investigated the case and took it to the DA. I don't see how Greir can be mad at Sheriff Waller for anything, except refusing to cover up for him. And a grand jury no bill does not mean he is not guilty. It only means there wasn't enough evidence presented to bind the case over for trial. I'm frankly suprised Grier & the county haven't been sued by the guy who had the grenade taped to his neck. Maybe that'll be forthcoming too?
IT'S OVER WITH...NOW SHUT UP AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE. UNLESS THIS IS YOUR LIFE TO KEEP CRAP GOING. AFTER ALL IF YOU HADN'T DONE THIS CRIME NO CHARGES WOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT UP. YOU ARE CLEARED....SO GET A LIFE
GS why dont you do something with your time...like go on a diet. You are a very lucky man. You need to be thankful that you had a jury of idiots. I hope because of your ranting and lies, that new evidence is found and this case goes back to court. You have no one to blame but yourself. Its funny how you keep ending up in court. There must be a problem and that problem is you. Thank god you are no longer in law enforcement here!!!!
Grier should be sued by the guy who had the grenade taped to his neck.....Grier- just shut up and sit down.....we are tired of seeing your ugly mugshot anyway.
Based on Griers own testimony and account of the situation alone, I believe the former inmate can sue him, and even possibly file for summary judgement based on Smiths own testimony.
If this former inmate decides to obtain an attorney, or as I suspect, one obtains him after reading all these news accounts, then Mr. Grier better beware, because all his grandstanding has now brought this case to light. I tend to believe this is just getting started.
Congradulations, Mr. Smith. You have just opened yourself a whole new can of worms.

Please, Mr. Smith, go for a psyc. evaluation.
Are you going to demand that you be elected sheriff, too?
Please talk to your pastor, lawyer, parents and family and try to get some sound, stable advice.
Your mental health is greatly in question.
What Mr. Smith did is questionable, i don't agree with it but some people might. The fuss he is making now is just plain out wrong. Sheriff Waller did his job, and continues to do so, in making sure everyone in Lamar county is safe, including the inmates. Mr. Smith needs to grow up and take it like a man that he got caught doing something he shouldn't have been.
I think everything was done to investigate the situation correctly. Smith go on with your life. And stop harrasing people it justs makes you look bad. If you do not like what is happening in Lamar county MOVE OUT
Smith is an idiot! I hope that inmate gets him a lawyer and sues the crap out of him. Smith belongs behind bars. He's paving the way to get there! Sheriff Waller.....continue doing your job! Well done!
i think that both of the should pray about it. and i dont think mr.smith should sue anyone i think he should pray about it. why cant we just all get alone. and do god will and not our on will
I do not agree with the way Sheriff Waller handles (or in some cases, does not handle) things within his department. I had a recent run-in with the LCSO and the Sheriff over the way something was done that should have been handled much differently.
Having said that, I feel that Sheriff Waller handled this properly, in as far as going outside the department to an unbiased investigatory source. This indemnified the department and himself of any appearance of impropriety. Very intelligent move.
Grier needs to learn to appreciate the fact that he was investigated fairly and reasonably and exonerated.

I believe Mr. Smith should seek the advice of an attorney.

Somebody's trying to rally support for a case he knows he doesn't have. What a laugh...

Both mom and son were indicted by June term grand jury.
