Citizens of Lamar and Pike counties should be vigilant in the coming months as projects are prioritized for transportation SPLOST initiatives to be placed on the ballot in 2012.

It’s time to face our fear and recognize we have to do something to wean ourselves from the nipple of fossil fuel. More roads aren’t the answer but a mass transit system could be part of a short-term solution. A cluster of counties working together for a plan and revenues may be the only solution for projects of such magnitude. If there are no jobs in rural Georgia at least provide a means to get to where they are (in the metro area). A rail system could be the solution. For the same few jobs in Lamar there are many time more in metro areas and at twice the pay. For those who choose to stay close to home your employer would then have to compete with the increase compensation of have the option to work else where. Nothing personal...it's just bussiness.
The majority of us like our personal vehicles and do not want to be subject to the limitations and inconvienence of mass transit. Do you even factor that in?
I don’t have a problem with POVs, I own several myself. But what I do take in consideration is the reality of how the situation will be 25-30 years from now. In some places in the Atlanta metro area the expressway is 14 to 16 lanes wide: for example in north Gwinnett. I put 750 miles a week on my car just to and from work and there is many more in Lamar who are doing the same. Mass transit is going to be expressive now, but in the future it’s going to really, really hurt.
What in the world! The Herald Gazette poo-pooing Republican project enacted by our Republican General Assembly and pushed through our Republican Governor? You'd almost think the democrats were still running things in the great State of Georgia!
Might want to revise and update. MASS transit, aka MARTA, would allow MASSES of the type shown in the vid easy access to places such as Barnesville. Any rapid rail through Barnesville would have connections with the MARTA system allowing such as the video star easy access to new venues for their antics.
Thanks, but entertainment such as this can stay within the city limits of the ATL.
Any type of tax increase should be met with a vengeance. We pay enough now without any more or any kind of increase.
A question for all the pro tax folks. JUST HOW MUCH OF A PRESON OR FAMILY WEALTH SHOULD THEY HAVE TO PAY? What percentage? For your information most of us live on less than 50% out of every dollar earned. It's right at 46% now. Where do you people end this? Very much more and we will be handing over everything and living on what the bloated gov. will let you have. Stop it now.

The video MARTA star can stay right where it is currently.
No need for $500 million tax dollars so loons like this can migrate.
