Millions of dollars and the finest turf money can buy for games but they can't keep the educational programs running. I guess they forgot why we really have schools.
You know, I'm really not a football fan. But a sport like this does build community. It puts more pride in the school system. When LCHS athletics become even more significant in the regional effort it will without a doubt have a positive influence on the GPA of the educational system. Lamar is a small county compared to its neighbors and the population and bussiness community also does not compare. I have seen a significant move forward in what it has to offer its citizens along with a higher caliber leadership. There are many folks doing the best they know how for what resources that are made available so lets cut them some slack. Negativity will get you no where but the same as what you had before.
Looks nice Im glad to see the county taking pride. All other countys have nice fields for their kids.something we have been needing for a long time.Would have been nice last year for graduation, since we had rain that night.Great job.
Yep. 5 million bucks is never too much to pay for football. The better turf and flatter dryer field will raise all the grades of students and help them get jobs. It is an excellent investment in our future compared to the grades people get playing on dirt, plus other countries will think we are poor.
Rather see grass. If vandles tear it up by spray painting or driving a vehicle around, grass and dirt would be an easy fix, but this? I wonder if anyone thought about it
Grass is a much better field to play on, the rubberized turf is better than hard surfaces or cement backed, but its still not as kid for kids as natural grass. The field gives more than natural grass, it plays similar to a slightly wet grass b/c of the rubber padding. There are schools taking this type of field back up b/c of the injuries it has caused. It's an easy way to not have to deal with maintaining a field is what it looks like to me at a very high price tag for the tax payers.
builds community ? well i guess.dont worry about education, after all everybody knows that if you build a multi million dollar football field all students will have a brighter future their grades will be better they wont have kids that someone else has to raise they wont get involved in drugs or gangs.to heck with an education lets just all be a bunch of "JOCK-SNIFFERS"
When I was in high school we had only 200 students. It was a rural farm community. We had a nice biology and science lab, a shop with welders and lathes and milling machines and a drafting class area, a typing class, and auto shop with paint booth and a mechanical area. We had a nice library full of new books. We had a grassy area in the back with a few open seats for a football team or other outdoor sports.
Everyone was OK with it all because if it rained we could have events in our nice indoor gym. Many of the kids came out to be either skilled at a good paying trade or went on to college. Many of us wound up owning or managing businesses.
I look in awe at this new multi-million dollar stadium with professional turf. When that is coupled with the modern library full of new books, the new science and biology lab, the large shop area that can train people for skilled trades like painting, welding, and machine work, the large drafting room, and the computer work area nothing will hold our children back.
What a wonderful addition to all the other stae-of-the-art educational tools we give our students! I wish our little rural farming community had the vision to install an astro-turf stadium instead of spending so much on the needless things like that modern biology lab.
Gorgeous complex... Lamar Co. is continuously upgrading their facilities in all sports. The community should take great pride in this progress. Just an observation -- but, the seeds are being planted for future growth in the community. Hopefully, this will be the catalyst that will help the won-loss records to follow suit in all sports. Kudos to the folks that have the vision for this future growth and success. There's no reason -- whatsoever -- that Lamar Co. should take a backseat to any of the counties in region that their sports teams participate... It just takes commitment from the community and lots of hard work. Success comes at a price -- but, you've got to be willing to pay it.
I think it's great. The kids in this town deserve something to be proud of. I can't wait to see the auditorium as it comes together as well. Projects like these instill a since of pride in students and communities. This town is starting to move out of the slump it's been in for so long. I, for one, am glad to see it.
People quit blaming the educators in Lamar County on your childs grades. All the teachers can do is teach. If they had more support from parents grades would improve. Parents have got to get involved with the school and with their children. If there was more of that grades would improve and self-esteem. Some of these kids are raising themselves. It is sad to say but at the primary school I witnessed parents bringing their childrens valentines still in an unopened box for the teacher or child to do at school. This is the parents responsibilty not the teachers. This should be a special time for you and you child to sit down and do something together. Get involved with your child and your child's school. I have seen people that have graduated from Lamar County and are doctors, lawyers, etc. Get with the program and encourage your children to make something out of their life.
A nice sports complex is good for the ego of people who have nothing else in life to look forward to. It's like a $4000 set of low low tires and fancy extra wide wheels on a oil burning 12 mpg 1972 impala. We may not appreciate the value, but it does give people something to feel good about. If God didn't want us to look good in life He would have made peacocks and cardnals have gray feathers.
the sad thing is people around here never would have voted for that tax if it was to pay teachers or actually improve education. they only voted for it because it makes them feel good about themselves.
its a gross mis-use of funds for a team that cant win.need to concentrate on a proper weight program and diet to build bulk so they can win once in awhile before investing in a new stadium.
The team will start winning. It's an expensive incentive, but it will work. It will also serve to instill some pride in the the people that live in this area. Yeah, I know that big ole' Ingles and the couple of gas stations that stay open past 10 are pretty cool, but when visitors to this metropolis drive through they might say "hey, why don't we move here and bring our money with us?" That wouldn't be so bad would it? Maybe it will help to cover up some of the mouth breathing ignorance that abides in this town. I know it won't make anybody smarter, but it might make us some money right? That's all that really matters.
In summation:
New stadium = more money + something else to do besides posting on this site
Shut up about it making kids any smarter, you could care less. $$$$$$
Just an observation, how come when men do a job, there may be one man doing something with a piece of equipment, and there are 4 more men standing around watching?
Do they all get paid for being there?
I'm just saying.
Well said #10. I am so sick of listening to everyone complaining about the test scores! If they would just devote half of the time they spend b**ching oh I'm sorry blogging on here. To sitting down and actually helping their child with his/her homework then maybe just maybe those test scores that they love to complain about may actually start to improve.
Although as we have discussed many many times before the test scores in large part are due to the fact that we have to count the school systems scores as a whole due to the "No Child Left Behind". (I am going to type it more slowly for you this time) Again that means that even the children for whatever reason whether it be learning disability, Austism, whatever all test scores have to be counted. So I really don't look at those scores as much as some of you do. If my children are doing good in school and I know that I am doing all that I can for them at home, and I am involved in school then I have no worries.
Give these kids a break they need something to be proud of. If you don't like it then by all means don't come to the new stadium that you keep complaining about. The last thing those kids need is to hear some ignorant fool trying to bring them down when their coaches, parents, peers, and team members will be pumping them up for a great "New Beginning". Because that is what it is whether you like it or not. What's done is done all the complaining in the world isn't going to take that turf up, or get them to stop building. So either be a part of the community and support out future leaders or take a backseat and be quiet please and let the rest of us enjoy it.
My family has watched my younger brother play @ the old feild for 4 years, and we will miss going to the feild cause he Graduated in "08" and as many comments are made on the new feild, I just laugh because if we are not going forward then we are all sitting still.
Wow alot of money, but can we get a coaching staff in here to win some games. It's kinda bad to have the best field in the Middle Georgia area and can't win a football game. Let play like our new field look.. I'm happy for lamar county. But nothing beats the old grass.
It is really about time they have started doing something for the school. Sometimes I wonder when will they build another High School. Most of all the surrounding counties have new High Schools why can't we???
