The murder of Donna Johnson on July 16, 1984 changed Barnesville-Lamar County for good.
Many - particularly those in the Piedmont community - began locking doors to their homes which had never before seen a latch.
Firearms permits sold like lemonade on a hot day.

That's going to be a difficult explanation when you're standing before God explaining your accountability.
Better to do it now. Late is better than never and there is no good reason for "why" when you're standing in judgement in the end.
Just a sad situation.
However, his effort was completely negated by the quote in the print edition of the HERALD-GAZETTE from our illustrious "brought back" sheriff Larry Waller.
"We will never close that case"
Well now, isn't that nice. Nothing like a positive outlook. Seems like another case, the BuggyTown bomber, has gone unsolved as well. I remember stepping out of the motel shower in Winfield Alabama to see the astonishing sight of Waller on CNN proclaiming he would stop at nothing to find the culprit of that crime.
Do I dare suppose we will never close that case either? Somehow I think so.
Tell me again what a great idea it was to "bring back" this clown?
Why not do something better and complain about having to put an extra quarter in the paper box to get the print edition?
You are the clown. Only an idiot like you would want JB back in office. He may have tried to arrest a lot of people, but look how many cases were thrown out because he didnt know crap about the law. He didnt solve the Donna Johnson case either. Isnt that obvious to you? Isnt it obvious the case will be open until it is solved?
You cant trample over peoples rights just because you think the title of Sheriff gives you that right. Give it a rest please or come up with something besides the bombs!
so, I lied." With God as my witness, these were his exact words. If you recall, there were times on the previous blog when he entered other peoples residence and searched it without a search warrant, according to their blog, he told them, he did not need a search warrant, he was the "damn sherrif." I have often wondered why he had to have a sheriff's car following him when he went to run. Did we pay for this service? He also had his body guard at the forum who eased down the side of the room when Joe stood up to speak. What is he afraid of?
Lastly, under Joe's watch, there is a considerable amount of money that is missing or unaccounted for. I don't know who took it, but anyone can confirm that it is missing. I don't think our county can afford another reign of Buice maffia.
Please don't be mad
-- I just think a lot of things have never been printed or investigated that happened during his term.
Anyway, I can assure that no one has forgotten all of the BS and drama. Piss poor management, zero people skills and definite lack of knowledge regarding the law does not qualify one to be Sheriff.
Im not going to reply to any more of your post about the sheriff. The blog is for Donna Johnson, not a campaign ad for JB.
This is the type of coverage I like to see in a newspaper.
At the very least, this is a lesson in sensitivity toward a family's pain and frustration when a case cannot be brought forward due to circumstances beyond the family's and perhaps law enforcement's control as well.
Anonymous #11, you picked out one sentence of Sheriff Waller's and used it to further whatever your agenda might be. Transparent.
I really hope that this crime gets solved, along with the disappearance of Helen Ann Morgan.
Was he thoroughly eliminated as a suspect? Did he have a solid alibi?
Your boy JB didn't care about minor technicalities like that, though.
Matlock would be envious of your sleuth skills.
The DA obviously got tired of wasting their time on such poorly constructed, baseless cases that were being presented during that timeframe.
Perhaps some good will come out of this.

A few more facts for the record. I personally DO NOT think Jimmy Johnson murdered his wife, Donna. You may notice that I always say him/them when I refer to the murderer. I will continue to post "what I personally remember and quotes that I personally trust...with the published source as a reference." I hope the SOB(S) that murdered Donna Johnson are processed just as I have reflected in my blogs here and on the Pike County Journal Reporter site. This should clear the presumed guilty and expedite prosecution of the guilty person(s). Feel free to continue conversing with and about me. To answer that "most often asked question" NO, Walter does not post all my blogs, if so many people would hate me even more and I probably would have to take Sheriff Larry Waller off my list of people that I have never met.
What exactly do you do all day, besides search for quips and comebacks and post online?
Yea, it must be someone who works for this paper because i have tried to post twice some information I heard about Donna long time ago, in the b'ville AND zebulon sites, and I haven't seen them yet.
It is always great to have someone to blame for your own inadequacies.
No one should die in this way and have the criminals get away with it.
