Oddly, the author of this opinion is not listed. I wonder why.
I am baffled that he or she chooses to invoke "supply and demand" since I do not see what that has to do with illegal immigration; perhaps the writer means to appeal to the audience by mumbling a Republican incantation over readers. Besides, I'll bet that many Republican business people are delighted to hire illegal immigrants even while saying publically they want those folks gone.
The argument in this column is just a variation of the "illegal immigrants take jobs from Americans" rant. The University System of Georgia has enough open-access institutions that pretty much anyone with sufficient determination can gain admittance. I am shocked, however, to read that conservative Georgians want affirmative action in the University System. Frankly, I think the system works better on merit. But as I wrote, there's plenty of room for Georgians too.
Georgians have to deal with the complex reality of illegal immigration, and it is not helpful to demagogue the issue this way. The more we educate everyone, the more prosperous we'll be.
I agree with most of your argument with the exception that college enrollment is at record levels. I wonder how many will not get what they need because not enough teachers or the classes have already been filled. I do agree though, this has nothing to do with a few going to college from south of the border.
There’s nothing "complex" about illegal immigration. The problem is when people try and act like it's O.K. and encourage the public at large to accept it.
And the way to "deal" with it is to force our elected officials in Washington to earmark enough money to deport these criminals.
You should look at history and you will see that it was Democratic presidents that had the courage to do this on two separate occasions in order to put legal Americans back to work. Now is the time for our president to show the same courage and throw out about 12 million free loaders! We as Americans should hunt these people down and force ICE to do their job and send these people back across the border.
The only thing that Chancellor Davis gets is that he wants to keep his job so he caved to liberal pressure from outside of the state.
Oddly enough, universities are diligently trying to identify all applicants who are not US citizens. A non-US citizen must pay a much higher tuition and are required to prove they have the secure financial resources to do so. This is just a bunch of hype from the GOP.

Chancellor Davis definitely gets it.

Author of this editorial lost all creditability with that statement.
