Former Barnesville municipal judge Henry Abreu is free on bond but under house arrest following his latest brush with the law.

A couple of questions to clarify things for me - a new citizen to Barnesville.

1) Was he audio taped or video taped?
2) Why were the tapes not made public?
3) Why is immigration involved?

I agree, immigration? Is that not going a bit far, he has been here since he was a child.

Only 1 week on the job and the 'Good Ole Waller Boy' system is back again. Were it any other person in this situation they would have been jailed without even consideration of bail. What kind of message does this send? A convicted sex offender commits another sex related offense and he is released on $2000 bond and house arrest. Wait until the Atlanta media get a load of this. Barnesville will be famous again.

immigration is called on the average jose everyday. why is it so important in this case? he has violated probation repeatedly and should pay the price that you or i would pay. waller has not been in office a full month and the good ol' boy system is in full swing.

How is it possible that this man has been released on a $2k bond. He's a convicted sex offender and is on probation already for DUI. Yet again, he gets a slap on the wrist.

I concur with everyone about the "Good Old Boy" system that is in place.

Waller did not sit the bail. If anyone is part of the "good ol'boy system" it's judge Thomas. Thomas is the one who sit the bail and our city manager posted the bail. What does this have to do with our sheriff?

While some of you are so anxious to attack Waller, maybe you should check out some facts. I would have thought the editor would have known this. There are bondable offenses. If you are charged with one of these. you are allowed to make bond. This bond is set by the judge, in this case the magistrate judge. NOT THE SHERIFF. Like it or not we are governed by laws. So, you good ole boys who are after Waller, go back and check the records. Would it be asking too much to be informed and fair?

From reading the story, it appears the sheriff was given ample opportunity to explain his actions but refused to do so. That makes one wonder.

From reading the story it appears the Sheriff was unable to return the editor’s phone call before print time. Besides, the sheriff isn't the one who should explain anything. He had NOTHING to do with HA getting out on bail. If you want to blame someone then go talk to the magistrate judge. I am very disappointed to see HA out, but the Sheriff had no more to do with this than you or I. The bottom line is none of you have any real concerns about HA being out, you are just looking for a reason to attack your Sheriff.

I believe you maybe on to something! Has anyone thought about how his Bail Signing "Fishing Buddy" is always there to set him free. Could there be a connection, Hmmm smells fishy to me!

I don't think it is the fishing buddies that are the worry. Follow the money and land deals.

He came to my house and offered cash for land, and offered to write the transaction amount down as a different amount so I would not have to pay capital gains taxes. The difference between the written amount and total actually paid would be in "cash'. I don't do money laundering or tax evasion deals so I passed on the offer, and reported it to a Federal Judge.

My guess would be to follow the land deals, not the fishing.

Please withold my name and e-mail, but I stand behind this statement and would be happy to testify to this, with witnesses, in court.

By the way, nice web site Scoop! It looks great.

News flash "Andy", WALLER DID NOT GRANT BAIL FOR HA.The sheriff does not have that authority.

THE SHERIFF CAN STOP THEM FROM SETTING BAIL, BUT HE HAS TO BE THERE AND KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN HIS JAIL. THE LAST SHERIFF WOULD NEVER HAVE ALLOWED THIS HABITUAL SEXUAL VIOLATOR OUT.

I heard Henry has the goods on several other people. Of course that is just a rumor so far but he has been in several big real estate deals with interested parties that we all know of. I wonder what the truth is when I see the same old people commiting crime after crime and getting away with it. I suppose the truth will come out over the next several years.

HA has never been convicted of any offense that even remotely justifies calling him a "convicted sex offender."
That is hogwash. That is slander or libel per se.
Also, HA is a US citizen, so ICE never should have been mentioned much less involved. Sounds like someone does not like HA's Hispanic/Cuban ethnicity.
Finally, the bond is set by the judge not the sheriff, and the amount here is typical.
Have you guys ever heard of the old-fashioned notion of presumption of innocence with the burden of proof on the government?

Why was the bond so low? Is someone afraid that someone will be unable to make bond for his cohart.
