Burning books historically has had one and only one effect, and that is to promote ignorance.

Terry Jones, a preacher in Gainesville, Fla., plans to do that on Saturday — the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks — with copies of the Quran, the Islamic holy book.

I dont agree with this approach. I feel all you are doing is getting down on the same playing field as your adversary, and making yourself look like the villian.
This was done in WWII and at other times, each time making the Book burner the more the villian, in my opinion.

This preacher is an ignorant irrational fool. He is inciting violence to the maximum level and not considering the repercussions for armed men and women overseas. If I were a parent of one of those service people I would be contacting my local representative and pushing for this idiot to be arrested!!!!! This is the type of irrational stupid acts that WILL take us to WW3!!!!!

Burning books isn't a good idea, but if Islam really is a "religion of peace" as our government has said, why is this putting troops in danger? If someone was burning 50 bibles, would it incite Christians to violence? This is a religious war, and if this pastor is making the point that Islam is NOT a religion of peace, he is making a strong case - even though he looks like an idiot in the process

The Quran for Muslims means so much. It will never be tolerated to offend God, Quran or any Prophet.

You will never see a Muslim burning the bible or the Torah no matter what anyone pushes them because we consider it holy like the Quran.

Islam is a religion of Peace, but such actions will never be tolerated.

I guess the question is "how far does tolerance go?" I can understand "not tolerating" someone desecrating something so holy - BUT - this is America in which freedom of speech gives people the "right" to voice their religious opposition.

Someone wise once said - "I may not agree with your opinion, but I stand by your right to voice it." This is why we do not outlaw groups such as the KKK - it is not "illegal" or even "child abuse" for a family to raise their child as a hateful racist. We may not like it, but in America, you are free to express your viewpoint, even IF we don't like it. I don't want to live in a Country in which only "certain" viewpoints are tolerated, but people are arrested (or heaven forbid killed) for expressing other view points.

It's a book. It's a guide to study by just like the bible. Mark in it, Highlight in it...whatever you want...it's just a book. You can't find the answers by keeping the bible or whatever book on a coffee table in the wrapper....get a grip...this guy is a moron and the bible and quran are just books.

Terry Jones, has just as much right to burn copies of the Quran as Feisal Abdul Rauf has to build his mosque near the Ground Zero site.

They are both idiots but they both have the right to do what they are doing. Both are causing undo stress by their actions and both need to stop and think about what they are doing.

Ol' Rev. Terry Jones might want to turn around and take in an extended view of his 'house of worship' for possibly the last time. If Rev. Jones sets the Islamic Holy Book aflame, it would not surprise me if some militants vaporized the Dove World Outreach Center. I didn't like it when the american flag was being burned, but it is what it is, freedom of speech. I didn't like it when Bibles were being burned by our troops in Afghanistan in May of 2009 instead of being shipped back to the u.s., because it was going to cause an uproar with the muslims. Muslims in Pakistan of December of 2009 desecrated a christian church and set the Bible on fire and left a note stating they needed to convert to Islam. I don't like the idea of a mosque being built close to ground zero after I did research and realized that Muslims have always built mosques when they have conquered and shed blood for their cause. I now understand why it is being built. It is a slap in the face to the american people and families that lost loved ones on 9/11. It seems like to me you can just about burn and do whatever you want, as long as it does not offend Islam. We have a president going around apologizing for the U.S. How much more of this can Americans take. I am sure our forefathers that founded this country or rolling in their graves.

I noticed on the news last night. That muslims are wanting to reserve the fox on the day of 9/11 and fox said no. Now they are being sued for discrimination. Muslims all over the united states are reserving places on 9/11. Do you think it could be they are celebrating the victory over killing the americans in the name of allah at ground zero on american soil? Of course, we all know the koran states that if you are not muslim you are an infidel and all infidels need to die. And what about the mosque they are so determined to build near ground zero. Now the spokesman for the mosque is saying if they are not allowed to build , it could put americans lives in danger, because it would enflame the muslims. Do you think maybe the mosque at ground zero will be the place of celebration for muslims all over the world and they will travel from all over to celebrate their biggest victory of all. And that will be 9/11. And they will do it on 9/11 right at the spot where innocent americans were killed on american soil.

Let's do a quick analysis of some factual events and compare reactions to those situations by Americans and Muslims. Muslims, this very peaceful religion they say, has burned thousands of innocent lives to death when they flew airplanes into buildings in the name of Allah. The Muslims burned 4 American soldiers after they had already hung them from a bridge in Iraq. The Muslims burn American flags and effigies of our presidents it seems everytime a camera is pointed in a crowd of them. A street filled with Muslims cheered and praised their god with shouts during each of these actual, and factual events. Americans did nothing but watched with disgust. One attention seeking preacher from America decides to burn some Korans. Americans come out and say in full and say it is not a good idea and we wish you wouldn't do it because it does not build good will. The Muslims, such a peaceful and tolerant religion, start telling everyone that if this one dude burns the book, they are going to start randomly blowing up innocent people. WAKE UP. Do not be dooped into believing that the Muslim religion is one of peace and tolerance. All they are trying to do is make us shape our world to theirs, slowly and step by step, and with our present leadership in Washington DC it is happening very fast.

Are you so fighting mad that all you can think about is getting back at them for what they did nine years ago? If it is, burning the Koran should NOT endanger the lives of our military - if Islam is NOT a religion of peace, then let's admit it, and acknowledge burning their holy book is going to incite them to violence...but burning a book should NOT incite a "peaceful" religion to war.

Also - yes, we can admit MANY bad things have happened IN THE PAST in the name of Christianity. But eventually Christianity modernized - and Christians no longer hang witches, force people to convert, etc. But if bibles were burned, it would NOT put people in danger...

All I am saying is that it is time for Islam to modernize - stop oppressing women, stop promoting violence, and THEN I will consider it the "religion of peace." Until then, I really hope this pastor does NOT burn the Koran because it will indeed put our troops in harms way...

Sure I'm pissed off and tired of our Guvment kissing the rest of the world's ---. And YES I am pissed off because our Guvment keeps apologizing to the people who have waged a Holy War with us. There was a story on the news about the concern that if this preacher burns the Quran, the muslims would retaliate. If the media was so concerned about our troops, why do they keep running the story? Radical Christians have committed crimes such as this (perhaps not as recent)...so what do we say about 9/11 "we will never forget".
This is not a religious war (yet)..The world trade center and pentagon were not religious targets. Terrorists did not attack Christian churches or the Vatican. Muslims overseas are not burning pictures of Jesus or the cross..they are burning American flags.

So - in order for it to be a religious war, the targets need to be religion? That seems very narrowminded. What if the religious war was "against" non-believers? Those who did not practice islam? If we (the United States) is considered THE GREAT SATAN - then indeed this is about religion. If an islamic church got together to burn 200 copies of bibles, and they had the exact same media coverage as this koran burning, what would happen? Nothing. Americans now are spineless. attack Christian churches worldwide,

Scream "Death to America", anytime a video camera is nearby, etc., etc...

But at the mere mention of burning their Holy Book,
they come boiling out in the streets.

American patience is wearing very thin.
Restitution is gonna be a be-ach.
Our politicians need to quit cowering to these animals.

Muslims don't have a clue what's about to happen.
The PC Gloves are starting to come OFF - in a big way.
Is the sleeping giant finally being awakened?

I have found when the public is fed volatile issues like this it is usually a distraction from some other very important issue we should all be paying close attention to.

So far as I'm concerned they can burn all the bibles they want, and we can burn all the Korans we want. The bible is just some big old fairy tale that contradicts itself at every turn anyway, just like that Koran. Neither one is worth the paper they are printed on. Just keep sending me that oil! That's what matters.
