The Deal is done -- pun intended... Deal is in debt to the tune of $5 million dollars. I hate that for him, because I'm not a fan of Roy Barnes. Barnes, imo, is an arrogant, condescending jerk -- see the profile of most lawyers for validation. He 'figuratively-screwed' the educators, when he was in office the last time. And, he's making all of these big promises that he can't keep, just to get re-elected. Sad, but I believe that huge debt of Deal's will be his waterloo.
Deal is NOT "done", just because the news media says so. The same media that said barnes was a shoo-in for re-election (which he didn't get)
A vast majority of people are "in debt" and are struggling financially lately. How can you hold that against him? I see it as a positive, he knows how the rest of us feel. I sympathize with him, and admire his courage in trying to help his family.
Also, I can't believe people would actually consider barnes after what he did so arrogantly against the will of the people. If y'all vote him back in, you will get what you deserve. That goes for the teachers union backing him as well, thats hilarious.
Face it, there are no good candidates for governor in this election. Like it was previously stated, Barnes is the typical condescending lawyer with an entitlement mindset. He's a jerk!!!
If you don't think that the $5 million dollar debt hanging over Nathan Deal's head is a distraction, then I'm not sure what to think of your assessment of what Georgia needs as their next governor. I mean the guy stands to lose everything that he's got, so how can he focus on being governor with all of the personal baggage.
I would vote for him, however, as a vote against Barnes. It's just a sad state of affairs to think that our next governor, regardless of which one is elected, will be one of those two.
Your statement... "A vast majority of people are "in debt" and are struggling financially lately. How can you hold that against him? I see it as a positive, he knows how the rest of us feel. I sympathize with him, and admire his courage in trying to help his family."
I can only agree with the portion of that statement that doesn't take into account the $5 million dollar debt, which ain't chicken feed.
If it was just several thousand dollars, then you would have a valid point. But, $5 Mill. -- give me a break.
Seeing the sorry state of education results and the ridululous salaries of some of them, it is we the people who have been screwed, not the educators. Hopefully Barnes in the Govenor's Mansion would send them a much needed message.
I think we have had a good Governor with Sonny Perdue.
He has shown leadership, that we failed to have before.
I hope the next Governor can fill his footsteps.
What exactly has he done, other than give himself and only himself tax cuts. Oh yeah and not fund education the way the state constitution says it should be. Oh yeah and then paying a law firm from New York Millions of tax dollars a year to keep local school systems from suing him over the laws he is breaking.
A Christian movie and prayer service a couple weeks ago. Now a "community prayer gathering" with the gubner. Didn't know SPLOST dollars could be used to build a church!
Anyone can rent the building. How about a "cry and moan at anything that rpresents progress in our community" club meeting? From the looks of this website, it would be standing room only!
i bet Deal will not be in debt when he leave the govenors office....i will bet that he will have more money in the bank than his govenor's salary over the eight years ......
I hope you dont vote. You cant even type right. Im sure you type " how youz beez talkin". Youz soundz ignorantz boss. Keep all dat doo doo on dat side of the cracks and on mill skreet. Freaking idiot.
When did this become a political article. It says "The Governor is coming here for Prayer" If you attended this event there were ZERO political format. It was just a political figure sharing in prayer with the community. He isnt running again and never backed anyone or event mentioned either person running for his office.
And you need to look a little closer at who sponsored this event, it was sponsored by the ministerial association, not the school, not any political party, just people who care about this community coming together for prayer. Whats the harm in that?
When a political figure goes out of his way to pray in public it's a political event. How I wish that we could separate religion from politics but it just is not going to happen in the south.
"Seperation of Church and State" is not even in the constitution, so religion and politics CAN legally mix. That's just a phrase that many love to quote, and most don't even know the origin of the statement.
I challenge you to show me where in the U.S. Constitution is it mentioned that "there shall be a seperation of church and state." It's NOT there. Thomas Jefferson responded to a letter from the Danbury, Connecticut Baptist Association asking why he had not set a day of thanksgiving as had been done by Washington and Adams. In his response Jefferson wrote that "there shall be a seperation of church and state." That's where it came from. It's not in the Constitution. If you tell a lie enough times, you begin to believe it.
You are correct, but it does not say that "there shall be a seperation of church and state." Big difference! England had established the Episcopalian Church as the state church of England. The forefathers did not want something sililiar to happen in the new colonies.
