Gov. Sonny Perdue will be in Barnesville October 2 for a prayer breakfast. No local issue deserves more prayerful consideration than the Donna Ogletree Johnson murder case.
Donna's sister Becky Peterman has written Perdue directly to no avail. Thus far she has also been ignored by Sen. Saxby Chambliss, Sen. Ronnie Chance and state representatives Jim Cole, Billy Maddox, David Knight and Tony Sellier.
Sen. Johnny Isakson took time out to send a form letter. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland is the only elected official at any level to have taken any action whatsoever or even respond to correspondence.
Remember those who are complacent at election time.
Yep, I brought up politics. Don't re-elect those who will not acknowledge you or the issues you face!
Make sure you tell people of your personal experiences with your elected officials and exercise your right to vote.
If you do not think politics can be crooked for years, you need to read up on the recent Judges who suddenly STEPPED down and promised never to seek office again, so they could spend time with their Grandchildren. How lame. All that have not responded to Becky are just as sorry.
Tell them how they are doing. i did
If you get a big enough group to attend Oct. 2, maybe asking everyone to wear the same color would improve the effect. (i know it sounds dumb, but it works)
Citizens demanding their government to act, to behave, to represent them are not hooligans...they are patriots.
I for one am pretty much sick of the past administration calling folks anti-American for not agreeing with them and now this one calling us terroists and racists for not agreeing.
Joe Citizen speaking out is not only his right, it is his duty
Go ahead and embarrass yourselves, I know it's uncontrollable for some people.
As for Saxby Chambliss, I find it VERY hard to believe that he did not respond. He certainly responded to 3 letters I have sent to him in the past, in a VERY timely and personal manner.
If anyone wants results from a politician, send a letter to the President. He won't respond, Bush didn't went I wrote him, but the letters are forwarded to a department that CAN help, and WILL help in whatever way they are legally able to (at least that's what I have seen in past letters I have written). Not federal workers can do much about a STATE issue, but if the FBI has jurisdiction (which I do not see how they could have jurisdiction to be honest) then they may even forward the letter to the FBI, or maybe even to the GBI. I have found that when others in high government positions send a letter to those who choose to ignore, they DO NOT ignore any longer.
I bet they would rather lose your vote than get all your correspondence. You sound like one of those pesky people.
Becky says Saxby Chambliss did not reply, I am not calling her a liar, I am just saying I find that very difficult to believe based on my own past experience. Especially when he has not only always responded to my letters, but he's also responded in the time-frame that he is required to, by law. Yes, even politicians have laws they must abide by, especially when it comes to addressing constituent concerns. Rather it's a secretaty sending a form letter with a stamped signature, or an actual ink signature, many do respond. Maybe not Perdue (yeah Perdue likes to ignore people), but Saxby Chambliss, yeah, he has always responded to my inquiries.
To answer your question, no...I do not mind that you are so intelligent. I know little about a bunch of things but a lot about nothing. I love it that way.
Sip some expensive wine and chill out.
Admit it, the real reason you sign "Sheila Tolley" is for attention.
I don't care for personal recognition or pats on the back, because it's not about me.
The sad thing is now this story has been run into the ground. People who supported this at first are now like- tell that Tolley woman and all her cronies to shut up. Perhaps Becky should disassociate herself with these people if she wants the support of people who could possibly help. The squeaky wheel doesn't always get the oil. Sometimes it gets pushed off the road.
Nothing good can possibly come out of you people continually dragging this through the mud over and over and over.
If this was your family member you'd probably do anything you had to (act like a hooligan) if you had to to get some justice.
The person that thinks talking with the Governor of Georgia would not be beneficial to the case is an idiot.
Praying for Perdue to do the right thing and meet with the family.
Barnesville/Lamar has serious issues more suited to state level attention that should be brought to the Governor's attention.
The job situation here is dire. Unless serious efforts to bring stable employment to this immediate area are seriously undertaken, there will be little reason to continue living here.
Upson and Spaulding counties are making progress in this area. Lamar should be tapping every available resource in a similar effort to attract non textile employment.
That is something that should be brought to the Governor's attention.
Please, show some class, if you are able.
Just remember this when anyone wants to "bring back" anyone else next election.
Second - Governor Perdue has gotten multiple emails from LOTS of folks requesting him meet with Becky. No reply from any of them from the Governor.
Absolutely ridiculous and corrupt judicial system!
It is still possible to maintain dignity and class, while getting things done.
People who lower themselves to protesting, hell raising and hollering you can muster up are not taken seriously by upstanding people.
Usually they are in it for the attention.
I bet you won't do it.
As a citizen, I am appaled at YOU people for promoting "hooligan" activities and insinuating you will ruin the Governors rare trip here during his prayer breakfast. To think that y'all expect unconditional support from everyone, when you talk on here like you have been about our elected officials and everyone and everything else is ridiculous.
This is not directed at any one specific person, but to those who are obviously blinded by unrestrained emotion and can't obviously think or act right.
I'm truly sorry that that happened to that poor girl, but this whole ordeal has gotten ridiculous. Life must go on.
When the elected officals do not answer 'non-hooligan" requests, maybe the only other option is to act like our forefathers intended and encouraged.
