Despite a week off to prepare, the Lamar County Trojans came out flat Friday night and dropped a key region game to the Greene County Tigers 17-14.

The loss severely damaged the team's hopes of hosting a playoff game. Now, the Trojans put those hopes on the line next Friday in Monticello against a suddenly hot Hurricane team that blew out Crawford County Friday.

Lamar also blew its chance to improve upon last year's regular season record and lost the week after its open date for the second consecutive time.

You will loose next week and not make the playoffs. Your not that good, Pike would have rolled all over you if not for a key injury. Face reality!

I believe Lamar is in the playoffs win or lose next week. There is a scenario where Pike, Greene , and Northeast could all finish 4-4 in the region and tie for the 4th seed. Pike beat Greene, Greene beat Northeast, and Northeast beat Pike. What is the second tiebreaker? Next week, Pike vs SW, Greene vs Morgan, and NE vs Crawford.

Cry me a river! Pike needs to get over it already. The only reason why that game was close is because we gave yall a 14 point lead in 2 minutes. We wanted a close game so Pike fans would stay at the stadium and spend money.

Tonight should show Trojan fans how important our support is. The 1st 3 qters of this game our stands fell silent as we watched our boys struggle. But in the 4th qter when we were flagged and our band was silenced we rallied together and showed that no one can quiet our Thunder! The excitement and support the fans showed our Trojans gave them the strength to push forward. Can you imagine what our games would be like if our Thunder was that loud every Friday night? Our boys need our support not matter what the scoreboard shows. Together no one can take our Trojan Pride.

What world do you live on? Lamar County Comprehensive High School's football team was defeated by a better team. Why is it so hard for you to say that? Put your Pom Poms away, give the team credit when they do good but do not make them out to be something that they are not. They are NOT a championship caliber team, no matter how much your imagination thinks they are.

I agree 100%!! I could not believe that they hushed the band, they band is the spirit of a football game & gets the crowd going!!! Well, they didn't hush the fans....the fans should have been that loud the entire game!! I am proud to be from Lamar County & proud of each & every child in Lamar Co, hats off to the ones that plays a sports.....GO BIG BLUE no matter what sport it is!!!

Golll-eee, Alice. Get a clue, honey. The band was interfering with the other team's Quarterback's ability to call a play at the line of scrimmage due to the noise from the band. Ya, know honey, the rest of the team has to be able to get on the same page as the QB. That's a penalty that can be levied against the home crowd in any stadium at any football game. Clueless in Barnesville, ya' think.

Yeah I agree. If only our d would have played that pumped up and inspired the whole game.

And wtf is up with our band?????? They get a warning for playing in front of the opponent's offense and then they go and do the exact same thing again!! C'MON MAN!

Please tell me exactly when the band was warned. All I saw was the penalty without warning. You just have a sorry attitude because of the teams poor showing. The penalty hurt but had NO bearing on outcome. That game was lost by poor passing and offense. If Mrs. Green had receives a warning I Ann sure she would have not let them continue.

There was a warning. They stopped play and told the band to stop playing and then on Greene's next drive they started playing while Greene's O was in the exact same area and we got the flag. They probably only did this because Greene's band was a no-show.

Last nights game was a lose but the one thing that bothers me is that our high school band was playing to rally the football team and they were told on several occasions to quit playing.....in my opinion this was rude of those who told them this....our band practices really hard during the week to get ready for these games and they were showing support for our players.....more than i can say for those who were sitting in the stands

Well first of all we didn't not play friday at all our defense was struggling and offense struggled!! I mean and it's stupid that the band don't understand english u cannot play when the other team got the ball duh!!!! I mean he gave yal a warning wat more does it takes!! But we played the last quarter which it was a lil too late but we will do better next week and finish our season 7-3 hopefully!! Pike get over it we beat yal fair and square and if yal so good yal should have proved it no matter who gets hurt!!! Suck it up and when yal ready to cross potato creek again we will be waiting!!!!!!!!

The band was told to stop playing by the officials and when they didn't the team was flagged for 15 yards. So yes after that the fans did continue to tell the band not to play so that we didn't lose another 15 yards! But just because they couldn't play didn't mean they couldn't cheer on their school. I enjoy the band at the games. And was very upset that they were silenced. But I didn't want to see the team pushed back over stupid flags either.

The time and date of your post is 10:02 a.m., on 11/01/10. Shouldn't you be in school? And if you are in school, are you using school computers to look at football news and then taking the time to reply?

Nobody saying the Band made the football team loose the team lost fair and square it was good match good game!! All we are sayin is that the official told yal not to play while the other team got the ball it's obvious!! Then yal starte playing again when they had the ball point blank you can't play when the opponents got the ball thats all i'm sayin!! But we learn from our mistakes!!

I hesitate to make this reply. I understand that I am replying to a child. However, if you are in the color gaurd you are AT LEAST in the ninth grade, your grammar and your sentence structure should reflect that. With all due respect to a child let's look at the post.

To start with, let's talk about the use of capital letters. I am sure at some point in your Lamar County education this lesson was taught. Perhaps you were absent that day, let's move on.

There are plenty of commas that you elected to leave out too. Maybe instead of bashing on a high schooler, you should just stick to trying to make yourself feel better in other ways.

NO the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the band did not cost the Trojans the game but could have hurt us really bad as it was called when we had them backed up. Fortunately Greene County ended up having to punt on that series but if they had gone on to score it would have been really bad.

The band was, indeed, asked not to play when Greene County was on offense in front of them the series before. Greene County complained they could not hear the play being called and the snap count so the officials asked Lamar's coaches to silence the band. The PA announcer made an announcement asking the band to please stop playing. And they complied.

But a series later, they played again with Greene County on offense in front of them and the Trojans were penalized for it.

It's a crazy rule, I agree, but it's a rule nonetheless.

I enjoy our band as much as anyone and appreciate the hard work they put in and the spirit they show but the director needs to be made aware of the rules of the game. I'm sure she probably does know now.

The sad thing is, it took silencing the band and getting a penalty to get the crowd to get loud and proud. That should be something that happens from the beginning of the game.

Best entry on the whole band penalty issue.

I've noticed the she has the band much more "in tune" to the game with playing fight song after TDs, playing more quietly at times, playing drums for kick-offs, etc.

Well Mrs. Green was unaware, but the officials, coaches, && spectators will NOT continue to disrespect her, the band, and the colorguards. There is always a way to handle everything, and the rude, sarcastic, commments made toward Ms. Green and the banad during the 4th quarter of that game was very disrespectful and unprofessional. Also, the people who wasn't included, should stay excluded, and stop making comments about a story you don't know 100% of. NO LONGER ENTERTAINING THIS FOOLISHNESS. Deuces:-))

The band did cost the football team about 2 mins of game time. It was 3rd and 7 when the band got a penalty giving Green County a first down. They ran 3 more plays and 2 mins off the clock before punting. As you can see the game came down to the last min. It sure would have been nice to have those 2 extra mins. The band was clearly warned by the refs who stoped the game,coaches, players, people in the stands hollowerng, and the announcer making an announcement over the PA. Surely at least someone in the band got the message because they stopped. But yet did it again next possession.

stadium is about a block behind the jasper county courthouse right off the square in downtown monticello.

at least that is where it was the last time we played there.

It is very sad that some of the subscribers and readers of this site say the things they say. It was NOT the bands fault or anyone else's fault but the boy's playing the game. Yes the band might have cause a penalty, but they are not to blame. If the other team's band was not there what was that a big problem for them to play? Apparently, it was a miscommunication between the Coaches and the Band Director.
