Marci Beth Vining was named Lamar County’s 2012 Teacher of the Year at the Dec. 14 Lamar County board of education meeting.

Congratulations to Marci, teachers don't get the recognition they deserve, and so it is heart warming when you read stories of these wonderful people being rewarded for their unstinting dedication to nuturing the young.

I have to say, she is jaw droppingly beautiful to...a truly admirable person!

Don't you think it would make more sense to reward a teacher for their past year accomplishments, or at least the current year ? I am sure anyone who receives this award will go on to do well, but I think this places a lot of pressure on the teacher to live up to the billing.

Evening gown competition is 20%, followed by swimsuit strut at 20%, interview questioning is 10%, and the remainder is talent-50%. I hear that Marci twirled a baton and played a harmonica at the same time- such talent!

I think all the teachers vote, and then the winning teacher from each school has to provide documentation to a committee who makes the decision on the county teacher of the year.
