I just love how colleges are teaching kids now that if there is bad weather, don't worry about leaving your home. Don't worry about going to work. The public schools I understand, those kids don't need to be out in this type of weather. However, college is different. What are we telling college kids now? It's probably why so many people didn't make and effort to go to work today, but instead stayed home because of a little ice on the roads. I hate to see when this generation is the working class and are responsible adults. Let a little snow fall and they decide work isn't worth it for the day.
You must not have a job? You know what I did? Got up about 2 hours earlier. Took the 15 minutes of defrosting my car. Drove for 2 1/2 hours to Atlanta to work, when it normally takes about 45 minutes. I finished my job that I do to support my family. Then drove the 3 1/2 hours back home.
Don't take that as complaining, I love every minute of it.
My point is, it would have been real simple to call and say "I can't come to work, there's ice on the roads." But, I was raised better than that. I have a responsibility to my organization.
You say "Cars and trucks need to stay out of the way and let DOT do their job." Well if cars and trucks aren't on the road, then what are DOT there for? They are there for the responsible adults so they can get to work and support their families.
All I'm saying is canceling classes because a little bit of ice is on the road is a bad way to start the careers of these students. The continuing "Wussification of America"
You should not be congratulated on your trek to work yesterday. It is idiots like you who cause problems on the iced roads. What part of STAY OFF THE ROADS did you not understand?? Instead of patting yourself on the back, you should examine why you would endanger yourself and others just to go to work in ATLANTA- are you serious?????
The public schools here and the college are less then five minutes away from each other so you understand why they can't go why can't you understand why college kids can't? Public schools included kids about to graduate so I guess we are teaching them bad habits too..But lots of jobs closed yesterday too. So its not just colleges saying stay off the roads, it's everyone!
So college students who have children in public schools are supposed to do what with their children? Bring them to classes with them? How about we get someone to watch our children while we go out on the iced over roads and get ourselves killed because the south isn't prepared to handle these types of conditions in the appropriate manner? A great deal of my childs safety depends on my own safety considering I am a widow and I am all my child has to depend on now. No one should be out in these conditions unless their job is critical to helping those who have been impacted by the current weather conditions or are trying to make the roads safe for travel. How would you like it if you lost a college aged son or daughter because you think there is no difference in "bad weather" and undrivable conditions on the road due to the unpreparedness of the south to handle such winter storms the way northern states can? I will not go out on unprepared roads and take the chance of losing my life or any one elses. Work isn't worth losing life any day.

Maybe you need really think about the comment you made. Cars and trucks need to stay out of the way and let DOT do their job.
