Three men charged with the home invasion murder of Danavan Bussey December 5 during a Westchester Heights home invasion were denied bond in Lamar superior court Thursday.

This is a sad story for all parties involved here. You have a teenager that was in college that was murdered in cold blood and we got 3 men that aren't even adults yet thats are facing the death penalty, one of which did not pull a trigger but was an accomplis to the matter. Either way bond should be denied but at the same time the parents of these 3 men boys should be facing charges to.
Why should the parsnts be facing charges? Sure, its apparent they didn't raise them right growing up, but these "boys" are adults. Parents aren't responrfor them.
Their parents are responsible because had they taken a more acting role in these young mens lives then this could have possibly have been prevented. An innocent life was taken due to a lack of responsibility on several peoples accounts. I would be willing to bet anything that these boys parents wonder everyday if therre was anything they could have done to have prevented this.
An obvious liberal. It is always someone elses fault.
Tell me; whos fault is it that created the way you think?

I have served in the military for 4 years and have been a police officer in the military for all of my term. I have my way of thinking because I have seen these cases over and over and 90% of the time it goes back to the parents not wanting to step up and take control over their kids.
Of course: Your reference to MP would be involvement with young parents dealing with a totally different lifestyle and young children. These kids on the other hand are basically grown. As kids age they rebel; even in the military. The only involvement you would have would be in cases involving the post or military housing. In the military their solution is easy. Either parents control their kids or they are banned from the post and the family kicked out of military housing. Military police problem solved – family crisis continues. Don’t blow smoke. Many people know the system for a lot more years than you have been exposed to it.
Palin is right regarding monsters. These boys are responsible for their own actions and society needs to hold them accountable for their actions rather than make excuses for them.
Unless you have actually been an MP and you have served you have no idea how the system works. MP's deal with alot more than just on base housing and military bases. MP's are federally mandated police officers. And as far as working with young parents dealing with young children once again you are wrong military installations like Ft. Benning or Ft. Gordon are bigger than Lamar county itself. We deal with people from all walks off life whether its old, young, white, black or purple. Age has nothing to do with being an MP. We all have differant expieriences but one thing stays the same.We were all trained the same way.
I know how the system works = 30 years experience. MP's are federally mandated police officers. (with limited jurisdiction). You are just trying to be "the Duke" or something
And what expierience might that. I never claimed that our jurisdiction exceeded the walls of a military installation but as far as the actual law goes state laws fall on us to as far as enforceing it.
you're military experience has nothing to do this andrew. you think you're a big hot shot and know everything just because you wear a uniform (when you're not on probation). these guys may not have grown up in best household, but they each have a mind of their own. they all decided to go and do that. you should stick to what you know how to do and leave everyone else alone.
First off its pretty obvious you don't know anything about me. I'm not the one cowarding behind a fake name on here. And heres a newsflash for you who ever the hell you are. I'm not on probation and when I was a couple of months ago it was for a speeding ticket. So why dont you reveal who you are or are you trying to avoid dirty laundry of your own from being aired out since you seem so comfortable calling me out
Oh and i forgot to mention just incase you think your going to be cute and make an a** out of yourself with the exception of that speeding ticket my record is clean. So who are you to be trying to call me out. Try not being a p**** and exposing yourself because I have nothing to hide.
Yes, teenagers rebel, but most do not express it by murder.
You best believe these 3 stooges were raised buy some real ingorant folk DURING the first 3 to 4 years of their development.
The parents may be saints now, but WHO were they when these boys were toddlers? It is our job as parents to teach humanity to our children.
The Ellerby boy has a good mother she did all she could to raise her son right. You can only train a child the way you want them to grow, but when they are grown you are not responsible for their action.Grown people makes mistake just like children to do. Sometimes parents have to let go and let God.Know your fact, Lekevious was raised by both of his parents. He always had his father in his life. So you can't blame that BS about growing up without a father. The person that is in fault is the one that commit the crime. Lekevious is just a child that went for bad.I know Mrs. Ellerby personally, she is a Saint. I'm just keeping it real.
The first problem I see is that you write like you talk. The second is that you talk like an uneducated 5th generation public school dropout. I do agree that their parents should have been more active in how they were brought up. The problem with that is their parents didn't raise them with any values, ethics or morals. That makes 3 generations to blame for the death of the "innocent" Gordon student. Finger pointing will not bring him back; the only thing to do is get serious about punishing the criminals in Barnesville. Then their friends will think twice before doing the same stupid stunts.
Well as far as finger pointing goes u might want to check yourself. I graduated from high school and I graduated with a college degree from Georgia Military College so as far as uneducated your very wrong. What the city needs to do is declare a state of no tolerance. That is why there are so many repeat offenders in the system, because everythie they are released they whind up right back in jail. A perfect example of this would be the murder of Georgia State Trooper Chad LeCroy being gunned down by a man thst had 19 previous arrest and had just been released from jail 2 weeks prior to the shooting and was allowed to sign his own bond. It's time the judicial system stop failing the community and stand up for the victims of all of these tragedys

You should only speak what you know about. A parent can teach there child right from wrong but they can not make the choice for them. I know one of the suspects mother and she raised him well. Do not blame parents for a child's mistakes. As the old saying goes you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink it. Your comment sounds extremely ignorant.

I see no one has made comments on the judge Wilson sons being arrested pointing to the parents. As a matter of fact I see no mention of the incident at all so since he is a judge you not blaming the parents. Wow
this is so sad .. this does not mean the parents did not raise them right you sound like a coward saying that ,, its 2011 do you know what kids see everyday out of there homes .. what kids choose to do when they become adult is there decision ...
I'm with you, there are no hand books on raising children and many of us had a lot of improper raising ourselves but we did not turn criminal. I don't think that the way they were raised has anything to do with the decisions they make as adults. Though these young men are under the age of 18...they knew what they were doing was wrong and if caught there would be consequences. they themselves NOT THE PARENTS, decided to take that risk.
Each of them has to step up and be accountable for their crime. I imagine their parents are completely horrified, disgusted, and embarrassed. Hopefully, they are not making excuses for their kid's actions.
Can someone with some background, etc. in this field tell me why all 3 face the death penalty? Investigators have already determined Spinks administered the fatal shot. Does the death penalty come with any of the other charges?
Mr. Roberson, I agree whole heartedly with you. The vast majority of crimes committed by young people can be traced to homes where the parent or parents were either unwilling or unable to be responsible for the upbringing of their children. I know there are always exceptions to the rules but the numbers don't lie!
I think all of you don't know about one of these young men. He did go to college and had plans to go back. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and has been wrongly accused bacause he had hung around these boys at some time.He is a fine young man and the truth will come out. He has made a mistake by being associated with the others and is paying the price. Bryce is INNOCENT.
I haven't had any contact with Bryce in a few years, but in his earlier years I know his mother had him involved in rec. sports and he was a good kid then. His name is not one that I recall hearing about as being a trouble making kid. I can believe he may have gotten in with the wrong crowd, but he still must face the consequences of the decisions he made as he is a grown man now. Death may be too harsh punishment, but some time in jail is likely warranted. Bryce has high rehabilitation potential and his testimony may be able to keep another kid from making bad choices when it comes to friends and fun.
lethal injection is exactly what they need. what the judicial system needs to do is if you kill someone u should be sent straight to the table and save us money
These boys all associated with each other and apparently had intent when they went there. The article says who fired the fatal shot but not who fired other shot. I think that parents should know where the kids are late at night. Most of the worst crime happens after midnight. If any of these boys are decent, the parents should have stepped up to the plate and laid down rules if you are going to live at home.
They're not lost their going to a place better than what they have now. It's not going to make Barnesville any safer but it will clean the streets a little.
I give up! You are all a bunch of ignorant liberals looking to point fingers at someone or something else as the cause for their problems. Well the fact is - you are a part of their problems. You want to give them an excuse for acting like a monster and put the blame in another direction.
Not everyone that grows up in a horrid home life turns to crime and not everyone born with a silver spoon grows up to be angles. It is an individual choice made by the individual doing the choosing.
They committed a crime and they should answer for it. How much is up to the criminal justice system. They had every right not to be a participant as you had of being one.
I know two of those young men very well. Its not the parents fault it's the boys fault. The one lekeivus was the ring leader of westchester. He's been going for bad for a long time. The guy that they shot had just jumped on him a few months earlier when he broke into his house the first time. It is a very sad state of affairs for the city that the police department never did anything about this young man. He is a menace to society and the courts should treat him as such. I feel sad for the other two because they let a low life thug ruin their lives
For all those saying that the parents of the three suspects did not raise them well how do you know how they were raised? Did you do everything your parents said? A parent can only do so much once the child is grown there is not much you can do. As a parent you can only teach your child the rights and wrongs of life and only prey they make good decisions when they are not in your presents.
I went to school with two of these MEN and as an ADULT now, parents don't need to be held responsible, although they may be responsible for not teaching them morals, we don't know for sure, and they knew what they were doing was against the law. I had an awful childhood filled with sexual, physical, and verbal abuse, drugs, alcohol, and domestic violence. The value system of my life was thwarted, indeed, but I am not a criminal and by the wrongs in my life I have learned right. When you grow up, you are aware of the consequences of your actions. These men had a choice and they made the wrong one. It is not their parents' fault. They need to do the time the law requires, and I do not believe that all of them deserve the death penalty. Life in prison, absolutely.
I do, however, feel great remorse that two of my classmates were involved in this. I really think that if the police and sheriff's offices would step it up, the drug and crime rate will diminish somewhat, but the real thing that is needed in this town is JESUS CHRIST.
Amen to that! People that really know God and have a relationship with him do not go around killing people. I pray that these three boys find God in the prison that they will be sent to and ask to be saved. Other wise hell will be a very hot and dark place for them!
Ms. Sherry, they were all residents of the Westchester neighborhood. I live in this neighborhood and this is affecting all of us! The neighborhood is not the same and my guess is, it never will be!! I do wanna say though, I really love the fact that everybody is pointing fingers at the parents!! I know the parents VERY well and they are not to blame! Who in the hell raises a murderer, who raises a child molester, who raises a violent, drug addict? No parent that gives a damn is gonna say when they look at their baby after they are first born and say " I am gonna raise you to be a disgrace to this world, I want you to be a trouble maker and better dead to us all than alive!" Who says that? I also LOVE the fact that SO many of you pointed your fingers at Kievius saying that HE WAS the one who definitely did it and that he was the ring leader b/c he's terrorized our neighborhood, guess what YALL WERE WRONG!!!!!! It's funny how the Power Of Suggestion from ONE person, or ONE IDIOT rather, can persuade the decisions of so many others!! We need more Indians and less chiefs!
Mandy, that statement made no sense to any of us! No wonder your neighborhood was being terrorized by those thugs, everybody must be on one accord on setting the tone for their neighborhood and it sounds to me that most of you just straddle the fence and let the neighborhood go to hell.
You sound like a kid yourself, how could you know these 35* age people when your probably a little more than half there age. You probably don't even know their names.
I am 31 years old with two kids of my own!!! You don't understand what I am saying because you are an idiot!! Don't come on here judging me! I pay my bills and live my life right without the help of anybody, so if you think your gonna get me all pissed off, you are wrong! You have no relevance to my life because you are an idiot and I am almost positive you have even bred MORE idiots!!! Get a life and quit worrying about somebody else's! Thanks Tom! I am glad you get what I am saying!!!
"so if you think your gonna get me all pissed off"
1. "You don't understand what I am saying because you are an idiot"
2. "You have no relevance to my life because you are an idiot"
3. "I am almost positive you have even bred MORE idiots"
4. "Get a life and quit worrying about somebody else's"
So you're not going to get pissed off? Looks like you are already there.
Looks like you are the one wearing the DUNCE Cap now too. I guess you were lookin in a mirror when you were pointing fingers at an idiot. Only an idiot would talk like that.
So it took 31 years to develop brain damage. I guess I'm ok then because I'm ovcr 55.
One suggestion: Take a look at what you say before you hit submit. You might just see who sounds like the real idiot.
Actually I was the one who said the comment under yours Tom and it was in reference to #12.1.1 . I forgot to put my name!!! And I don't live in the hood either #12.1.1.2.2 ! Westchester is NOT the hood! This is an isolated event, have you ever heard of anything like this before? NO! And I have been here almost 10 years. I believe in the hood, EVERYBODY gets help from the government and that's certainly not the case here sweetheart and furthermore, you are more of an idiot today than yesterday, It's not possible that I am the mother of a 21 year old!! Moron!!
First of all, I am so sick and tired of everyone blaming the parents. In most cases parental involvement is often the blame but not in every instance. Of the 3 men I know for a fact that 2 of the parents were actively involved in these (grown men lives). In addition to this statement as a youth Lakevious was actively involved in Church and look how he turned out. Society has made this generation feel that it is ok to be a thug (black or white). Read your bible all of the things transpiring now is a sign that we are living in the last days.
Secondly, if you want to blame someone blame the government. This country is becoming more like a at will state when it comes to being a parent How can you discipline your kids when DFACS is called for everything that you do?
Let's start a poll. How many times have parent's reached out for assistance with their unruly children from law enforcement only to be reported to DFACS? I am quite sure this have applied to many of you.
This non-sense is being instilled in these kids head that disclipine doesn't exist. So if anyone reading this message board is an educator, police officer, judge, etc and you want to point the finger (remember one is always pointing back at you). This is a community (small at that) and we should be trying to help each other strengthen it. But sadly, most of us are still blinded by ignorance.
If my child ever called DFAS to me...he would be smart enough to also call 911 before hanging up the phone. BUT......
SOME "GIVERS OF BIRTH" and "SPERM DONERS" need to have their children placed in a decent home. Maybe the children can at least have a chance of being productive citizens.
Well, the first problem is that you are having to reach out to law enforcement to help raise your kid. Maybe, if you had raised them right in the first place you wouldnt have to be calling the police on them. Quit trying to blame your problems on everyone else. If you are having to call the cops to raise them, maybe its a good thing the cops turn around and call DFACS on you.
I am an educator and my children are well behaved. I get compliments all the time when we are out in public. "Your children are so well behaved" Well that doesn't happend by saying "Oh honey don't do that!" Yes, I will tear there behinds up in a minute when they get out of line. That's the problem more parents need to get over the "Oh honey don't do that" 50 times before they realize the kids is still doing it. Pop their butt and nip it in the bud now. My parents did it to me and I thank God everyday that they taught me right from wrong. Too many children today do not fear their parents or the law. Well I got news for some of these kids. There is one person they should be taught to fear and that is the punishment the good Lord will instill upon them when judgement day comes. Yes, it is coming! If your one of those people that are reading this and say I'm a Jesus freak, then I would rather be that and know where I'm going than to not have a relationship with the one and only God I serve. If we all got back to basics (The Holy Bible) the world would be a much better and happier place. It's not about what you can get here on earth, it's what you give and how you act will determine your reward in eternity. I would rather be in heaven than in the hot, dark lonely place they call hell!
I know 2 of the 3 young men in question. Sometimes, it can just be a matter of being in the wrong place. Also, as most of us, I've definitely made mistakes in my life.
...more to come...
Hey folks the young man Shameik Spinks does have very supportive and caring or tough parents how ever you want to put it! I know this because he was in a School in PA last year for troubled young men and I know him very well. It really isnt fair for us to talk about his parents who did try to give there son a chance at a better future. Lets make this clear Im not defending these young men but I am putting it out there that his parents were proactive in Shameiks life. He was living in Delaware his whole life but his Mother wanted to get her son away from the trouble that he was getting into and the people that he was around that is why she relocated to GA. His Mother was there for her son and she was loving and caring but she aslo was tough on him the way a parent who Loves her child would be!!!
I agree. I've known Spinks mother (my children and his mother have been life-long friends) and his grandmother before Spinks was born. They are God-fearing people and would not teach their children to be trouble makers...somewhere along the line, he stopped listening to his parents. Spinks family is devastated and have been in much prayer for him. We here in Nashville are also praying for the entire family. All of it is so senseless. I'm not defending any of the young men, but to blame the parents...no... that doesn't always make a child go bad. They have deeper problems when they decide to take someone else's life. All I can say is, "God have mercy." I love this family and I will continue to love and pray for them and the other families. "Judge not, least you be judged in the same manner." Be careful people.
Shameik is innocent i know he wouldnt this to someone. Ive known him for so long and this is something he wouldnt do because he knows what the outcome would be so get off my brothers case.
everybody in Barnesville knows bryce smith didnt do it soo therefore he shouldnt face the death penalty. They police have no proofthat he fired a weapon!!!!!!!
shameik,shamiek,shaskunk,shacrunk,shasheik,shaleak,sha-llow,shaboz,shazam,sha-iz,sha-iz-nit, shamekeil...im tired now...
