A woman and a child suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon in a collision on Hwy. 41 North at its intersection with Five Points Road.

The driver has been identified as Nancy Turner Wilson. The child is her nine-year-old daughter Eve. Nancy Wilson is a former Lamar Teacher of the Year.

I was there at the road that crosses over 41 above five points. Can't remember the name of that road. I was in the median going to turn left toward five points road, and there was a deputy standing there (a car there as well) he was HATEFUL and motioned for me to go straight. He didn't have to be that way.

The LAST thing that deputy was thinking about was making sure that he didn't hurt your feelings. As of right now the little girl is fighting for her life. We need to be focused on the important aspect of this situation and not how you feel about the deputy's social skills.

Dear Anonymous # 2.....My husband is a Georgia State Trooper and unless you have stood in their shoes or even the deputy's shoes, I ask that you refrain from being so NEGATIVE about the job they are having to do each & every day. My husband was at this wreck scene & I can tell you it was pretty bad! They have to stand out in the pouring rain, the freezing cold and the extreme heat doing their jobs! There was a reason for him to point you in another direction. In case you did not know it, the car had hit a "propane tanker" truck, which is a dangerous situation. So I guess if the deputy had let you go in that direction and the tanker had exploded, you would have been upset about that too! Take a minute & ask God to be with the child and her mother involved in this wreck and then thank God it was not YOU!

I always try to put myself in the person whom is in the wreck or just sick and think that if that was my family I would want his undevided focus on my family member .So try putting your place in that families !

We would like to thank all those who came to the aid of this lady and her daughter whether they were law enforcement officers, medical workers or citizens trying to help. My husband responded to the call and he was impressed with the quick reaction and professionalism of the emergency crews who were all working to save the lives of this wonderful mother and her precious daughter. Those who were there are most likely haunted by the horrible scene as I know they are so concerned about them. Our prayers are with Nancy - a marvelous teacher - and Eve - a gifted dancer - and all the members of their family.

Before posting this ignorant comment, did you stop and think about what that deputy was having to deal with? More often than not, our deputies are the first to get to these scenes when its out in the county. Imagine for a moment having to witness this poor woman and that innocent child in the sate they were in. Now imagine having to cope with that and immediately start working traffic. I came through there about 530 and by then it was pouring rain and cold. Yet they were still there directing traffic to be sure everyone was safe. There is no way I could deal with the kind of mental stress they had to be under working this awful accident.

You are a small, pathetic human being. And I use the term "human" lightly.

In an emergency event such as this, the last thing anyone cares about is how "polite" the police are. They are there to do there job and take care of those involved in the accident and to keep people that don't need to be there from interfering with the life saving work that has to be done, which is exactly what the officer you mentioned was doing. The family is in my prayers for a fast recovery as well as you to get some common sense!

I worked for the DOT and if you weren't trying to be so nosey to see what all the comotion was about, you might realize that Officer may have save your life as well.You just would not believe nosey people we had some that would ride by just to see what was going on. I hope that all involved will be ok. We MUST pay attention when operating vehicles. I drive a big rig for a living and you would be amazed at all the things that I see out of these smaller vehicles. I think that everyone that aquires a license should be required to do some training with big truck drivers to see how dangerous they really are. Respect these big vehicles. Our stopping distance is a lot more than yours. Be safe out there.

Our prayers are with them. It was a horrible accident. I understand both the mother and daughter are alive but in critical condition and being transferred from the Griffin hospital to medical centers in Atlanta.

You obviously never had Ms. Turner as I knew her as a teacher...she was straight by the book. I find it hard to believe she was texting while she was driving. She was the only teacher who wouldn't allow us to have gum because it was against school rules at the time. Don't speculate on something you know nothing about. The wreck happened at 4:45pm today. My dad came up on it right as it happened. The little girl in the back seat was not moving and the mom was laying over the stearing wheel. when they took the little girl out of the back seat she was pale white and not moving. The mom you could tell she had broke both her legs. While some of you are being heartless and worried about how these cops are treating you, why dont you think about these victims. This little girl is fighting for her life This family needs prayers and support. Stop and think maybe the cop was trying to get you out of the way so he could get to the victims. I know your probably use to the world revolving around you but umm guess what at this time its not about you. There were 2 lives at state. Get your head out of your butt and think about other. Before you go to bed tonight why dont you be thankful for what you got and that you are healthy this girl doesnt know what tomorrow holds for her and her daughter. I work around these big rigs almost every day. The people who are drivers that comment on here are correct. EVERYONE needs a little more education and to learn to be more responsible on the roadways. Don't assume that driver's know anything about driving around the big trucks.
I hope that this woman and child will be okay and it is a horrible incident and could of been prevented.

It is sad when people suffer misfortunate accidents . Its even worse when children are involved . I can sympathize with law enforcement for having to cope with the reality of horrific accidents such as this one . I ask that everyone take a moment to pray for fast recovery of the mother and child, and the next time you cross paths with someone in rescue or law enforcement, tell them thanks for their service . They don't make a lot for what they endure each and everyday . Remember ! A big number of them served this country in the military and continue to serve this country through their jobs today . Also , we all need to slow down and pay attention to simpler things in life . Its not so much that we need more training, but to focus on the basics . Buckle up, obey speed limit, no distractions while driving, scan ahead, scan mirrors and blind spots, scan left, right, left at intersections, use signals, keep a safe space cushion ( distance between vehicles ), avoid road rage, and be courteous to others .

I had to detour last night about 5:45pm through Milner because of this accident. I hope the mother & daughter pull through. This is a horrible thing to hear about.

I'm not sure why she ran into the back of the tractor trailer (it was getting dark and was raining.....Was the trailer not lit up with lights?)

I will say that the divided hwy is a death trap in places and especially with tractor trailers they get impatient when crossing and they just will pull out because their bigger than us in cars. I've noticed this in particular with the logging trucks. There needs to be accelerations & deceleration lanes at all the turn arounds first off.

But that won't happen. No money for that I'm sure.

Not sure why Mrs. Wilson was traveling in the left lane southbound when she rear ended the tractor trailer. If she had been in the right lane, she would have passed right by it! There is plenty of visibility at that intersection and if it happened at 4:45 p.m. it was not dark as you can see in Walter's picture he posted! Some things we may never know! Just keep praying for this family!

This is so sad, My heart goes out to this family. And I can only imagine the pain Mrs. Wilson was going through thinking,not even knowing if her child was gonna make it. That had to be an awful scene. I hope and am praying for this family and this little child that was hurt.. Somebody stupid always has something really ignorant to say, who cares about your feelings, this was a bad accident obviously and some lives could have been taken. They will be in my thoughts.. I truly love this family. Alice Turner is one of my favorite people..I call her Aunt Alice. She has done so much for my family, especially my girls, and been so helpful and kind to each of us. Yeah, I remember that, too. I hate this happened to her. Her kids were her pride and joy, she always talked about them. We all need to be in serious prayer that God will pull them through this. He's done it before for others, and He can do it again for them.

does anyone know the status of the mom today? so sorry to hear about the little girl. My husband is a trucker and i can say he was in a headon collision 3 years ago and still has nightmares about it. He wasn't at fault because the other person in the car hydroplaned right into my husband but it is hard on those truck drivers as well when they hear the news of the accident later on during the week. Send prayers for all involved. The truck driver may have tried to stop for something quickly and she may have hit him/her. No matter what happened everyone involved will remember the accident and will need thought and prayers and words of encouragement. Hope all the family will feel the love of God at this time and that the truck driver will find comfort.

I had Mrs. Wilson and her husband for teachers at LCCHS...they were both great teachers and cared for their students in and out of the classroom. In times like this it is hard to understand why things like this happen, but helps to remember some of the happy memories. I remember when Mrs. Wilson had "mole day" on October 23rd and we had to be at school by 6:23 A.M. I also remember how hard her class was, but how she always worked with her students to help them out in anyway she could. Thanks for being great teachers and I am praying for you and the family in this time of difficulty. Love yall and thanks for all you have done.

Then we sit down and have a chat
Recalling this, discussing that
Until some task that I must do
Forces me away from you.

Reluctantly I say good-bye
Smiling with a little sigh
For though my daydreams bring you near
I wish that you were really here.

But what reality can not change
My dreams and wishes can arrange
And through my wishing, you'll be brought
To me each day... A happy thought!
