Well, I for one am not surprised one bit by this. They have such a high employee turn-over rate there, it's ridiculous. Last I heard, they've had over 30-40 people quit that place in the short 4 years of it's operation. It's probably costing the state more to train replacements than they bring in with those inmate details.
I know everyone is entitled to an opinion but lets be realistic here. Everyone can't work behind prison walls. You have to do it to understand it. LPRC is probably the best thing that has happen to this county. Before you comment at least know what the real issues are. NUMBER 1....reguardless of the turnover rate your community has still been safe since its been here meaning NO INMATE HAS ESCAPED and remember who help keeps your so call CITY clean.....think about that......

HAVE YOU SEEN HOW MANY MURDERS, HOME INVASIONS AND SHOOTING HAVE OCCURED IN LAMAR COUNTY IN JUST THIS PAST YEAR. YEA IT'S A GIVEN THAT IT IS A GOOD THING THAT THERE HAVENT BEEN MANY ESCAPES IN LAMAR COUNTY CORRECTIONS HISTORY. BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM THIS COUNTY FACES IS THE FACT THAT SO MANY OF THESE REPEAT OFFENDERS ARE STRIKING HUGE PLEA BARGAINS AND ARE GETTING RIGHT BACK OUT ON THE STREET. DONT WORRY ABOUT THE JAIL UNLESS YOU WORK THERE. WORRY ABOUT THE ELECTED OFFICIALS IN THIS COUNTY THAT AREN'T SO MUCH WORRIED ABOUT CLEANING THIS COMMUNITY UP AS THEY ARE ABOUT GETTING THEIR POCKETS A LITTLE DEEPER.
Good. I assume that the picture is computer selected. I would hope that a prisoner can only smoke in solitary confinement. Does anyone know if a prisoner is allowed to smoke inside?
No...the state banned smoking at all state facilities. Although the inmates still manage to smuggle cigarettes in. Why? Are you worried about the effects of second hand smoke on the rest of the inmates?
they sell cigarettes to the permanent inmates. The perm inmates turn around and sell them to the diagnostics that cant buy them and make more money per year than you and I combined. This is the hustle of prison life. Sell cigs, drugs, buck (alcohol), store items, stamps, sexual favors, etc. 7-10 stamps per cigarette. You do the math. Or them buy some on credit and get their family to send a money order to the other ones family.
They cannot smoke inside the facility however. They do but arent supposed to. Roll up a wick and it will burn all day if done right.
and while all the Pippin mess and Crow's Nest
mess unfolds what are our commissioners doing? You have to keep an eye on them, if they are not front page news Jimmy Hearn might actually stand up for something instead of being a yes man and we will miss it
in reference to #1. The whole dept of corrections as a whole has a huge turn over rate. They operate on a good ol boy system too. Its very political in the DOC. I worked there for years and got the hell out of dodge ASAP. I worked at Jackson though. They are understaffed atleast 50 people not counting the new institution that opened beside GDCP. This is a threat to security along with the hoodlums that they hire from the trailer park and ghetto that bring stuff to the inmates in trade for money. It is very dangerous out there. You have no idea unless you have been there. "Atlanta" headquarters has been notified repeatedly on these issue of being understaffed and arranges a time for them to come down to view things. Well guess what, they call all reinforcement in from split shift and shut down certain areas to make it look like the prison is running fine. Its not and people dont like it. IF they have balls, they quit. If they feel trapped, they stay there and hope nothing happpens.
is this the same jail that ol waller told every county to come get there people out of when he pitched his little school child fit when he lost the election to Buice that time?
Then why are they still building a hospital section for prisoners and medicaid recipients near the property? I once say DNR fire two workers that made a total of $24,000 for both and buy a tractor that was in the budget (that cost over $30,000 when they had 5 already and only one person that can operate them).
These facilities cost tax payers to much to operate . I would rather spend my hard earned tax dollars on multiple leather straps , use them effectively and watch most of this criminal activity come to a halt . The criminals of this world are in need of some SERIOUS DISCIPLINE and then rehabilitation ! What ever happened to consequences of actions ? It seems this only applies to the victims anymore . Our legal system is sick and needs rehabilitation !
If all of these people would quit having younguns to get more welfare money, the prisons wouldn't be so over-crowded. These folks have all these babies and then let them run the streets like hoodlums and then cry "my baby, my baby" when they go to jail for dealing drugs, stealing or gang banging. I think we ought to tie tubes on anyone with more than 2 kids and receiving welfare.
I totally agree with #14 Children have no respect for their parents or anyone else. They have no home training because mom is usually out there making another one for the taxpayers to support. STOP THE ENTITLEMENTS. Make the mothers of these children stop buying diapers and convenience foods. If they live on welefare then they should be made to cook and clean diapers the old fashioned way. It didn't kill me to do these things and I work. If they have time to go and reproduce then they have time to take care of the home.
This is very off topic but I don't see a better place to put it. Can someone please tell me the story of the big unfinished house out on HWY 41? I have been visiting B'Ville for years and have watched the house rotting down along with the expensive looking car parked out front. I am fascinated to know what the story is. Nosy might be a better word if I was to be honest. Thanks in advance for any responses.
I am glad you asked that question. I have seen that house and wondered so many times. And...how has that car sit there so long and never been vandalized?
