The threads on the Barnsville site are much more interesting than ours on the Pike County site. there are high speed chases, drug busts , roberies & racism..... over here in Mayberry we are butting heads over mud bogging ,having to have permits for yard sales & fighting to keep out TEEN CHALLENGE.... yall want teen challenge?
Why do it always have to be about dreads, that dont have nothing to do with it. Everybody that sell drugs dont have dreads. I know alot of people that have dreads who have a good job, still in school making good grades and they DONT SELL DRUGS, so this is not the issue. Maybe if some of the jobs will give the drug dealers a chance they wouldnt be out there like that. But i think with the dreads thing people are saying its racist and i dont like it at all.
What difference does it make if he is white, black, pink or purple... If he had that many drugs he should go to jail!!!! Why does everybody want to make everything into a race issue?
Your right it's not the amount of drugs he had, it's the quality (just kidding). I think that if "The Paper" would do some honest research they would report that color is a factor in the local drug problem.
Black+Dreds=Barnesville thread gold. BTW he does have dreds. KEP YOUR HEAD UP QUINTON. WE PRAYING FOR YOU. ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE. BLAH BLAH BLAH...there I went ahead and summed up all the comments after this one.
This is an artical about a "Man arrested after a police chase" that is news, wether the man is black red yellow white or green that is not telling me the news that a man in my community has been arrested for serious drugs after a chase. I read the paper to see what is happening in the community. It sounds like some people read it for "is it a black guy or white guy". Let's get real people, a paper reports the news as they get the facts, I am sure that when they get the rest of the details for all of you that are so worried wether it is black red yellow white or green (personally I am hoping not green) then it will be reported. What does this have to do with these drugs are off of our streets!
Well spoken. It is very easy for us to cast a color stereotype in our reporting. However, ethics keep us from doing so. The news is that someone was apprehended and the police were able to gain a step in the local war on drugs. I am so confused as to why many of us feel the need to compound this news with stereotypes and injustice.
expect more drug addicts and dealers to come...as a kid growing up in the 80's during the recession of the Reagan years, i noticed an influx of drugs and addicts into lamar county. this recession under President Obama will see the same, if not, more dealers and addicts. during hard times, people want to get away from the stress of hardship due to the economy. i'm not making excuses for anyone but these things happen. in my opinion, drugs should be legal and follow the same laws we have for alcohol and cigarettes. no one under 21 should be allowed to buy, no selling on sundays and no selling after let's say 2am daily. think of all the tax money the state will received each year. i live in california now and one of our senators just submitted a bill last week that would completely legalize marijuana. it's a 16 billion dollar a year business in california and will generate 1 billion a year for the state. it will follow the laws which governs liquor and i think it's a damn good idea.
I agree. Over the last 20 yrs this country has spent billions trying to stop the war on tdrugs, and today there's an even bigger drug problem than there was 20 yrs ago. Talk about throwing money down a rat hole! Congress tried Prohibition and it failed miserably. Not to take anything away from the law enforcement officers who are doing the best they can, but if they were to legalize the stuff, legislate it with similar laws as alcohol and tobacco, educate against drug use, like alcohol and tobacco, then we'd probably see the decline in use that we all are looking for. It's simple economics of supply and demand; we've been attacking the supply end, but until we educate people demanding this stuff, it will not go away. And no, I'm neither a user nor a dealer.
I'm going to take a very unpopular stand. We have lowered our moral standards on so many things because it is easier or makes money. I don't know of anyone who has profited from the use of drugs. I do know some who have totally blown their brains by using them. If we need money to the point of making this junk legal, then we need to experience the "doing without everything you want" idea. I don't buy this business of people doing it to put food on their table or clothes on their backs. If we as honest people would stand up to these thugs and our children who want these drugs (instead of making excuses for them) I think this might be a step in the right direction. As parents, do you know where your children are? As a parent, are you setting a good example for them?
I agree with what you are saying but pot has its problems too. I believe smoking a lot of pot makes you stupid (or dense). It is a mind altering drug so for many users it will have psychological implications over time. It will in deed change “who” you are just by what it does to you. It will lead to different types of mental disorders for many, but could relieve some for a few. I do agree that the casual users should have nothing to worry about but the words “casual use” does not exist for most people. One thing I do know….I don’t smoke, drink or do drugs, but I if I had to make a choice, I would rather be around someone who smoked pot than cigarettes or drank alcohol. There is nothing worse than a stinky sloppy drunk.
Alcohol makes you stupid and dense too and there's no shortage of it at the convenience store. Tobacco rots your lungs inside out and it's available at every convenience store counter. There's really no difference, because they're all bad for you.
I don't think this is an unpopular idea at all. Our family's finances have been hit by the downturn in the construction of new homes. We have had to reset our priorities. Has it been easy? NO. Will we ultimately end up with all the "stuff" we started with when the downturn began a couple years ago? Maybe not, but I can say one thing with complete and utter confidence...I will never resort to selling drugs to keep all my stuff.
#15- You indeed have a point. I have two kids. I do not want to see them doing any of these, and I feel its my duty as a parent to see that they do not take up with this stuff. But I also feel like if it were legalized, 99% of the dealers would be put out of business. How many moonshiners are still at it? If it were legalized I still wouldn't want to do them, and I'd still educate my kids against this stuff. Just because something is legal doesn't mean you should do it, or have to do it. These people that are on drugs, how many had a gun held to their head forcing them to take it? They do it of their own free will! And they'll continue to, until they decide they don't want to. That being said, the gov't should legalize it and tax the fool out of. Let the tax generated from it pay for the education programs and the rehabs, that way you and I won't have to pay for it. And then you'll see drug use decline.
Get Along PPL its not about race.. if he black he just black if he white he just white if hes yelllow with purple polka dots it still doesnt matter!! get it together!
I don't agree with you on this. Do you realize how many people are hooked on "drink" to the point they will let the things they or their family need go in order to have it. Have you seen people pay for their groceries with food stamps - then turn around and purchase booze with cash? I still don't think easy access is the answer. I don't want to give up moral values and things that I think build character to put money in the coffers. I can do without a lot of things I have, and no doubt most of you could too, so I say keep fighting against drugs and thugs.
I have seen people drink themselves to near starvation, yet alcohol remains legal. My moral values keep me from doing all these things. But that doesn't give me the right to say what others can or can't do. I just think that tax money from this could pay for the substance abuse education and centers, so that us taxpayers who don't do these things are not burdened with it. We are paying for far too much as it is. Let the drug trade pay for itself.
I still see it as lowering our standards. Sorry, there is not a perfect answer, but I still think it will be detrimental to us all to legalize this stupid stuff. I can't put money as a main priority.
Well first they need to start with the drugs that are out in the open that they refuse to do anything about. After ppl are scared to stand on the corner for hours on in because the police will approach them, then we should move on to houses whether it be meth, crack or whatever.
I cannot believe how many ppl stand on corners just down from the police station and sell dope all day. You can tell whos corner is whos. Same ppl there everyday doing the same thing. I think the police are too lazy to get in a foot persuit so they just keep on going.
Seems to me you never know who the police are watching...I think they may be going after the bigger fish...you know like Tamp and who ever that guy was that was on Chanel 2 news.
About the dreads comments...i make a comment about it pretty regularly. But most of the time it is complete sarcasm. I am usually pointing out that some new criminal (and there seem to be an abundance of those in Barnesville) DOES NOT have dreads. What a horrible stereotype. For the record, I'm white. I think that any time a criminal is caught and the opportunity to get any drugs off the street comes along, it is a good thing! Keep in mind that drugs know no racial boundaries! People of all races and walks of life are struggling all across America with addiction...whether it be with crack, meth, pills, alcohol, etc. Instead of seeing black and white, maybe everyone should start seeing things in other colors...for instance, drug user/non-drug user, good wholesome person/criminal. Ban together or separate yourselves based on something a little more solid people. come on, its way past time for you to evolve!!
Does it really matter what ur race is? You can be red, yellow, blue or green-If it looks like drugs, smells like drugs, taste like drugs THEN IT HAS TO BE DRUGS. An our president I do believe is MIXED and he said for me to tell all of you this HE HAS ENOUGH ON HIS PlATE HE DOESN'T NEED ANY OF THIS besides he's trying to get his aunt a green card so she can be legal and live at the white house.

Haha, why is it that anytime that phrase is said, it is always about a person that is going to jail for a very long time?
