Sgt. Webster cleared in shooting

District attorney Richard Milam announced Friday that Sgt. Chris Webster of the Lamar County sheriff's office has officially been cleared of all wrongdoing in the shooting death of Brian Keith Giddens Feb. 8.

There are two K-9 officers. Yes, Sgt. Webster is one.

Wonderful news. That is what I expected but it is still good news.

It is still sad when a Deputy puts his life on the line to defend "us" and their every move is questioned.

Mr. Webster.......please erase this ugly episode from your memory. You answered a call, done your duty and I am very proud to have you and deputies like you.

I often wonder how often Deputies receive pay increases. NOT OFTEN ENOUGH, I will guarantee you that.

I am sure deputies get one each time the current sheriff gets one...but they deserve more frequent raises than the Sheriff. They are the ones whose life is in danger. The sheriff in any county is like a coach in a ball game. If the coach is absent, we can still have a ball game, if the TEAM is out.....IT AIN'T HAPPENING.

You are so correct. We should all commend all law enforcement officers for putting their lives on the line for us every single day. They go through much more than the public realizes.

Thank you officer Webster, good on the job experience for protecting yourself and others. Plus,you have a family at home that has to be proud of you for helping protect the citizens of Lamar county. Good job!

I hope the powers that be confiscate phone records from Rachel's cellphone and Ms. Giddens home phone. The events leading up to the tragedy would show that she had called her drug dealer to bring her some dope at the end of the driveway. Brian told her no and the fight ensued. All the facts need to be made public to reveal Rachel's actions leading up to Brian's fatality. She is not innocent. Her prison record and yearly arrests clearly indicate her involvement and partially responsibility in Brian's death.

Chris had to do his job. He was in the right all the way. Thank you Chris!

By all means pull the records and put them both in jail. I find it hard to believe that people have to be caught in the act selling or doing drugs to get arrested. I think if drugs are found in your body by police at anytime you are tested you should get locked up!

Yes...Rachel is partially responsibil.He should have let her walk and keep walking!
I pray she gets the help she needs to overcome her addiction and the thought of blood on her hands.
And yes, I hope the law checks the phone records! This dealer should be investigated!

Did the dealer or Rachel point a gun at the officer? Im just curious....she may be the blame for the fight but his own actions killed him. Surely he had to know all about her and all that goes along with that. It is really sad for the family though, as I know you cant always control what your kids do.

She is nothing but trouble. Her mother knew it and her former friends and other family members know it. Here's a warning to everyone else (especially the male gender) that doesn't know her: stay far away.

Chris Webster is an awesome Sheriff and person. He does what is needed for the citizens of Lamar County and goes beyond his call of duty to help people. He listens to the problem and then takes the necessary steps needed to help. He is a great asset to Lamar County!!!!Thanks for all your hard work!!!!
