All three local governments are gearing up for next year’s voter referendum on the special district transportation sales and use tax, commonly known as T-SPLOST.

They should give out cards to people who vote against this and those people should not have to pay the tax. That way only people that didn't care to vote and stupid people who vote themselves a tax will be the only people paying the tax.
We should rename it and call it SPSPT - Stupid People's Special Purpose Tax.
You can call all of these SPSPT's. Everyone seems to think that if they don't vote for these sorts of taxes, that the powers that be will simply raise the property taxes to cover it, which is simply not true! Your property taxes will go up regardless of whether these add on taxes are approved or not, because government has yet to figure out how to balance a checkbook! Approving these SPLOSTs (T, E, or whatever) just gives them more of your money to blow on wasteful spending.
And all that vote no will get a trench dug at the road so they cant use the roads any more.Another thing it's ten counties so I guess youll be driving a good ways to get your goods #2.
Hopefully everyone will vote against this added tax as this time the county government cannot blackmail us by just taking the monies they would have got from SPLOST out of more property taxes like they would have if SPLOST had failed.
I recall seeing we were going to give out more sales tax money that we would get with the TSPLOST. Yeah, we really need to subsidize Coweta County's projects. Why was this omitted from the online.
And to the IDA we do have a choice--NO to the tax. We should be able to opt out if our county votes against.
I will tell you this, if this additional sales tax is added it will just be another reason not to shop in Barnesville and Lamar County. Business owners here might want to consider that before they support this crappy tax.
And let's not forget ESPLOST that's coming, SPLOST that some of you approved, TSPLOST, fire and ambulance assessment and then the probability of a property tax increase, folks bend over,
If the people don't get off their butts and vote, we will soon see an extra 3% in sales tax. Thanks SPLOST supporters! You voted yes because there was something in it for you. Well guess what? Supporters of these two other SPLOSTS are going to do the same thing! They will vote yes because they will be promised something too. That's how it works... just hold that carrot out on the stick and the dummies will fallow.
I reluctantly voted for SPLOST because it was made clear that they were going to do the projects anyway so I would have ended up paying more property tax (even more than they are already going to raise anyway to the poster that probably rightly says they are raising property taxes regardless). I am sure it will be the same situation with the ESPLOST.
But that is not the situation with TSPLOST, so I will definitely be voting No to that one. And if anyone can show me how we can vote No on ESPLOST and keep them from just adding to Property taxes and do what they want anyway, I would gladly vote No on that too.
The problem with any of these SPLOSTs is that it allows government to collect taxes while keeping their hands clean. They are not accountable for this tax increase because the voters OK'd it for them (even if it was only 10% of the registered voters). By voting a SPLOST down, they will be forced to either work within their means, as we taxpayers have to do, or raise taxes to cover their spending. Working within their means would mean that they will not be able to do a lot of these wasteful pet projects that are currently being done. When they choose to raise taxes, you will immediately know who is accountable for your tax increase, and you can vote them out of office. I am not in favor of my property taxes going up any more than anyone else is, but I am a firm believer in accountability.
Don't forget the air you breath tax and clean the radiation out of the environment tax that will be added to property tax along with clean up the gulf tax and too much American Idol Tax.
