The county could use this facility for one year and get this whole town back on its feet. There are so many things that need to be done around here that passerby motorist dont see. Inmates have to be fed reguardless, we might as well work them.
I would be glad to take a detail out and work them as a part time job. I did this for a while as a full time job years ago.
Dr. Truby is cutting out a lot of stuff from the school. Wonder why he didn't cut his on pay? And built a 56,000.00 Fine Arts sign and Hired That Votaw man to do one show a month and I heard they pay him at least 25K a year! Time for you to go TRUBY!
You have absolutely lost your mind Anonymous #5. My God -- Man -- do you actually revel in the thoughts of living in a town with a school system that had nothing in the way of modern facilities, before Dr. Truby came on board. Unbelievable-mentality...
It's not that I don't want them. If you are about to lay off Teachers and cut much needed positions. Don't you think the other stuff could wait? What's more important a child learning or Votaw and his one man show at the Fine Arts? You tell me? Have you lost your mine?
#5.2.1, apparently you are an armchair quarterback that can call the right plays, after they have already been executed. Hindsight is 20-20, my friend. If we only knew which play that would work, then we would score everytime. I've got news for Ya'. It doesn't work that way.
Predicting what the State is going to do on budget cuts is like playing the lottery -- or, in your case calling the plays from your seat in the stands.
Dr. Truby is / was operating ahead of the curve. This 'MO' of cutting back & laying-off personnel is going on all over the state. Get a clue.
"This 'MO' of cutting back & laying-off personnel is going on all over the state. Get a clue. " Do you understand that is business as usual for the Government? Anytime there is a shortage of funds, the first thing they cut is the stuff that will effect the taxpayers (you and me) first. That way they can "justify" getting a tax increase. The Board will pander to the public saying that if they do not get a tax increase they'll have to lay teachers off. Most people fall for it, others have given up.
And what was our property taxes like before Truby?

Dr. Truby is one of the best things to ever happen to this community. I guess if some of you uneducated, knot-head, nay-sayers were in charge, we'd all go back to the days of one room school houses and school marms. The bottom line is, whether you like him or you don't like him, Dr. Truby is the best thing going today!
Amen, LC Trojan FOR LIFE... You didn't sugarcoat your answer to these dimwits, uneducated-knotheads, & naysayers. Maybe there's hope, after-all. If you ain't moving forward, then you're moving backwards. Either lead, or get the hell out of the way.
Please explain to us "dimwits, knotheads and naysayers" just exactly how we are moving forward? You must be talking about the higher crime rate, higher drop out rate or the higher property taxes. So tell us, since you obviously have the superior intellect and please keep your answer to third grade level so we'll understand.
The county paid good money to have this center built now it is just going to put more people out of work while it sits idle and the taxpayers have to pay for the upkeep. I don't know about you but don't we pay enough in taxes that an increase in property taxes is just down right rediculous. Let the people who have kids in school pay the taxes to get what the school requires not put it on the property owners especially not when they don't have kids in school anymore.
The county did not pay for this center to be built. The employees of this center have been offered other positions. But I do agree with you about the taxes, except let me keep my taxes and send my kids to private school.
throwing money in a school system doesn't educate our kids look at washington d c over 10,000 dollars per child and they are still one of the lowest in education(stupid) above georgia (really stupid) however sadd parents need to step up and take an interest in their children's education and quit using the school system as a baby sitting service.abolish school tax and make them sell bonds for money and then put a user tax on the ones that use the school system have fund raisers to make up any shortfall like private schools make renters pay a tax for their kids to attend school.
What does Dr. Truby have to do with the closing of the pre-release center?
I feel like the amount of money spent to have the place, it should be used as the Jail it is supposed to be. That would be county, regional, or on a statewide basis. We have seen on the news where Cobb county wants the state to take the state prisonors from their facility, because it doesnt pay enough.
Looks like to me the state would utilize this facility, and not consider closing it.
The State will not do anything that "makes sense." If you do not believe me, take a look at the Tift College campus in Forsyth. The Dept. of Corrections is pouring money into Tift for offices and a training center which they ALREADY have. All the while closing prisons because of budget restraints. Seems to me, the Dept. of Corrections is more concerned with re-modeling and building complexes than they are with OUR safety.
