Unless a deal on temporary funding is reached today, the U.S. government will shutdown tonight, idling some 800,000 federal workers nationwide and about 75,000 in Georgia.

We all depend on the government on some level..but I realize that there are some of us who are in denial..
I will say that although I am not an "entitlement" program recipient, I too fear a government shutdown. This is not the way.
no pay for the congressmen, president and staff members. no back pay when you start it back up either.
keep in mind folks, they are arguing over whether or not to increase the federal budget by 300 billion or 234 billion. there are no cuts in this just less increase.

On the right of this page, you will find a perfect example of "where America is headed"...70% of the voters report that they know kids who would go hungry if they did not get free breakfasts and lunches in school. There is no free money PEOPLE. Taxpayers pay for all these entitlements. I think the people who vote in this 70% need to list the names because these children are going to be hungry on weekends and during the Summer also, aren't they?
This is true. However, George Bush did this, Billions of dollars in a senseless war. Do you think this affected it as well? I have been on this earth a mighty long time and the United States have wasted money in many different places. What do you think?
AMEN! I also think if you are drug tested to get a job, you should be tested to receive any kind of gov't assistance. Don't you know this would cut out a lot of welfare!
Lets also remember the disable who managed to lie and get disablity and doing jobs on the side with there free phones, food stamps, medicare A&B, supplemental insurance and SSI if the disability check is not big enough. This makes me soooooo MAD.
Sheila Tolley, problem is, the Whitehouse and Capitol Hill folks aren't affected by a government shutdown. Their pay doesn't come out fo the same pot as the rest of the government emplyees pay does, so this how dance they are performing is just a bunch of roosters showing their tail feather, trying to attrack ... votes. And more that 30% of this budget is pork-barrel ... lots of money for government funded abortions, et al. I suggest ripping out the fluff and passing the silly funding bill.
The people serving in the military should be able to split all the government employee checks as long as they "would have been" shut down. When the Demos ran chicken-like across state lines to avoid voting...did they get paid? Yes, they did. They should not have...the Military should have gotten their checks also. Our Military and our Deputies are the most underpaid and under appreciated people in our country.
It is a sad country when the military is treated with such disrespect. We will all realize it one day, way too late...but we will realize it.
My daughter just called from Norfolk VA where she serves in the Navy to notify me that her paycheck was cut in half. So while the shutdown is just "looming", the military has already begun serving for free.
I think that she still needs to eat and pay for the gas for her car to get her on to Naval Station Norfolk so she can continue to.... well, wait, she no longer works for pay, I guess she's now a volunteer. Does that mean that she can skip going in if she can't pay for gas?
Anyone else have a service member in the family who is now working for free?
It is politics at its finest for your daughter be paid less now - before the government shutdown.
Who has the authority to reduce pay at this point?
HMMM, seems that someone want the military to chime in loudly and force a compromise...Democrat at the Executive Branch, Democrats control the Senate, and Republicans control the H of R. Who has the most power?
BTW...thank you and your daughter for her service.
I am opposed to the military being used as pawns for political gain.
The proposed CR (continuing resolution) allowing the military to get paid even with a shutdown should have been passed.
Hello I am also currently serving in the Navy I am from barnesville. I have been serving since Aug, 2003. Finding out that my paycheck is cut in half and could get worse but still have to report to work and pay bills and rent is crazy ! I know exactly how your daughter feels and it is far from a good feeling.
obama needs to be kicked square in the a$$ everytime the pay of a military person gets cut by $1. The idiot has already voiced his opinion that they should pay their own insurance premiums. He needs to realize that The Military is AMERICA and FREEDOM's Insurance.
No military member's pay has been cut in half. Pay is set by congress and signed by the president. They still receive all the pay in benefits now that they were receiving before the media circus started.
For Cats ... I am retired Navy and I certainly know what you daughter is and may well be going through. Let's hope this is just another silly Capitol Hill shinanigan. If not, then I will certainly be on the front line to help her or any military person who is hurt by this ... silliness.
If 1/2 of Barnesville "LEADERS" shut down for a day, there would be many happy employees and dollars ahead....... Serious, think about the so called leaders here.... Puppets on a string.. Not even smart puppets... One person pulls a cord, and the puppets say "our command is your wish"..... How weak and how sad.
