A tornado which hopscotched across parts of Lamar County just before 1 a.m. Thursday killed two people. Authorities waited for daylight to seek additional victims. At 10:40 a.m., Major Brad White of the LCSO reported no more bodies had been found.
The victims have been identified as Paul and Ellen Gunter of the 400 block of Grove Street.
Southern Rivers has 1500 outages of which 1200 are in Lamar. Some may not be restored until Saturday night.

I wonder if there is a place where we can make donations of clothing, bedding and other items for those who lost their possessions?
who lost their lives this morning. Their adopted daughter, Chloe was treated after they found her in the trailer. I have heard nothing about Olin Gunter, who is Paul's father. Does anyone know if he was also in the trailer at the time the tornado hit?
To all that has been affected in any way from the storms, just know that the wound will heal but the scar will always be there. I am praying for each and every one of you.
Thank you firefighters, paramedics, volunteers. Be Blessed all of you.
Even I didn't understand what the uproar was about until I saw the words "ATV" and "body bags". Then I went back and saw that the picture was on the front page, but the link over to this page is broken.
I doubt anyone who replied, saying it was the natural course of disaster, even realized the problem was the front page picture, when all they saw was the debris of houses and vehicles.
Go buy you another set of rose colored glasses, evidently your others blew away in the storm when LIFE got real for a few moments.
You should be thanking Walter and his entire crew. They are the only paper around that is even trying to stay updated for people on line.
Stay away from the evening news. Our American Military Personnel are shown in body bags practically daily. To give ungrateful people like you freedom.
stop spewing hate and start praying for these people who have lost loved ones... use your words to ask where you can help instead of trying to anger and hurt people during this horribly tragic time... please do not mistake me.. yes that photo is horrible I do not wish to take anything away from that but why do people have to get angry and make a 'stink' about everything.. God Bless
Let me make one thing clear..again...all of the pictures are just great. Way to do your job Walter. The one picture with the body bags on the ATV's should come down. Have yall seen that one? Thats what the uproar is about. People may not have noticed it it wasnt in the caption under the pic. So Walter brought this to attention.
Keeping the community updated on what has happened has been a very valuable thing. And a commendable job has been done. But these people are our neighbors/friends/family. Please take the photo down.

This was not a cataclysmic event. It was only a small scale disaster. Neither Bush, nor Clinton would be down here if this happened while they were in office, so stop trying to take cheap shots at President Obama.
We help other countries because the disasters that occur to them usually occur on a much larger scale and kill many more people. Plus its called foreign aid for a reason.
Black people need to look in the mirror and see who is really the racist.
What a fool!
The people many of you saw in Army uniforms assisting in the devastated areas were not National Guard troops; They were Georgia State Defense Force troops (STATE troops as opposed to federal troops) that work for the Georgia Department of Defense.
They are all unpaid volunteers that purchase almost all of their own uniforms and equipment.
Their primary functions are to assist the National Guard and serve and protect only the citizens of Georgia in the event of disasters in Georgia - They do not leave the state, much less deploy to combat areas in foreign lands.
