Volunteer to help in storm's aftermath

If you want to volunteer to help in storm’s aftermath, call the Emergency Management Agency at 770.358.5166. They are coordinating volunteer efforts.

Shane's has offered to feed all emergency personnel today beginning at 1 p.m. The lunch will be set up in a central location inside the gymnasium on Academy Dr. Ingles is providing drinks.

My thoughts and prayers are with this little girl and her family in the days to come. I can't begin to imagine what she must be going through. Bless you sweet Chloe!

i wish i had known about the lunch. i was out all day helping folks.but hey i wasnt in it for anything free or money just trying to help out my neighbors.im tired now and sore all over but it was worth it just knowing i was lending a helping hand.
what really amazed me was when i would pull up to someones home and offer my help and tell them i had a chainsaw to work with and the looks i would get when they asked me how much i was going to charge them and i told them i wasnt there for the money just to help out where ever i could.
i think thats what neighbors are for anyways or at least thats the way i was brought up to think.

It is comforting to know that there are people out there as yourself. Thank you for being a help to so many people and for helping out. So many people now days expect something in return. I'm sure you were a big blessing to someone. The world needs more people like you!

Good for you. I really want to help the people of Barnesville, I too did not get a call back from the Disaster Management Agency.My heart is pulling me towards Barnesville. I will keep trying to lend a hand where needed, and all I ask for in return is to know that I made a difference for someone who needed me. I'm sure a lot of us in Thomaston would drop what we were doing and come running. God bless the heroic people of Barnesville, and may he keep them safe, and comfort those who lost loved ones- especially little Chloe! God Bless Your Little Heart!

Cleanup is surely going to be a long process. I've lived here my whole life and have never seen anything this bad happen so close to home.

I think we should all donate our time and efforts to help those in need.

I know of several people that called and signed up but have not been called back to find out what and where they can help. Has the Emergency Management number is the blog started calling the locals that signed up?

I have called EMS Center for the last two days to volunteer to help. Told this morning they do not need volunteer help. The next emergency they need help it will be harder to get volunteers. The EMS director apparently has never been to disasters as I have with the Southern Baptist Relief and Disaster Team for Hurricane Andrew in Florida, Hugo in S.C., floods in the mid west, and tornados in North Georgia.

Thomas, a political appointee's failure to return citizens' calls regarding willingness to help is unacceptable. If I were you, I would call an elected official such as your county Commissioner or the Sheriff. An elected official will ALWAYS return a voter's phone call, unless they're a complete idiot.

Hi all, Just want to let you all know that care packages are being prepared at First Works Church, 619 Old Milner Road, Barnesville, Georgia 30204. Teams are taking the care packages around tonight (Friday, April 29) and tomorrow (Saturday, April 30)to as many families as we can. Donations can be dropped off at First Works Church or call 678-359-1616 for more information. Care packages include one gallon of water(at least), soap, toothbrushes,toothpaste,washcloths,shampoo, a razor, combs, and bandaids. Many of our wonderful citizens here in Lamar County have already pitched in-so thanks for those who are already helping and we are still filling and distributing bags if you are looking for a way to help others!

Chloe's aunt and uncle are the custodial guardians for her. She will be taken care of and loved dearly by them and all that know her.
