Forsyth textile plant closing

Southern Textiles is closing its Forsyth manufacturing facility, a move expected to add 40 to the unemployment rolls in Monroe County.

a nother one down this is not right . ar'there enought people with out jobs now.all of our manufactory has went over seas what next???.

Bill Clinton signed the NAFTA treaty. After that, almost all textiles left.

This has nothing to do with NAFTA, although NAFTA caused many jobs to leave the USA.

This exclusively has to do with China and the trade agreements with China. Clinton signed that agreement with Communist China in 1999, and GW Bush later further removed barriers. The bad-for-USA trade policies continue today. They have been a problem since the 1980's through all administrations.

This is why factory jobs and smaller farms are vanishing.

If you read the text of the press release, you'll see the plant is converting to a distribution center. All manufacturing jobs, which is all a large cross section of our population can ever do for income, are being eliminated. We will all pay to retrain those people. Unfortunately many people who are good workers will just go on the public tab.

This is what always has happened as factories disappear. People who want to work can't find jobs.

This really all started with Reagan, who felt manufacturing was unimportant and we could have an entirely service based economy.

From what i hear that factory has been raided several times by INS for illegal aliens, namely from mexico. Is that true? The last time i went by there that was all i saw. If this is true, then why havent the management people from that plant been called on to the carpet, or maybe even fired?

i have a friend who lost a job there because he stood up for one of the girls who he said was being sexually harassed by a supervisor.

he's ready to talk to the media.

sounds have an inside track. someone should turn them in. or are you just causing trouble because you are the troubled 1?

maybe someone can file a frivolous lawsuit against leggett and platt to keep the plant open.
