FEMA changes clean-up ground rules; no more dumpsters

FEMA representatives who pulled into town Monday advised the Lamar County commission its efforts to clear tornado debris from rights-of-way will not be reimbursable unless it starts removing debris on a per unit basis rather than the hourly basis it was operating under.

As result, the county can no longer provide dumpsters to homeowners who must rent their own dumpsters or haul debris to the right-of-way for removal.

The county is also preparing to take emergency bids - bids that do not have to be advertised - for storm recovery work.

This is insane. For two days the work that has been HELPING these victims has STOPPED! Lamar County had a strong and aggressive response to this tragedy, and it gave people hope and confidence when they really needed it. And now FEMA comes in to "regulate" the relief effort? That's just insane. They'll stretch this out for years when it would have been cleaned up in weeks at the rate the county had it going. People need their lives back in order. They need the ugliness left by that storm to be gone from their everyday lives. They need real help from LOCAL folks who love them and care about them. We need our COMMUNITY reestablished.

If FEMA will be providing federal money to help the community, they have a right to do things their way.

Talk to your elected representatives about pushing for change on a federal level with regards to these things that are bothering you.

Whatever!!!! The federal guvment gets its money from where? The answer is "us" you and me. So they are going to tell "us" you and me, how to spend our money?
Let's take a look at other things the federal guvment has stepped in and told "us" you and me, that we have to do it their way.
1. Education
2. Choices about YOUR body
3. Immigration
4. Income tax
5. Vehicle safety
6. Television
7. Taking the Ten Commandments out of Courthouses
8. Drugs
9. Alcohol
etc.... etc....

You don't have to follow the rules. You have that choice. But you won't get reimbursed.

You people are not being good Republican. Have you forgotten the ideals of the Republican Party.

Good Republicans do not advocate for the redistribution of wealth. Filing for assistance means you are a failure. All homeowner policies cover tornado damage. And the homeowner is responsible for getting enough coverage to cover demolishing cost and rebuilding cost. Insurance cover is expected of everyone and explained to every school child who has ever attended elementary school.
Good republicans make money on disaster and death.
The other principles are:
Tax cuts are accompanied by Downsizing the Federal Government [NO AID FOR DISASTERS]

absolute right of property owners [YOUR PROPERTY, YOUR PROBLEM]

"Unfettered Capitalism" (ie no government regulation) [ NO GOVERNMENT PROTECTION]

"We oppose the Endangered Species Act." [INCLUDES REDNECKS]

WAIT ON TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS TO BRING GOOD JOBS BACK TO THE RURAL SOUTH.[that one is a joke]

Perhaps you people have been too busy looking for the 10 commandments and electing governors who seek to repeal "obamacare" to realize that you all need medical protection.
If you can not pay to clean up a tornado on your own, how can you pay to fight cancer or heart failure [very expensive,I STRONGLY ADVISE INSURANCE, IF YOU QUALIFY].

I'm not republican. If you understood politics you would not have assumed this. Please read the Constitution of the United States and compare what was written to what we have today. We no longer have a Government of the people, for the people. Our "Guvment" is no longer controlled by the people. It is controlled by Special Interests Groups (lobbyists), Large Corporations and Unions... depending on who is in office. Explain this to me...Why does the guvment regulate what you can and cannot put in your body and not regulate the price of gas? When gas prices are up, the price of all products and services go up. That effects the "General Welfare of the Citizens." Which is what our Government is supposed to protect!

while we are out here tring to put our lives back together, Lamar county is using funds wrong and made Fema change our rules, I once was proud to be a Lamar County citizen now a little concerned who our county workers are looking out for us or their pockets

I am not getting helped by FEMA because I was responsible enough to have renter's insurance. So not being able to get a dumpster from my trash collector is really another slap in the face during my family's tradgedy.
