"T-shirts will be available free – 450 have been ordered" !?!?!?!?!?!
Who in their right mind orders T-shirts to giveaway when folks don't have roofs over their heads, clothes to wear, or food to eat? EPIC FAIL!!! Money would have been so much better spent on storm victims.
If you would get your facts together before making such a statement, you would know that the Great Day of Service is planned months in advance. At that time we had no idea of horrible destruction or the greater need that we have now. This is an annual event...
The great day of service has been going on for several years now and is sponsored by the church. They order T-shirts every year for this event and this year is no different. I'm sure they were already ordered some time ago. You should find out about something before you bash it. People like you kill me. How bout instead of complaining, get out and help Saturday..and don't ask for a T-shirt.
I have been helping since it happened so take your own advice and stop bashing. I still think it is a 100% waste of money to buy T-shirts for an event like this... money that could have been so much better spent on something to actually help the cause... rakes? trash bags? shovels? shrub clippers?
You are sending out the wrong message - people should NOT have to get something for helping their own community - a "Thank you" and the great feeling of satisfaction of knowing you helped another is more than enough.
If you have been helping since the start then you should know that those who participate provide the things needed to do the work. People dont have to help unless they want to. My message to you is to stay home. Dont participate, its your choice. If you do plan of helping out please dont eat the food provided either.
Not real sure what the food has to do with a T-shirt. Not sure what my comment has to do with anyone helping or not helping but if your venting makes you feel better then so be it. I don't help because you tell me to or not to. I was raised to help folks when they need it because it's the right thing to do.
I will continue bring supplies. I will continue to donate supplies. I will continue to donate clothes, food & toiletries. I will continue to help. I will continue to think money wasted on T-shirts was indeed money wasted no matter when it was spent. Perhaps selling the T-shirts as a fundraiser to buy more supplies would have been a better idea than just buying and giving them away.
I sound so stupid now...I always speak before I know the facts and end up looking like a jack hole. But, I will not help Saturday cause I have to get my hair cut but would love one of those free t-shirts!!!!!!
I hope you enjoy yourself while relaxing and getting your hair cut. We lost almost everything, butI would never want you to come to my house and help, god forbid you might get your hair messed up....
If your money is not going toward the t shirts why should you care. I think it is a great idea to advertise and identify the people who are volunteering and are on your property.
Me too I totally agree, I live in one of the areas hit, and its a beautiful site to see all the loveing hearts willing to help... God Bless!!!!! I guess theres some people if it dont affect they just go on with their lifes...
Unlike some others, I'm not afraid to put my name with my comment. We as a community have so much for which to be grateful. Yes there was destruction. Yes there was loss of lives. But imagine how much worse it could have been. And now, we have over 400 people who are willing to donate their time and hard work to helping others. The community has raised a lot of money to help with the rebuilding process. Can't we just for once look at the positives instead of trying to tear one another down?
I recently moved to this town, yet have been a part of it for two years now and am PROUD to say I live here. I've never said that before. Barnesville, you should be too. Over 400 showed up and helped from one planned event and many more were out there as well on there own working and helping. So, Stand Proud Lamar, for help, we didn't look far. We help when the need is known, as we all take care of our own. We work and we lend, where some can't even bend, We love and we care, and all share the same air. We help and we give, so we all have a great place to live. Stand Proud Lamar. WE ARE A SHINNING STAR...
I would like to thank the group of volunteers who came out to help with the diaster that once was our yard and home this past weekend. We greatly appreciate the efforts, blood, sweat, and tears of your selfless help offered.
