Lamar County Primary School’s first Second Grade Primey Awards were held may May 10 at Lamar County Fine Arts Center, hosted by the school’s Rockin’ Technology Club.

The formal affair, in which everyone came out a winner, began with a trip down the red carpet, complete with paparazzi, just like the Grammys.

Who are the teachers teaching the Technology
Club ? It was the best program I have been to at the FAC. Those kids were awsome.

This was an awesome night! This type of event is what the FAC should advertise more of - get the community notified and see what the future generation is all about. Such talent and creativity at that Primary School!

It was a great night! Second grade parents missed out if they didn't get to come. It was an amazing show that our babies will remember as they go on to LCES. They were the movie stars, and they made us proud. Way to go Mr. Weaver and Mrs. Andrews! You two are some of the finest and most talented educators that the Lamar County School System has ever had. My child will certainly miss you next year!!

Ms. Andrews (computer lab teacher) and Mr. Weaver (Music teacher). My son was in the Technology club this year and loved it. The group was taught how to use digital cameras and videos, along with computer programs that could edit the digital images and videos they took. These two teachers did an outstanding job with this group of children and hope they continue this program for future classes.

Did they get to make any other kind of video projects? If so, where can we see what these kids have done? Are there any competitions for projects that they make to keep them ahead of surrounding schools? I cannot believe that these are just 2nd graders. This is so great that here in Barnesville our kids have this type of enrichment. Why aren't the other schools doing technology programs like this?

A group of kids at the middle school write, produce and deliver a ten minute morning news show each morning. Students are informed of school announcements and general news information each day on the televisions located in each room. This is avaliable on the local cable station. The high school students have produced several documentary style programs this year in their technology class. You see, when you read all the garabage on this web site about our local schools, written by members of the public with a "bone to pick," you really don't get a true picture of what is going on!

Amen! The biggest issue with our schools is there is a wide variety of abilities and desires. If a student WANTS an education and his/her parents are supportive & involved they can earn it.

You might want to just check with each school as to what technology based projects that students have done. My daughter did one of those projects and it won at state level. Her teacher told me and now it will be judge against other kids' projects from other states. I am so thankful that they have this type of technology to take a story, a project, or a song and make it into a movie. Technology is a great tool in helping kids learn.

My child was part of the RTC, and she loved it. They did alot more than just prepare for the Primeys. They learned how to use a green screen, create music for songs that they wrote, recorded themselves singing and put it all into videos. My daughter wrote her own song and it was entered in the media festival. She was told that it won at the state level and now it will be judged at the international level. If it wins there, she can go and attend a ceremony in Florida and learn more about technology. The RTC kids also did a webpage and it won too. Programs like this make learning so much more worthwhile for our kids. I am glad my child was part of this club as well as being raised here in Barnesville.

Blessings to Chloe as the poster child for Lamar County. We don't have to bow to Mother Nature. Chloe bends but doesn't break. Has anybody started a college fund for this brave girl? I'll make a donation!

my daugther was one of the star performers at the Primey's... It was her first time playing the fiddle in front of a large crowd like that and she did amazing. I am so proud of her and all the students involved. I appreciate Mr. Weaver allowing her the opportunity to do such an amazing feat.

Dakota was great. That takes a lot guts at that age. She plays at Sunny Grove and the folks are just delighted when she's there. What a sweet thoughtful child. You are a proud Mom.

Destiny Underwood, Dakota Massey, Chloe Penley, and Kenley Tyler all did a wonderful job showcasing their talents during the Primeys. Such talent in Lamar County!

The kids have enjoyed all the opportunities that RTC has allowed them this year. They are all so sad to be leaving to go to LCES. I think they would all stay at LCPS again just to be a part of RTC again. I wish they had this program at all the schools.... Thank you so much to Mr. Weaver and Mrs. Andrews for staring this program, they have done a truly amazing job.

Well let's see...LCES DOES have programs - Chorus, Drama, 4-H, etc., etc., etc...

So there ya go!
