On April 28 a devastating tornado ripped through Lamar County, changing the landscape and lives forever. Over 100 structures were damaged or destroyed.

Two people lost their lives; others were injured.

“Every resident felt the impact of the catastrophe in one way or another,” said Ken Green. “The community effort and support has been overwhelming since the storm but much more needs to be and will be done.”

Is this the kickoff for the County Commissioners to declare that Tornados are illegal?

Since this article was published in the paper, I have learned that the Lamar County Community Foundation is in charge of disbursing local relief funds. While the Chamber of Commerce has given us their blessing, they are not involved in it in anyway.

The county needs to expedite the removal of the roadside brush. It is an extreme fire hazard.

There have been several fires already out on Hwy 18. The situation can only get worse as the dead brush dries out even more!

The workers clearing the debris are working as fast as they can. The debris placed at the side of the roads throughout the county is astronomical. The workers can not work all over the county at one time. They have to take one road at a time and this is going to take time. We need to learn patience.

i havent heard of any of the bands they just listed.. are these just the locals?

Some of the performers are local, some are from the immediate area and some from the Atlanta area.

We tried diligently to find a top name act to healine the show but most were either touring and scheduled for that date or wanted too much money to come thus defeating the purpose of being a fundraiser.

I can assure you that all of the performers chosen are very talented and will put on a good show.

Hope you and everyone can make it out for a good day of music for a great cause.

I had no idea about the tornado hitting lamar county till just now! my heart goes out to everyone.your all in my prayers. I pray for you this will never happen again.since i live in tn i know how bad things can be when tornadoes hit.just know your in others thoughts and prayers.sincerly cindy h.ggggrandaughter of gideon barnes

im glad another entity will be in control of the raised funds since the chamber didnt bother to distribute the ones already donated.

This article from the school says what organization is going to get the money, it does not state it is just for tornado victims.

While I admit that article gives the impression that the Community Foundation is getting the funds raised by BENEFEST for dispersal as they fit, I can guarantee you that the monies will go directly to the tornado relief effort.
