The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded Barnesville $750,000 for the construction of Summers Field Park through the Transportation Enhancement program.

Funny! The state is so broke they are firing $12,000 a year workers and cutting other jobs. How many people could work for $750,000. We could do without this until the economy gets better. Look at where they are spending money. Last year I was a volunteer for a state Agency for 6 months. I saw them delete 4 jobs that were low paid positions Ok I guess to save money) but then they were going to replace the windows in a camp store (which could have waited and didn't really need replacing;and they had plans to buy a $30,000 tractor (they already had 4 and only 1 person left to operate it). Does this make sense to anyone? Maybe I am just not able to see the picture. I didn't really like Economics in college.

My Friend, Mindless out of control spending happens like this because WE the TAXPAYERS allow it to happen!! The "spenders" of our TAX money will not change their ways if they don't have to!! OR if the heat is never turned up on them!! Comrades, let's remember these CRIMES on election day!! Make the spenders ACCOUNTABLE for their actions!! You and I fellow citizens would lose our jobs for such shenanigans!! The spenders should be taught a lesson on election day!! And don't be fooled by the fools that are running for office!! Let them know that office is something to run away "from" rather than run "for!!" Remember, one can smile, and smile and be a villan!!

I noticed the Football Field really needs mowing, is that what it will cost to mow it? Also, somebody has taken the bleachers off the north side of the field. Someone should do something before it is all stolen, and nobody will know why.

So soon we forget gas is $4.00 a gal. and then they have to get to the border to truck in the workers that will get to do the job.
They work cheap so bottle water is expensive.

this is smart,lets fix up a place for the urban savages to do their dope dealing and steal from the productive citizens of socity,while roads all over the county look like a war zone (except for the ones the commissioners live on)

I wonder who's relatives/friends will get the contracts to do the work.

Here's an idea...just cut the grass and put up a "Park" sign. Then use the $750,000 to pay off some of the Water Authority's Debt.

If that is done we will be at the status quo of Politicians and Govt officials greasing their pockets at the tax payers expense.
This money is from tax collections of the state, so we have already paid it once. Also, somebody was whining about having a bike path. Summers Field is Roads make a great bike path, if the whiner will take a look.

This is a good exaple of what is wrong with the country today. Local politicians think state grant money is free, so they get grants and waste money on useless pet projects.

We will take 3/4 of a million dollars of money that could have been used for transportation for all state taxpayers and use it for a park about 25 people will use. It's like the sidewalks to nowhere.

The system is broken and this is a prime example of why.

How many people go to the Green Area next to where they have the rodeos. I don't know anyone except an occasional school class trip. Or use the walking trail around Gordon, not as many as use Thomaston Street and College Street. Hope they are not going to make a pond unless they are going to maintain it on the budget they already don't have.

Rode by Summers field today, the city was having the football field mowed. I wonder if the asst manager who always has his hands in his pockets was in charge. As they say if you always have your hands in your pockets, you arent paying attention, you are concerning yourseld with what your hands are doing.

I'm not knockin you folks for expressing your opinions to one another, but wouldn't your time be better spent signing a petition or making protest signs and calling local news channels and rallying up together to stand for whats right ! I agree with # 5, our roads in Lamar County and the City of Barnesville are in terrible condition thus leaving us with another burden. The cost of vehicle repair such as front end or four wheel alignments, suspension repair, and tire repair .

Roads were a SPLOST project on the SPLOST before the most recent one. It is just another example of misuse of funds that didn't go to the project and broken laws. Now we have a new SPLOST to misuse the funds with and more laws to be broken and nothing done about it.

That is just common verbage to rob the tax payer. Road Repair!

I'll be glad when we become more metro. then there will be much more to do. this city wont be as boring then. Maybe this will bring people down here. JUst MAYBE but i doubt it because barnesville isnt the wonderful city that everyone thinks it is. ITs boring. Barnesville is a horrible city

I don't know your age so I'll keep it clean . I'll tell you whats sup yo, if you do not like the little country town of B'ville then load up everything you have and move to the big ATL !!!!!!!!
