The Lamar County board of education last week set the school millage rate at 15.8, the same rate that has been in effect for five years, despite a drop in the county tax digest.

Yep!! The firing of 5 bus drivers (that make $7,000 a year and a few benefits) should about equal the $35,000 raise that our friend Dr T gave himself not too long ago. But wait there's more, later.
Why don't you think about how many people are employed with the school system vs. how many people are employed with the county? Anyone have any numbers?
At least the school money provides a day care service to the county's children (a few get educated as well), while I still have not figured out what the county does with my money other than mow the right of way twice a year.
How can it be that we spend more money per student to educate them than we ever have in the history of this country, and the public education system in this country is such a joke? It must not about money and facilities...that appears to be obvious.
Your observation is correct. However, neither you nor I are going to convince many people of this. For many people, this concept is way over their heads.
Oh by the way, Dr. T has several assistants (you can check their pay rate online), his buddy that oversees the bus shop that can't even drive a bus, and other support staff for the 4 schools in our county. Do we need all these people to over see the people that oversee our schools?
A lot of y'all are bitter. You did not go to school to get an Education and you would like to blame those that did. Well, I'm sorry buddy. You should have listened to your momma! More education pays! Get over it! I wish they would have raised the taxes this year. Then y'all would have been really mad!
I agree more education makes you more money. Look at all those smart educators in Atlanta who were so smart to make a $$$$$$$$$$ bonus on their ability to cheat. Only problem was they didn't get enough education to not get caught. Oh just for the record, I've got two bachelor degees and a masters. But the biggest education was my parents taught me to be honest and to have ethics. My early education was in a country school that focused on the 3 R's no music, no athletic no touchy feeling programs and thank the lord we did not need metal detectors, nor campus cops. The nations education system today is a cess pool supporting a lot of gargage in leadership roles in which the drain plug needs to be pulled!
i pay federal taxes and state along with local property and splost so its all tax money being wasted.the millage has not gone up but my taxes have gone up due to the reassessments.also the millage has not gone up but the systems budget has gone up every year, just wait till next year they will max it out because they will cry over the digest dropping.also #6 im not bitter and i am educated, dont type well and dont give a damn about grammer or spelling as long as i get my point across. a college education in most cases is the most overated thing out there. most people who cry out like you about the importance of a college education are people that get an education so that they can be leaches off of the taxpayer.i have a masters of ed. that i do not use because i can be more successfull in the private sector without sucking the american taxpayer dry.

It starts at home people. Some parents are just too busy having more kids to get more welfare.
Wake up Lamar Co. !!!!!
