Fine Arts Center director resigns

Scott Votaw, director of the schools Fine Arts Center, has tendered his resignation as of Aug. 29. Plans are to operate the theater without a director. He applied for a teaching job here, did not get it and is now working as a film and video production teacher at Griffin High School.

Our loss is Griffin's gain! Our school children could have learned so much from Scott! He is a very talented individual!

Thats a shame. He did a lot of work to get the FAC center to where it is today. I hope they end up putting someone in charge of it and it doesn't end up in a free for all and abused. Good luck in Griffin Scott.7

Tax payers paid for first class facility, the ignorants of our superintendent let a young andcapable leader of the FAC go to Griffin.

I hope you are not the same Hawkins that is my child's teacher. Should be "ignorance" and a space between "and capable."
Normally I am for smaller government...but if this man can teach AND manage the fine arts facility...Why not keep him?

The only Hawkin's in Barnesville in the School System does not teach. Are you sure about your child's teacher? But TRUBY needs to go!

This weeks poor leadership award should be given to our school superintendent. Every time Lamar County takes a step forward it takes two steps back cause ignarant decisions of people who do not know how to make the right decisions to protect the investment of the tax payers.

Good for you Scott. If Dr. Truby did not hire his friend for a 110,000 dollars a year. They probably could have found you a job.

Shame on you Dr. Truby. Scott was a big asset to this community! Message to Truby: Learn to value and appreciate your staff or you will lose them. Stop keeping all the money for yourself and help those in need!

It is. Truby got mad at Scott because nobody came to Frank Sinatra's concert. Truby used 70,000 dollars of tax payer money to fund the event and only go back 9,000 dollars he treated Scott so bad about something that he wanted. Glad for you Scott!

At least it wasn't spent on football this time. Lamar County Schools have greater need that could have been met with that kind of money. Why are the teachers and staff being furloughed if he has that kind of money to spend?

I think your figures are off. There is no way that the concert cost $70,000. Mabey $7000 at most.

No, Call the board office. 770-358-5891 It was way up in the 50,000 to 70,000 thousand dollar range. I was at the board meeting when he made his plea to do it in the first place.

Truby needs to open his eyes! He's going to let all the good ones go and this system is going to be in the same situation as it was before. I heard that some of his Central Office staff is looking for new positions. They say he gives them all extra task and treat them so bad.

This is absolutely scandalous! A talented young man has a job but sends out several applications investigating other career opportunities! One of those applications results in a job offer somewhere else! He gives 2-week's notice to his current job and prepares to move on to his next career step! My god, man!

I can't imagine this type of thing happening in other communities. How could Dr. Truby let this happen here!?!?

That's because he should have never let it happen! The same JOB Scott got in griffin is the same JOB they had open at the Lamar County high School. Scott wanted to work here! Get the facts before you open your pie hole!

I truly hope that all of you can stand up, take a deep breath and quit trashing good people. This is not good for my friend Scott or for our school system. It just didn't work out. Think before you type and realize that this kind of conversation is hurtful and bad for our hometown.

If you have visited the FAC you can't help but know what he has done. The entire system (electronics) was set up with his help. It would not be as grand as it is without him. If what they are saying is true, someone dropped the ball big time for not offering him the job he so well deserved. Best of luck in Griffin!

You trying running a facility like that. Everything has to run smoothly at every performance. There is a lot more to it than people think. I wonder who will run the mixing board since Scott was the only one that knew how to run it? Did all four people from each building get a lesson on all the technological equipment at the Fine Arts building?

Good grief - he had all ya'll snowed. Every time I hear it, it has had a tremendous amount of feedback, so either it's a fair system at best or somebody didn't know how to actually adjust it. Despite what they tell you there are several of folks in Lamar that actually know how to run a sound system.

I'm sure it was preset by Scott for them. Each slider goes to a different jack. Each performance has to be set up differently.

Get a grip people! There are more skilled A/V techs out there. The place never needed a director for what little use it gets.

Well four different people running it, is bound to get messed up somehow. I can see double booking. It should be one person handling it instead of four people from each building. Bad idea.

Somebody needs to find better things to do than to hijack a newspaper website. Get a life! You are acting like he was let go. Read the article; he quit! How do you even know he was qualified for the job he applied for? $70,000 for a concert in Barnesville? That's just nuts and I really hope no one actually believes that. Dr. Truby does a great job for our kids, and we works his tail off.
