When will the Commission learn many of us feel this is like jousting with windmills. We have been thru it once and it was a failure. I thought the Commission was elected to do this work not some empire builder.
Amen! If we are going to have a county manager we don't need a county commission. And if we're going to have a county manager. He or she should be elected.
thought we had put this topic to bed for awhile
we do not need a county manager we just need the elected one's to do their job put competent people in charge of each dept. Then you would not need a manager. BUT you have to let the person in charge also have the proper authority to hire and fire ,thats the problem now.
Just MY opinion NO TO A COUNTY MANAGER county cannot AFFORD IT
Typically in Georgia, the commissioners are supposed to set policy, plan for future public needs, enact ordinances for the general health, safety & well-being of the residents and levy taxes needed to finance the county government operation. They typically do not involve themselves (frequently not qualified to) in the day to day operations of the county.
The key for a successful candidate will be one with a proven track record. Looking at the candidates above, Jason Tinsley is probably slightly more qualified over Jerry Presley; I don't think any of the locals listed are truly qualified
You appear to be part of the County Commission since you are quoting information that the Commissioners believe is their job description. My opinion NO to a Manager, unless he is elected and the Commissioners all resign.
Wow last I heard the position was abolished back in the early 90's and there code shows for a County Administrator/County Clerk and they have to get legislature to put it back.
We really do need a county manager, but we don't need to hire one of the carpet baggers that moves from community to community. Please hire a local person who really cares about our county.
yes, but shes the friend of a friend in charge.when have qualifications mattered down there?why do we pay the girls in the annex for a job that an outside consultant is doing?
Have you idiots forgot that Gretchen STOLE from you? I rather pay an honest employee before employing a dishonest employee. And how do you know if any one is not qualified, have you seen their resume?
Wayne Patterson has been gone since dec. 2010 if I am correct. It seems the county has been doing fine without a county administrator. We are in a recession , possibly double dipped , so don't you think we need to hold on to this money that we are going to allow the commissioners to once again spend; and pay off other bills and cut back more until we are out of the red. Why are we spending money we don't have? That is what the problem is with the county, state and federal government. You commissioners need to get a backbone about you and cut positions that we can do without. The county has not grown that much. Go back 12 years and see from there til now what postions were added and why? It is all about county employees getting a paycheck whether their position is needed or not. You don't have the guts to cut. Afraid someone is going to get mad or have a temper tantrum. Get over it. I had to work part time jobs in the past when my hours were cut back. When money is not coming in successful businesses cut back. That is why government is not successful. They keep borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. The only thing government is successful with is creating ways whether it is sales tax, property tax, fire and ems fees, etc. to get more money out of our pockets. I am sick of it. Another thing. Try hiring someone out of the county when you do hire. That way they wont owe favors to the good ole boys.
Let's see..Gretchen had her hand in the till, Mr Patterson had his head in the sand and your complaining because someone with lots of experience was hired. Friends with the auditor..oh please quit whining.
Mr Roberts seems to fair very well in the conpensation field for a very small town such as Barnesville..... Now how does that work? The one with the gold makes the rules?

Not sure if Pike and/or Monroe are run any better, but at least it would be a different batch of crooks
