This is absolutely absurd. Am I reading this right? The BOR gave almost $800,000 for a library in Milner. What an absolute waste- this is an outrage!!!!!
good deal.its about time.now all the fat brood mares can sit in front of the computers while their illegitimate rug-rats run around aggravating everybody.
thats what i was thinking. i had entertained the thought of using the library but fear that it will be full of common trailer park trash and the others below them.
To the people who make ANONYMOUS comments, with the ignorant remarks of and uneducated person, you need to go to the library and read a good book, instead of playing dumb games on Face Book.
go in any library now and tell us what you see sitting in front of the computers.80% of the time its some FAT cow with a couple of rodent young'uns yacking and carrying on.all a library in miler will do is provide a place for the local bums to go sit when its to hot or cold out side
Well, the above comments don't speak very highly of us as a community, do they?
Perhaps instead of seeking out the negative in every single solitary thing that happens in Lamar County, we can find one little good thing to say.
Let's try this: perhaps one child who is exposed to the library under any set of circumstances, will develop a lifelong love of the printed word and will pursue his or her education simply because a book took that child into a world of wonder.
Such a waste of funding, Milner is half way between Milner and Griffin, both in the Pine system, what a waste. If you go in the Barnesville library the brood mares and baby daddies are camped out on the computers with very little monitoring and yes the children are there. Don't worry they will be given a free laptop by the guvment.
While 800k may be way more than is needed to spend on a small library who can argue that libraries are not needed?
Sadly lots of folks on this website.
Cost effective public libraries are a termendous resource and great value.
Arguments like this fail to reach the neo- neandrathols but if we give in to their thought we will all turn in to them.
Perish the thought.
There must be some kind of local connection between the BOR and Milner. Think about it- why would the BOR waste 800,000 on a library when there are two very good libraries within a 10 minute drive either way. Seems like the money (from a strapped state of GA) could have been used more effectively elsewhere. Oh, and by the way, I am not a Neanderthal; I am an educated person who can at least spell Neanderthal.
I'm not opposed to libraries. I think they serve a legitimate purpose in our communities. But I have to agree with the comment that this seems like a waste of taxpayer money when there are perfectly good libraries in Barnesville and Griffin only minutes away from Milner. What hasn't been mentioned is how are they planning on paying for operating this Milner Library? Getting the building built is just the beginning of the expenses. The Herald Gazette had an article this week on the City of Milner's budget and if I recall correctly it was just over $50,000. So, how are they going to operate the library? By getting the county to fund it, that's how. That's the only way the operating expenses can be funded. Our County budget is already a mess with poor decisions on past expenses and this would just be one more added to it. I just don't think it is necessary or a good use of taxpayer money.
Libraries help build productive communities!
