TSPLOST could bring $35.9 million to Lamar

The Three Rivers Regional Commission has held two public hearings on proposed road improvement projects to be paid for under a proposed regional transportation sales tax. The transportation roundtable will review the plans. With the tax, Lamar County would get a total of $35.9 million. To obtain the funds, citizens will vote on a special 1% sales tax for the TRRC Special Transportation Tax District, comprising several counties. For Lamar, that would mean about $21 million in funding designated for specific projects and some $14.9 million in unrestricted transportation funding.

A 4 lane from jackson to barnesville is understandable, but from thomaston to barnesville is just retarded, that stretch has plenty of passing lanes and 3 lane stretches to make travel convenient and a much lesser headache. How long is this project expected to last?

Not no but HELL NO!! I hope you people reading this realize that this is the states way of getting all the rural counties to help pay for metro improvements.

oh no, realize that projects will begin in metro atlanta, then all of a sudden the money will be gone and no roads in Lamar, no, no, no

how can they say specific projects when they don't even do that now? i thought when money was designated by splost it is only suppose to be used for that specific project? seems to me the county is given another slap on the wrist...

If you want to? 3 or 4 lane highway 341, 36, 18 and 41. Near Spalding County line, Upson County line and Butts County line or Monroe County line.

$35.9 million is a mighty big carrot to dangle in the face of voters. Hopefully most will see it for what it really is. Just another empty promise...

think they have messed with our roads enough...still trying to figure out the reason behind the mess on 341 that is going on now! they want to use splost for something how about a new high school!

I am 100% against this. NO, No, No!! Don't you love the way they generalize everything when it comes to money. Government is so good with this. I see some of the money is coming from the federal government. Isn't it humorous, when they say funded by the federal and state government. That is our hard earned money in taxes they are using for the funding. I guess Obama will brag on new jobs being created being he is throwing federal tax money in the pot for this road improvement.

The only way we are going to reduce some of our federal tax burden is to insure that more money is coming back to Georgia than what we are ssending there. Other states recognize this and its about time Georgia woke up and smelled the money.

Another ponzy scheme where we have to pay higher taxes and then there is no guarantee of 1) Getting the goods, or 2) Seeing any economic benefit, even if the whole project is built on time and on budget. Like most people, I got my property tax bill the other day and I know local business owners who have been assessed with several thousands in taxes too, and the thought of paying more when we already pay so much and get little in return, is frankly insulting.

yet, everyone knows that this will pass....people may talk a good game but they will either not go vote or will vote to pass it........just like the whole country is upset about congress, but there will be few representives voted out in 2012.....people talk a good game but will still vote for their elected officials....

I am not familiar with the Three Rivers Regional Commission.
Who are the members of this commission? Are they elected?
Who Are they Accountable to? If they are appointed, then they should all be fired, and replaced with elected persons. Just my opinion. Who can give the the particulars on this Organization?

As much as I hate to admit it this is what Lamar Needs! We need revenue in this county! I mean all of you are against it but it is bound to happen, As we are apart of the Atlanta-Metro area.

lol that round about in culloden is about the dumbest waste of tax dollars. we don/t need 36 4-laned and what are they doing on 341 ?
