Local firefighters and units from the Georgia Forestry Commission were battling a hot brush fire on Veterans Pkwy in Barnesville beginning about noon.
UPDATE: At 3:15, the fire had jumped the four-lane and was burning off the northbound lanes just south of the Hot Shot store. Fire chief Steve Andrews was calling in additional personnel. Also, a hazmat drill set for tonight has been postponed until Tuesday due to manpower requirements at the fire scene. AVOID THE AREA IF POSSIBLE!

Yes Hwy 341, across from the Chevron. I knew something was going on because the traffic got real heavy. And the smell has gotten worse than a regular pile of burnt leaves. I hope they put it out and everybody is okay.

Veterans Pkwy is the same as Hwy 341 and stretches from the new bypass(MLK) on the southside north to the area between the Hot Shot and the 36 bypass to the north.

Tornado, forest? I guess a flood is all that is left. Hopefully the fire will burn away some of the tornado damage.

Why don't you stop complaining and give a helping hand. Then you will see that there is a lot more to it than just "putting it out". By the way, while you are complaining don't forget that the majority of the firefighters there were probably VOLUNTEERS on their own personal time.

So, who was the genius that set the brush pile at the county barn on fire last night?

By Georgia law this is the purpose of the fire department. Protecting your home and business is a spinoff.

More flames by the southbound lane have started back up. about 3 small fires had started back up. I hope these don't get out of control.
