Over the past three weeks The Herald-Gazette received mixed reviews for the three-part series on methamphetamine – the use, abuse, cost, and destruction of the drug that has wreaked deadly addiction and destruction in our community. Some readers were outraged that we would include such vicious images while others were happy we dared to identify a problem exists in Barnesville-Lamar County.
1. Were you aware that meth use, creation, and distribution are an issue in Lamar County?
2. Do you feel law enforcement in Barnesville and Lamar County is doing enough to expose the drug scene accurately?
-from all the recent headlines...it seems that they may be starting to crack down some
3. Did you think The Herald-Gazette articles were current, relevant, and well written?
4. Would you be interested in seeing The Herald-Gazette do other series on varied topics? If so, what topics specifically?
-yes. knowledge is power! any topic that needs to be addressed. drug use is a great one. some parents may not know what to look for in their teens and early 20's children.
5. How can The Herald-Gazette better serve you?
-you guys are doing a great job. i'm not even from barnesville, but i read the on-line version because i like you guys so much!
6. Are you a subscriber to the newspaper?
-no. see above answer.
I too am not from Lamar county, but through recent events have been following these threads.
Knowledge is power,If you aren't aware that something is going on,then you are powerless to change it.I have been totally amazed that this big a war was going on there,But now that lives have been lost,it has to be addressed.Sad that it has to come to that but something has to be the cause for change.I have come to know that on a daily basis God shows us perfect examples of how to live our lives as well as how NOT to live them.Lamar County you are being sent this message on a grand scale,It's up to each individual as well as the collective as to what you do with it...May God guide...Turmoil is a sign post that change is needed.
One problem I see is that our community will blog, blog, blog about stupid stuff, however this blog has about our meth problem and your survey has been up for a while now with only 6 post. I am beginning to think no one cares about our drug problem. If it was someone everyone knew that got caught with drugs this blog would have blown up with all of the gossip blogs.
1.Yes. Meth is problem in all rural areas of the state.
4.yes. REview of the property tax assessment.
Review of spending by school board
and County Commission. Review
of performance of schools and
by someone other than school
5.Lose the right wing articles and try for middle of the road. Print something besides
religious announcements. Section two reads like a church bulletin. There must be other interesting topics that could fill your pages.
