Trojan head coach Jason Strickland has been named NFL Coach of the Week by the Atlanta Falcons. His undefeated Trojans have clinched the Region 4AA title and close out the regular season Friday when they host the Monticello Hurricanes.

I remember just a few years ago when you couldn't find a Trojan T-shirt in this town. We couldn't fill the stands. And there was little pride. Look at us now! Coach Stick has done an amazing job with our boys and filled our town with Trojan Pride. Thank you to all the LC coaches for all you do. Congrats Coach!

I totally agree. We had to make shirts for spirit day because unlike the neighboring counnties, there weren't any school t-shirts around for us to purchase. When I asked my kids if they wanted to go to a game, they would make 'they will just loose again' comments. I am really proud of how the team is doing and our family is very proud of their efforts as well as support them.

High school football enhances community pride and Coach Strickland, his staff and players have done a great job in bringing that here.
If you are not a member of Thunder Nation it's time to jump on that train and enjoy the ride.

we may not be Buford but we ain't Pike County either...

I am glad we are not Buford. They have turned a purely innocent high school sport into a big money program by recruiting coaches and blue-chip players to give them an edge over everyone else. I would rather come out to support hard working honest kids get better and better as they learn and play the game. Let us not forget the fun of playing the game without the pressure form some coach, who is auditioning for a college or NFL job. I have seen how the people are in Buford: The focus of the whole town is that football team. Not the same way we support our team. I mean even the recreation league in Buford is a big-money show and the kids all want to play for the high school team one day. It is not a guaranteed progression for them, since Buford looks far and wide for the best players. Most of whom had never been to that part of Geogia before their parents were propositioned to relocate..

FIRST OF ALL CONGRADULATIONS COACH AND THE WHOLE PROGRAM. Next, why not be like Buford, sounds like you are one of these whiners that say ,"oh if we could just support the science team, or the drama team like this" We are headed in the right direction , just like Pike Co was a few years ago until all the soccer moms and baseball parents got p. o. at Coach Busbee.Lets face it , its great when a whole town supports its h.s. team, Lamar is begining to get there, lets not curtail that with talk like we dont want to be like Buford. If youve ever been to Valdosta on friday night , or any town in Texas , you will see what its supposed to be like. Let me also say that we should try to have a recreation department like Buford and Valdosta, The directer is doing his best but as usual whiny parents are out to make it a joke.The whole program here at Lamar Co. is definately headed in the right direction due to great coaching, the hardest working A.D. in the country, and a bunch of good hard working kids, and the begining of some community support. If you want to be like Pike cCounty go over there to losersville.

Why are you taking such a hostile tone about my comment? I am a loyal supporter of our football team and would never want to be like Pike County. The point I tried to make was that Buford has assembled a "Dream-Team", by recruiting players and coached from far and wide. Somewhere in that process, the purity of the game of high school football has ben lost. Yes, I have lived in Valdosta and many other places across the country. I am still glad that our team is comprised of kids who are doing the best that they can rather than having a roster of super players that have no ties to the community. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH..

by saying "We may not be Buford" I did not mean I wanted to be like them as far as their questionable ethics of recruiting players, etc. I was merely alluding to their success. Buford recently used SPLOST money to open a huge recreation complex to begin training its football players at a young age. I have forever felt like our coaching staff should have a hand in developing our youth in the various recreation programs in order to have them more ready to play in the Trojan system when they get to middle school and then high school. Dan Pitts started doing it in Monroe County years ago. Look at the success of Mary Persons' football over the years. Tommy Perdue did it in Thomaston and was very successful at R.E. Lee. I think our board of education would be more than happy to pump some much needed money from its slush funds into the local recreation department if our coaches were allowed to train the volunteer coaches and help with the preparation of our kids. I'm not just talking about football, I'm talking every sport. We have extra-curricular programs available to help with academics, why not have the same with athletics? I am a lifelong resident of Lamar County and alumni of the school system here and am very proud of the direction we are heading in sports and academics. I want to see us on top system wide. WE ARE LAMAR...GO BIG BLUE!!!
