Greenco expected to get extension

In anticipation of a Nov. 17 meeting with Greenco owner Tim Lesko and members of the DeKalb County commission, Lamar County commissioners are expected to take an amended agreement before Judge Tommy Wilson tomorrow or Thursday that will allow Greenco to stay open through at least March.

Good luck with this, Barnesville. Tim Lesko's promises mean diddly squat to me, as he has already proven he is not a man of his words. The smell was supposed to be resolved years ago, and had they fixed the problem then, Greenco wouldn't be moving.

Greenco knew long ago it was going to leave Lamar, why the extension is even being contemplated we will never know, they should have ceased operating and started preparing for the move months ago. Instead of clearing up, they chose to take in the animal waste from Emory...anything to make a few more bucks, in the meantime the people of Lamar have to tolerate the stench and flies, I, for one totally agree with Nancy Thrash, it is a hazard to our health and they should be made to vacate their premises in November

Greenco byproducts are great for gardens. It's not Greenco that stinks, it's the Lamar County Landfill. Don't turn industry away! Let Greenco stay!

The landfill has contained their odors. Greenco's stink permeates the air, this didn't start until Greenco came on the scene. You are the F'd up dumbass! Since you are not affected Greenco's stink, bug off A -hole!

Nancy speaks out of both sides of her mouth. It is ok for her to vote to stop burying farmers dead animials. I guess that isn't considered a health hazard. The truth is she doesn't think for herself. She just follows the other sheep.

Looks like the Hardwicks are still retaliating over him losing. Nancy Thrash is the best commssioner this county has had in years. From what I observed, she checks info out before she makes a judgement call. She has more backbone than all the other commissioners put together. She definitely does not cater to the "good ole boys." As far, as burying your horse, dog, etc. on your property. It's your property idiot. Are you planning on selling it for compost? The lab animals and rodents have all kinds of diseases tested on them. I thought they were disposed of in an incinerary. I sure don't want them in Lamar County at a compost facility. Thanks Nancy for speaking out for the "common sense" citizens of the county.

Everyone in Lamar county knows who you are. You are just upset because the taxpayers in Lamar county are no longer having to foot your bill and you are no longer in the position to make them do it.

I feel the Judge should stand by his judgement. Reason being, there has been ample time to stop this operation, and find another location to move to. It appears they are trying to make the Judge look foolish by forcing him to vacate his judgement. These people obviously are pie in the sky folk, and wish to have there operations at other persons expense.

okay if its the damn landfill that stinks then why is it that you never smelled it before greenco got here. yes it does sound like somebody is going to get paid off.I hope some of the smells and the diseased flies make it to their houses.

This just proves that our commissioners, including my commissioner Nancy Thrash, don't give a crap about the citizens of this county. I will do my best to vote Nancy out, and I hope others will also remember this come election time. Five Points Rd. is still a mess from the water system install, the front of my property is almost unmowable. Wake up people, see the truth.

Your present commissioner was not the commissioner when the water lines were installed. You need to make a call to your former commissioner and thank him. If the water lines were never installed , you would not be having the problem.

Nancy WAS the commissioner when they installed the waterlines in front of my property this year. When do you think she took office? I have been in contact several times during the summer about the poor work in front of my property, and it is still a mess. I am not, and will not hook on to the system, I don't want the water.

My water lines were installed years ago, right before the market went down the tubes. I am not on the water lines either. From my understanding, that is why the county gave up the water authority, because they would go bankrupt not being able to pay the bill to the company that installed the lines. Of course we all know it was greed on the part of the commissioners when this agreement was met between the commssioners and the company. It was set up so land developers and builders could invade Lamar County with subdivisions turning it into another Clayton and Henry county. Thank God that didn't happen. Of course, people have been moving here since 2006 to get away from Henry and Clayton. I thought the construction of the water lines had been brought to a halt being they couldn't pay. Oh well, guess certain commissioners and the Mathews didn't get to line their pockets with millions of dollars.

It doesn't matter who is your commissioner. The contract that was signed by the previous commissioners override the present commissioners. A contract is a contract. If the company that installed water lines was not allowed to continue installing the lines per agreement on the contract, the county would have been sued. Contact the county or maybe the city now that the county water authority has been dissolved and read the contract. Now that the city has acquired the county water authority maybe the contract is no good.

My aunt lives in Milner. She had a problem with water in her yard and she called Commissioner Thrash. That day, Commissioner Thrash drove to her home and checked out the problem. She had the problem taken care of by the end of the week. Maybe you need to make a phone call.

My family is one of the "neighbors" affected by the stench emanating from Greenco. I take offense to the statement made in this article that the neighbors are "celebrating". That is such a gross misstatement. By definition, celebration means "To observe (a day or event) with ceremonies of respect, festivity, or rejoicing". I am sick and tired of the media and and Greenco/their employees and other industrial park businesses/employees accusing us of being vigilantes or being happy about this. Please people---know ALL THE FACTS before you make such misstatements.

It is my hope, Judge Wilson not accept the ammendment by the Commissioners, and Stand by his Judgement. I feel that is to the good of the local population, if he does that.

Its simple... VOTE out every single person that has served office over 1 term,force limited appointment positions, eliminate "good-ol-boy" . Power corrupts... look it up.
