Just after lunch hour the now infamous corner of Grove Street and GA-7 played witness to another car accident.

When did we start calling this highway Ga-7?

It is called GA-7 on the police scanner because this road is highly confusing if you are following a map (depending on the year it was printed). It is also 19/41 but then there is old 19, old 41, US Highway 41, etc.

I believe the switch took place around 1987.

If you want to get really "old school" about it it is Dozier Hill Road.

I know the DOT refers to it as GA 7; US 19 in Zebulon is called GA 3; they refer to all the highways by their GA number, as even the US hwys and interstates have a GA number. I think I-75 is called GA 401 or GA 410.

What difference does it make what the name of the highway or street is? The question should be , how many people have to get killed or injured before something is done about that danagerous intersection.Already three children have been killed at that intersection, one on his twelth birthday. I think getting something done about that is more important than trying to figure what the original name of the highway is.

If people would pay attention to driving then these accidents would not happen. I honestly cannot understand why there are so many wrecks there. The view is not obstructed in any way. You can plainly see north and southbound traffic. I just think people are in too big of a hurry, talking on the phone, etc....or maybe they are people that are just about blind and dont need to be driving.

that is rediculuous. Hope everyone will be back to 100% but i dont see any excuse as to why this keeps on taking place. The red light at ingles seems to be a frequent place also.

I did notice that one driver had a bluetooth headset on. My personal feeling is that drivers think they can "gun it" across to Grove and rarely make it. Bottom line is drivers need to pay far more attention to driving and far less attention to other distractions.

I have 9 family members that go through or turn on to this intersection 2-3 times a day. I am concerned about the safety of these special people and we talk about being careful when crossing. The problems as I see it is there are a lot more cars on this road now with the expansion of Gordon. At certain times of the day it is very difficult to cross the road without first going to the middle then waiting for another break in the traffic. In the summer the grass gets high and cuts down on the angle you can see cars coming. The speed limit is 55(but really 65-70)through this area. My suggestion would be to reduce the speed limit at the intersection of Ga 7 and old 41, keep the grass cut and do an updated traffic study to determine if a light is needed. Maybe if people had to stop at Grove St it would slow them down for the Ingles light.

I completely agree with the traffic light. I have thought for a year or more that a traffic study needed to be done at that intersection. Perhaps you could contact the DOT for Lamar County and inquire about such?

A traffic light would only cause more accidents . That street and 4-lane road has been there for years. Accidents happen and it is going to be that way no matter what. Put a red light up and see what kind of accidents u have with big trucks not knowing it is there and cant stop in time.

I have lived on Grove Street for 13 years. So many times I have seen people stop at the stop signs then sail straight on across all four lanes and the middle intersection without taking a second look. They have barely missed the vehicles coming toward them in the second set of two lanes! Have you ever noticed that an entire tractor trailor truck can disappear for a second in the section between the front windshield and the side window while you are looking out? This is especially true if the section seperating the windows is wide. Also, I have seen so many people stop in the oncoming lane instead of at the stop sign.

The most dangerous intersection is the Hwy 36 bypass & Hwy 41. 18 wheelers pull out to turn to go southbound & block northbound side completely. I've seen it numerous times. Not to mention they will pull out in front of you. It's a wonder there hasn't been more accidents & deaths at this intersection. If a traffic study & red light is needed, I would have to say that this intersection at Hwy 36 needs it more that at Grove St & GA 7.

This intersection is supposed to be getting a red light from what I've heard. May take years for it to happen though.

This has nothing to do with the news stories. I find it very disturbing that the newspaper would allow such foul language and illiterate comments. We know children of all ages now use the internet and for school purposes look at the news articles. We should tone our language or it should be censored and not allowed to go on line.

I live on the Yatesville Road, this intersection is also dangerous. It also crosses 4 lanes but the 2 west bound lanes are coming out of a curve, and if you are coming from College drive and attempt to turn left onto Yatesville Rd and there is already a vehicle waiting for on coming traffic while sitting in the median, there is no place to go but stop in the left lane of traffic. There needs to be a left turn access lane to turn left onto Yatesville Rd before someone is rear ended.

I read newspaper. A fire hydrant on Yatesville Road, Freeman Road, Country Kitchen Road, Bypass Road, Abbott Road, McCollum Road, Wilmont Road, Ritchie Road and Hwy 341 South.

all you have to do is PAY ATTENTION TO TRAFFIC... that's like at the hotspot that road that merges into 19/41... there is a YIELD SIGN THERE.... it's not a ramp.... you have to LOOK AND SEE IF TRAFFIC IS COMING.... nothing is more stupid than someone almost getting hit because they did NOT yield then they flick YOU off because you have the right-of-way...

If the editor is not going to allow comments about the Morehouse Chief - why don'y you just remove it all? It is old news now. It makes no sense to have something up that can't be commented on. Think about it. Its just taking up space.

I understand what you are saying 'gary' but the reason it remains is for archive purposes. I am not against commenting nor do I like to close them off. But there were too many that came with slander, threats, and bigotry. We had to remove those and then shut off the ability to add to it.
