Call it an occupational hazard, but I can’t look at the Occupy Wall Street protesters without thinking,“Who parented these people?”
As a culture columnist, I’ve commented on the social and political ramifications of the “movement” - now known as “OWS” - whose fairyland agenda can be summarized by one of their placards: “Everything for everybody.

And there will always be those in the crowd who dilute the message because they're clowns or druggies.
There will be those in the crowd who subvert the message because they're violent or crazed.
So continuing criticizing some people who are saying it's time our gov't began to be for those of us who work and build the value in this country rather than the corporate special interests and wealthiest 1% of the country. (Want an example--The Koch brothers of Tex invested over $5million in the Wisconsin Governors race and their return on investment--destruction of the teachers union--yeah those high living 50K a year lolligags that are dragging our economy into the pits)
Just remember all of you, YOU are not the 1%, you will never be the 1% even if you become a football player or a big American Idol, or even if you work and build a small business. You won't be hiring hundreds of lobbyists, you won't be hob nobbing with the wall st bankers--you will still be subject to the tight credit caused when the manipulators take their profits. WE, YOU OUT THERE COMMENTING, ALL OF US are victims of the manipulation and control of the mega corporations and "old money" ultra wealthy who have manipulated the so called free market to their own benefit to the detriment of the overwhelming majority of the people in our country--including those of us who have worked, saved and tried to "do the right thing". Just look at the healthcare issue and the 10s of millions spend on bribing (sorry, LOBBYING) by the Health Insurance and Pharmacy industries. Now I am not a supporter of the whole National Health Care (certainly not it's current implementation that will enrich--you guessed it, that's right--the Insurance and Pharmaceutical industries---Odd how the benefits goes to the ones who invest in the lobbying huh?)
Yeah, you don't like the hippies. I agree the Occupy movement is not very coherent in their message and prattle on about pie in the sky, kumbaya let's all take care of one another dreams---BUT they also point out a REAL issue with our country---Our government has sold the working people of this country out--PERIOD. It's not just the welfare recipients who are stealing your, (heck MY), money, it is the big corporate interests and 10 million dollar bonus takers that slime their way out of paying a fair tax share and then it's me and you, the one's who cannot afford teams of accountants or millions for lobbyists who pay the bill.
I know you love watching Fox and feeling superior to some in our society. But just remember when the anteater is looking down at the ants they all pretty much look the same, even if one has a better anthole than the other one. And you are no different than that ant next to the Anteater who is higher up the food chain than you. And there is nothing wrong with being an ant--it's something to be proud of--unless you all scatter and run alone so the Anteaters can pick you off at their leisure.
The real problem is Big Corporate Special interests and the ultra wealthy. An article from Forbes Magazine (that bastion of liberal ideology no less!) says that 60% of the wealth from Capital Gains in this country was enjoyed by less than 1/10 of 1% of our people. Yes, around 300,000 of the 300 million citizen of the US got over 1/2 of the capital gain profits while way more working people (not just slackers) lost their homes and jobs. And guess what these people pay in tax on this income--15% at the most--thanks to Bush's administration's change. This was pushed through due to the propaganda of how regular folks will lose their estates---of course they never mentioned these estates had to be really large to get taxed or that the real beneficiaries were those 1/10 of 1% who really save big.
I believe the top income tax rate cutoff should be raised from 250K per year to 1 million a year. That would allow the working people who create businesses or work hard to get ahead to continue to benefit from the Bush Tax Cuts (which just to remember all of you who don't remember were supposed to run out a couple years ago--so just to be clear: WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT A TAX INCREASE).
I guess it just boils down to what you believe is "right". I believe people who work all their lives, save their money and try to do the right thing should be supported by our government--not the mega corporations and super wealthy and not the non workers who are able bodied. You seem to believe the problem is all with the working poor--to bad that isn't the real problem.
Just remember Mr Ant, you are not an Anteater no matter how hard you imagine you are.
They want jobs but aren't out looking for jobs. They are preventing people who have jobs from going to work. They are blocking businesses who are legitimate from conducting their business.
They want, but aren't willing to do. They want it given but aren't willing to work for it.
I don't want my hard earned money given to someone simply because life is hard. It's just as hard on me as on them. I getting very tired of all the gimmes out there. Gimme, gimme gimme. Get a job even if its flipping burgers.
Maybe those of you who criticize this movement because of a few young people's pie in the sky dreams should take just a second to think for yourselves and answer this question, "Do you think that middle class working Americans should suffer while the Wall St Bankers, Multi-national corporations and Trust fund babies corrupt the system and take advantage of the rest of us?" Hey, if you believe it is OK that these companies were bailed out by your and my tax dollars while giving their execs 100s of millions of dollars of bonues (would you like to give the CEO of Bank of America a $20 bill for a bonus this year??? or maybe a $50 gift card in the stocking of Exxon execs???--because that is what our government did) then I understand your criticism of the Occupy Movement. You want to deflect attention from the REAL ISSUE-CORPORATE CORRUPTION OF OUR GOVERNMENT AND CLASS WARFARE BY THE ELITE AGAINST THE MIDDLE CLASS.
It boils down to this. Do you believe it is OK for the rich to get richer while folks who have worked their entire life lose their homes and struggle to make ends meet, THE PLAYING FIELD IS NOT LEVEL. SIMPLE. Either you are with the working people of this country or you are with the rich manipulators who buy our politicians with their campaign contributions and lobbyists.
I fully agree with you there are to many freeloaders in this country. For me, I would have no problem letting them starve. But the people who have most affected me and the working people I know are the Fat Cat bankers and multi national corporations that send jobs overseas and came close to destroying our economy all the while piling millions in bonuses into their wallets and buying off one politician after another.
It IS TIME for a revolution in this country so our corrupt, bought-out government starts taking care of all its citizens not just the ones who can afford to pump millions into lobbying and campaign contributions.
That's what the Occupy Movement means! And it angers and deeply saddens me to hear other working Americans criticize these people who have found, as I and many believe, there is no help coming from this government for us because it is bought and paid for by the special interests.
So the right wing propaganda cries about class warfare--THERE SHOULD BE CLASS WARFARE! IT IS WRONG HOW ALL OF US ARE SUFFERING SO A VERY FEW GET OBSCENELY RICH. There is NOT a level playing field.
Wake up Ant! Hang with your own, be what you are and be proud to be an Ant. You can call yourself an Anteater, but you're still an ANT.
PLEASE THINK about this a bit. Turn off your TV, don't listen to the news for a day or two. Just think for yourself, WHAT IS "RIGHT"?--to support the vast majority in our country (including those of us who work) or to enrich a few at the expense of the rest of us. What is America supposed to stand for? And remember, the Boston Tea Party interrupted business because that is the ONLY WAY THEY COULD GET A CORRUPT GOVERNMENT'S ATTENTION! We should all be on the street or better yet voting down any politician who continues to support the ultra wealthy and mega corporations over WE THE PEOPLE.
I'm just a working class guy and see most things from that point of view.
No apologies just part of the mainstream.
How about you?
