Mom appreciates Empty Stocking Fund

When Marjorie Chambley moved to Barnesville three years ago, she lost her job right at Christmas and the Empty Stocking Fund came through for her children. Marjorie expected to be on her feet by now, but the rug was pulled out from under her when her beloved brother, Chris Chambley, was shot to death in June 2010.

I dont see anything wrong with the picture. They are beautiful children whose mother is haveing hard times. Years ago my family was blessed by another who adopted them for christmas if it had not been for them my three children wouldnt of had a christmas. Now I donate as much as possible to other children.Have a heart.

My sister died, God rest her soul but somehow I still have to work. And that was only a couple of months ago. I guess my bills don't stop.

Shame on whomever posted the first comment. Why are people so heartless? I see a struggling mother of three children. I hope this mother will get back on her feet and pay it forward by donating to ESF in years to come.

You explain it to a child just like you explain anything else. If a parent cannot afford to provide all the extra's for their children and friends and family are not able to help then reality is reality. My ex and I divorced when my children were small - he was not the father. I was working and paying bills. We were struggling. They got a few small things thanks to friends and family. Nothing like the Christmas I was able to give them the previous year. We lived thru it and in some ways it was a good thing. My children know the true meaning of Christmas and the meaning of earning our own way. Reality is something that all children should learn. We played the Santa game - but my children knew that the reason their friends might be able to get more or less than them was because Santa might deliver but mom had to pay the bills.

thanks for being a true mom,as for me i awake one morning early in the morning left with two small children.i knew from that day on i had to provide for my two.and that i did.christmas was still christmas with some yrs an empty tree.but we was always a happy family.their grown now and have children.be thankful you have healthly kids and teach them the real meaning of christmas.

When Jim, Gail and I were small. Santa always brought us some fruit, candy and 1 board game to share. The more fortunate neighborhood children got scooters, bikes, dolls, etc. Do you know where everyone ended up within two hours of waking on Christmas morning? At the Tolley house, waiting to get their play at the game. We had something in that little shack, without indoor plumbing, that money cannot buy. We had sibling love, we had the real God based Christmas Sharing Spirit.

In too many cases, Christmas has become commercialized, artificial, and competitive.

Keep Christ in Christmas and have a merry one.
Don't enjoy your holiday and holiday tree.

Enjoy your CHRISTmas Day and admire your CHRISTmas tree.

All I want for Christmas is the old 54 year old Parcheesi Board that I enjoyed so much.

She lost her job and then hasn'e been able to work since a family death. Yet she has had a roof over her head, food, and a car. She lost the home to bonding someone out of jail.
Tax records prove that.

Her children have now had three free Christmases and someone from Lamar County is allowing them to live for free in a house in Griffin. Maybe I should quit my job and ask for help too.... Lesson here: DO NOT have more children than you can provide for...by the way, where is(are) daddy or daddies?????? hmmmm

Even with a chronic health condition, I am blessed enough to have a job and a home.
Guess what? I wasn't a blessed child. But that was then, this is now.

I do think that fathers need to be held accountable for the children that they beget, not just for material needs, but because children need to grow up believing that their dad loves them and was there for them. They also have to learn self sufficiency and independence, that the world owes them nothing, and you get nothing unless you work for it. You sure value something more when you work for it.

you know it is the mothers that get out here and work thier butt off to do for thier kids that get turned down for help and some like the above just wants live handed to them and people to feel sorry for them i say sorry for your brother ,your home and your job but them are your kids you layed down to get them now stand up and provide for them

Ahem, the phrase "what's wrong with this picture" does not mean literally that there is a photograph with a problem. It is a metaphor or allegory (not an English teacher here obviously) The knee jerk responses are so funny! Any reference to race came from YOUR mind. It came from YOU. Be ashamed.
