My heart goes out to his wife, daughters and family. Ronnie was an extremely nice man. He had such a pleasant personality and a laugh that was contagious. Standing almost 7 foot tall, he had to 'watch his head' at nearly every door he entered and seeing him get into a car was almost comical because he was so big. Beyond being a big man, Ronnie had a huge heart. He was a man who stood behind his strong religious beliefs, even during times of great grief. I pray that God will give his family peace during this terrible loss and that they will be able to take great pride in the fact that Ronnie touched to many lives in such a positive way leaving nothing but pleasant memories.

To think this could've been my father- :( This just breaks my heart to shreds. Dad- Matt Garrison- if you are reading this I need you to wear your police vest at all times, don't speed to any calls, especially if it's raining or if you are on the interstate. It's not worth me loosing you. I wonder if it has anything to do with police officers having laptops in their vehicles?

No it had nothing to do with the computer in the vehicle. But your right all should wear their vest and seat belt and slow down.

Ginger, that was so very nice of you to say such wonderful things of this man. I did not have the pleasure of knowing him but I'm sure he was an honest caring man with a big heart. You touched my heart with such a powerful message to his family. That was very nice and thoughtful of you. God Bless his family and may he rest in peace.

Indeed a family has lost a good man and the community has lost a good officer. I have worked with Ronnie in the past and knew of his love for his family and people in general. May his wife and children remember all the good memories of his life and know that he will forever be watching over them.

Butts Co. law enforcement agencies, the District Attorney's office, and court officials in Butts County have established the Ronnie Smith Memorial Fund at United Bank. Anyone wishing to assist Ronnie's wife and children can go to the any branch office, mention the fund, and make a deposit.

I played basketball with Ronnie in France and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and children.
