This has to do with the video that popped up yesterday. It’s 40 seconds, and it shows four Marines standing above the bodies of some dead Taliban.

Peeing on them.

Those "fine examples of American manhood" put every single member of the armed forces stationed over there in greater danger by posting that online. Does Mr. Lonsberry really think that terrorists are shaking "in their sandals" after seeing this video? Of course not. If anything, it helps them recruit new people to step up and replace the ones who die in battle. To critcize the leaders of our armed forces for speaking out against it is just ignorant. They. Had. No. Choice. To do otherwise looks like the country endorsed it and, again, it makes things worse. Do things happen in war that we don't want to know about? Yep. But is it right or smart to show it to the whole world? No. Practically, it is counterproductive and endangers the men and women overseas. Morally, it cheapens us all and makes us no better than the enemy who thinks nothing of doing it to our people.

PS. Terrorist, by definition, don't need any provocation to perform terrorist acts--they are terrorist. Last I check, peeing on some dead terrorist was not equal to cutting the heads of live people, but maybe you see it that way.

Have we forgotten a video of a young journalist screaming while his head was being hacked off ON CAMERA?
Can anyone explain why we hang on to the myth that we are genteel here when it comes to war?
The lesson to be learned here is to keep your video to yourself, young men, because the brass sure will toss you in front of that dreaded bus in order to follow some sort of weird credo that only the tree-huggers care about.

I'm currently in Iraq and as a U.S soldier this is not how we want to represent the great nation of the U.S. Regardless of how we feel we must take the high road as as U.S. citizen or soldier. I see the people in this county that thump there bibles don't see it this way. We have to be above the other countries that embrace this type of behavior. The last time I checked we are a loyal and god fearing country unless we decide to adhere to the bible when it applies to us. Please we are more intelligent than this. I'm over here as I type this response and please let's be civil and the more mature country and and not accept this type of behavior. I don't believe we should punish these Marines to a harsh penelity however, we have to stand for something other than ignorance.

I have total respect for the men and women who serve in the military. Especially since it is elective rather than a draft process.

BUT...I will never believe you are a U S soldier or in Iraq. The military personnel are proud of their name. They would never sign on as Anonymous. Especially from Iraq.

Lose the cameras and keep pissing.

If you understood the military as it relate to current events in the media, we are not to associate our names to matters such as this because of what we do. We are not allowed to give and opinion via any social networks or in public. I have no reason to lie about what I do because I'm very proud to serve. I just hate for civilians that never served and sit on there couches all day give opinions and can't speak intelligent on matters and has so much hate in your heart. I do return on Feb 4th and I will be glad to put a face with these writings. I have family in Spaulding county however, I'm station at Fort Benning. Just let me know. P.S. 22 good years of service and still going..

You must have read a different rule book because, my boss was a Ranger and he never gave up his Freedom of Speech. He did limit it several times to name, rank and serial number....yep, two tours during Vietnam. Much pain in his stories.

These guys took a pee! What the heck is the big deal? My word, should this really even be a discussion? They took a pee? They are seeing their friends die, dealing with things most of us will never comprehend, and not having the luxury of being able to trust the people they are there to help and so, they took a pee! Seriously, I can't even see what the deal is here. Poor guys are probably in a world of crap now because they did something that soldiers do. Happened there, happened in the first Gulf War, happened in Vietnam, Korea, WWII and probably before that. Give our guys a break. I think they have shown tremendous restraint in ONLY people on there murdering, terrorist animals.

I understand the anger and the desire to get our enemies, but is it right to desecrate the dead bodies of fellow human beings in this way? Imagine if enemy soldiers began mutilating or desecrating dead American soldiers, would y'all be so happy then? This sort of behaviour is unacceptable and not befitting the high standards of conduct that soldiers in a Western army should display. Imagine if that was the body of your son being p*ss*d on and say you would be ok with it.

What do you mean, what if they started doing desecrating the bodies of our dead? Where have you been? They have a history of desecrating the bodies of our fallen and the living. This is not about if I saw them peeing on my son how would I feel. This is about a few Marines taking a piss. A far cry from cutting peoples heads off, dragging them bodies through the street, mutilation, etc. The fact that you cannot see that shocks me. You are saying it is ok for us to shoot, bomb, beat up, stab and napalm the enemy, but OH NO!!! DON'T TAKE A PEE ON THEIR DEAD BODIES!!! Seriously? That doesn't even make sense.

As for citing the enemy beheadings, do two wrongs now make a right? Do we abandon our moral high ground and become like the evil we are trying to defeat? The problem with fools like you is that you act first and engage your brain afterwards. If the wars in the Middle East are wars of winning hearts and minds, as the political establishment of both parties acknowledge that it is, then how is this sort of behaviour going to achieve this objective? This behaviour will be a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda, who will use these images to provoke anger and gather recruits to kill even more Americans. Also, soldiers, like others, are employees of the government and the constitution is there to limit the power and actions that agents of government may engage in. Would it be acceptable for a police officer to pee on a suspect, or any government employee to behave in this way? Why should such basic codes of conduct not be applied to soldiers? Do SWAT teams pee on the suspects they shoot and kill in a raid on a house? Of course not.

I am surprised that something so obvious, rudimentary and basic must be explained to another adult. Even a child understands cause and effect, and the desire to seek revenge for grievances.

I agree with you that this was totally unacceptable. I am a vet of over 20 years’ service including Nam - and Gulf 1 among others people don't even know about. However, the environment plays havoc on the mind in those conditions. This was viewed across this media to people that can’t even imagine the scope of what these soldiers endure. No sleep and 24/7 fear of anyone around you that may take your life. Although this was not what is taught to the military, momentary stress relief takes many forms. These men know what they did was wrong but at the time it happened, I guarantee you it was accomplished due to venting and relief that another person eager and willing to end your life is out of the picture. Disrespect, I’d bet, never entered their minds. It is impossible for people not under their conditions to condemn something they don’t understand.

I have a friend who was among the first wave of reserves sent over to Iraq and he's got some horror in the brain. And he's a former Marine.
These young men should not have recorded this so it could be leaked (no pun intended) to the world. The rest of what they did? I have no problem with it.

Osama Bin Laden was a murdering terrorist animal who believed women should be stoned for driving on their own, they should be able to be married at the age of 12 (and younger) and helped finance the killing of tens of thousands of innocent people world-wide (including his own people). He was actively engaged in terrorist activities and was shot during a gun battle with Navy Seals (which shows what an obvious incompetent idiot he was).
