County orders two fire trucks

Lamar County will be getting two 2011 fire trucks, allowing it to have trucks at each station in the county – plus a spare – despite retiring two 30-year-old trucks, bought used from DeKalb County years ago, to be used at the new training facility.

Guess they are buying a spare truck because of the way some of the volunteers drive!!

ok now they are going to spend 117,000 a year for 5 years to pay for the trucks and thats even after they pay 20,000 down. then they are saving 30,000 but not doing what was supposed to be done to build a new station. but we still pay a fire tax? can you say RATS IN HIDING

This should make the citizens of Lamar Irate! How much of our money jas to be wasted before we make a stand! How many more fees?

Yep, Truby has wasted so much with that "Fine Arts" business. It's time for him to move on and let some new blood come in. After eight years..gosh! He has completed a lot of things but at what cost? The school system is in debt up to it's ears. They built the fine arts and stadium with splost money true enough. But they have to pay a 40,000 dollar light bill each month just to keep them going. What was he thinking?

Don't knock on my door again!! The citizens of this county had to pay a fire fee because this county was broke? Something is rotten in Lamar County!

You voted for the SPLOST and finally the citizens are getting what they voted for. How would you feel if one of the older trucks showed up at your house when it was on fire and quit working. I bet you would cry foul then too. The equipment needs to be replaced. I also agree that the PD needs new cars as well. I for one want all my public servants to have good and dependable equipment

I hope they measured the trucks and are sure they will fit into the fire station.

A firetruck only works if you have people to use it. Why not hire some firefighters with that money instead.

I received a notice that stated that I had still owed my 2010 fire, EMS bill plus interest. I phoned the young lady at the office and read the paid date, initials of the person who signed the receipt for cash paid. She entered the payment into the ledger and said that it is now taken care of. I was not asked to come down to show my receipt which makes me wonder if these other "missing payments" weren't paid in cash as mine was.

This is stupid the county is upside down and it takes an idiot to agree with taking 120,000 of our SPLOST dollars a year to pay for fire equipment that we cant man, Anybody know how many miles we can possibly put on our fire engines in a month. They cant possibly be worn out!

Chimneys countywide rejoice. That is all this crack bunch will save anyway.

Last year I called the county fire here. Took three 911 calls and 20 minutes before they finally showed. But then the structure was burned to the ground.

Cut this budget for this crowd to the bone. Need two trucks countywide. And a new fire chief.
