I believe Huey was profiled in one of writer Ann Rule's books. I need to try to find the book again. It was one of the shorter of her stories.
Quite fascinating.
I don't remember an Ann Rule book, but I remember a book written by a former Fayette County investigator that chronicled several high profile murders in Georgia. In it, there was a section dedicated to another Huey case in Griffin. Steven Huey was profiled in this one. He murdered and then decapitated his friend after they stole money from another friend. This murder took place in the early 1990's.
The investigators name is Bruce Jordan I think. I'm postivie Jordan is his last name, but could be wrong about the first name. I don't remember the title of the book, but it had Peach State in it. Maybe Murder in the Peach State....not positive on that one either. This particular murder stands out with me because the victim had worked with my husband at one time in the late 80's.
gerald steven huey is serving a life sentence for the murder of tim kent. he was convicted of murdering kent for money and decapitating kent and severing his hands in an attempt to conceal his identity. his conviction and sentence have been affirmed several time and his guilt is not in doubt. from recollection, the case came to light when a dog dragged the severed head of the victim into a yard.
kent is a prolific letter writer and has written me several times to chime in on local cases. he was briefly a suspect in the donna johnson murder but was eliminated.
from the georgia supreme court summary of huey's case:
The evidence showed that Kent and Baggett camped outside of Huey's home on the night of March 16-17, 1991, and that Kent and Huey agreed to and did take $2,500 from Carol Baggett that night while Baggett was sleeping and then divided the money equally between them. Moreover, the evidence would have authorized a rational trier of fact to conclude that during the following week Huey spent his share of the stolen money and then killed Kent to obtain his share as well.
Did Huey have 2 sons? One of whom might be the person paroled above?
I ask because the 2 sons were raised in deplorable conditions. In the story, one son went into a life of crime, and the other from all accounts escaped the path set before him. Both local boys.
