Quimby Melton Jr. celebrated his 90th birthday Sunday by attending First United Methodist Church in Griffin where he has been a member for 88 years and missed very few Sundays. He received and acknowledged an ovation in the sanctuary for which Laura broke the ground on her fourth birthday.

Happy birthday to a kind, intelligent Christian man! He has been a patient father leading by example. He has been loyal to his family, his country and his central Georgia community! His impact on the journalism community will be evident forever! He has influenced several generations including mine. Our lives are better because of him (and Mrs. May!).

I heard the respect in the voices of those who worked for him at the Griffin Daily News many years ago. Even the most gruff and hardest of men who worked at that newspaper spoke of him with love.
I have had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. Melton a couple of times and I see him as a true Southern gentleman.
Happy 90th birthday, Mr. Melton!

Quimby Melton Jr is an example to all us men on how we should live, serve, and interact with society. Instead of representing a "dying breed" of man, perhaps Mr. Melton's life will inspire a new generation of Godly, serving, men of integrity. And that would make a very positive difference in our world - right here.

God Bless all the Meltons as I knew Quimby Melton, III in the Boy Scouts at Camp Thunder in Upson Co. as a teenager in the late 1960's. Many Melton's are descended from my Haygood's and Stroud's of Watkinsville, Ga. from near after the Rev. War days. I am near 63 in a few days, and I say God Bless you all, Amen and Amen, forever.
