New turn lanes being constructed through Barnesville will not be complete for quite a while – so drivers need to continue to be careful in the work zone. It will be August or September before the roads are relined. New signals are scheduled to be in place by September or October. The final topping of asphalt should be applied in fall as well.

I noticed one, just by chance, where there was no road to turn onto. The next time I went to Griffin, I looked more carefully. These are big nice turn lanes but many of them go nowhere because there is no road to turn on. Take a ride up 341 sometime soon, and count those turns that there is no road to turn on to. Look also for the turn lanes that turn into small roads to church parking lots (there are 2 of those).
What are we DOING?????????????? Do we not have enough waste without this???????????
Oh, when you take that ride up the road, just look from our traffic signal where Hwy 18 turns off up to where Hwy 19 turns off at the first light you come to in Griffin. Take a friend and a note pad. I am no expert, but I think we just blew a big hole in a lot of money with not much to show for it except a lot of wasted asphalt.
Someone outta look into this waste and abuse of our hard earned money! Is this just GDOT trying to spend all their $$ so they can get more of our tax dollars? Was some local entity consulted for this project? Did any of our local leaders have to approve this, or are we at the mercy of the state? Wherever the waste occurred, how do we stop kind of reckless spending?

Hey, for smog, we have a new power plant now that is allowed to put out more pollutants than a coal plant, so that won't help much... plus stinking Greenco is still here.
I don't want to change the subject though. These turn lanes are nothing but a fiasco and we need to get the attention of whomever it may take to stop the spending right here at home!

I am working on who is responsible as we speak!
But let me clear something up. There are things the county needs more than bicycle paths and YMCA. I don't think all kids are bad apples at all. For the most part, we have good kids with parents who care... but those are probably not going to be the bulk of the kids that would inhabit YMCA's activities. Those other kids with little of the kind of care you and I may have had growing up need something, but that needs to be carefully thought through before spending $$ on something that may not be the real answer.
There is now scouts, 4-H, FFA, and I bet there are ball leagues who would be glad to have more kids and would mentor them to a degree. We may already have things in place to do some good. Spending $$ on projects is not always the answer, re: turn lanes on 341/41.
I don't know about the new plant, except for what people have said here, but I have had the opportunity to talk with folks who live near the other fiasco, Greenco, and I understand how they feel and I personally would make a lot of noise if I had to live near those... I think, no matter our leanings, there are many things we can agree upon.

It makes me sad to watch old films of our country in the 60's and earlier and see how we were growing, and then look at the 80's onward at our decline.
I was watching Shark Tank the other night, and a lady invented a diaper system and patented it. She went to China for manufacturing, and after she taught them the technology they started selling product through Singapore.
I see this in the electronics industry. ITT Jennings and other companies have moved relay manufacturing to China, and now back door identical copies are sold out of China. They obviously are using American technology and tooling to run extra that they sell under another label, just like they did to a company I design for.
At least a dollar spent in this country stays in this country as a dollar, but a dollar shipped overseas comes back as pennies.
I'm not sure how we fix the big stuff when we are so busy picking at each other.
You are SO right!! Picking nits does little good, and the game goes on. Some have told me this road project is history and the money is spent and I should forget it. But Lamar County has a big WASTED TAX MONEY sign that goes on for miles.
It is time to know it, to bring it out, to speak up. No one can bring the $$ back, but I should not be the only one calling DOT and even our legislators to look for answers to how this could happen. 12 million dollars, used properly in this county, could do a lot of good. Arguments about what to spend it on are worthless because it just won't happen.
The bigger picture is stopping the waste. Why am I the only one to talk about the wasted money? This is tax money, part of it anyhow, that was collected from everyone in this state.... so we paid for the fiasco that we see.

That's another good example why we are in trouble, and why unemployement and underemployement is so high.
Think about all those people who used to work at Carter's, and who is paying for them now.
It is not the fault of the Commission that we have the turn lanes, but we do need a forum to address this county and its leaders. Some of those are the County Commission meeting, the City Council meeting, the School Board meeting.
Most of us don't regularly go to those meetings, but we should, and we need to speak up however many times it takes to be heard. By being heard clearly, we cannot become spoiled children who must have our way every time, but we must become more known than we are now.
I am willing to get together with others to discuss... anyone else?
Julia
Now, with that said, I agree with you that we have not got enough participation at the ballot box, at the county and city meetings (not to mention state and national town halls that representatives and senators may hold), in choosing good candidates sometimes, in supporting candidates and a lot more.
So, rather than turn this into a moaning contest, let's talk about what can be done and get it done.
Julia
its obvious how other people voted, open your eyes!just look at who keeps getting re-elected over and over.
what can be done is simple!stop voting the same clowns back in office expecting them to change!you can sit here an stomp your feet, cry, hold your breath untill your face turns blue, lamar county will allways be a back water second rate county left behind from rest of the world as long as people keep voting the same good ol boys back in office time after time.
I know what I am doing and I know what some other very active people are doing. I don't know what you are doing other than a lot of complaining. And, by the way, I don't hide behind initials. My name is out there for everyone to see and understand who I am. What are YOU doing?
