A local street thug with a long criminal history has been charged with the murder of local taxi service owner John Dixson.

your looking at the new face of Barnesville Ga.get used to it because it will never get any better,its all down hill from here.you can stomp your feet and hold your breath untill your face turns blue,you can scream its the satan himself at work.
keep electing the same old crowd.the same old boys and their buddies,sons Ect..

If he has a long criminal history already then why was he out on the streets! Quit slapping them on the hand and giving them three meals a day and air and heat! Put them on cots out in the open air day and night. Make them work for their food and see how long they last. We as American citizens have got to take America back. Justice has got to serve and get these people off the streets. We have become a welfare nation, get a job and earn what you get or don't get anything! Quit giving them a free ride.
When Gordon lowered its standards crime started getting worse in Barnesville. Take drug dogs in the dorms and see what you find. Maybe that would be a start.
An innocent man has lost his life and now the citizens of Barnesville along with his precious family is suffering.
And no I am not judging anyone but if the shoe fits wear it!

It's a crying shame that a man who spent his life serving the people of this community was apparently abducted and murdered by a homegrown thug.

If the law enforcement in our community including the DA were doing their jobs, this THUG would have been in jail and this tragic murder would not have happened. I am so sorry that these type of people are ruining our community. THUGS like this have nothing stopping them because they know the DA will only slap their hands. I want everyone to take a long look at his picture and see the emptiness in this man's eyes. He is no more than a serial killer.

I want to add to my previous comment regarding the law enforcement. I actually want to apologize for my comment made in the previous post regarding our law enforcement. I want further say that I do appreciate our local law enforcement and all they do for our community. It is my belief that many of our local law enforcement are very passionate about their jobs and want to do everything they can to eliminate crime from our community. However, without the cooperation of the DA their hands are tied and there is little the law enforcement can do without the support of the DA. Again, I apologize for my remarks toward law enforcement and hope that I may be forgiven for my previous remark.

However, I do believe that we need to give much thought to who we elect to serve us as our district attorney. Many victims of violent crimes in our community have not received justice. It is time that the citizens of Lamar County take a serious look at this situation and seek change when we go to the polls and elect a new DA. The person who holds this position should be on the side of the victim and not that of the criminals. This person should be an advocate for the families of the victims of violent crimes. Our current DA shows little concern for the victims or families of violent crimes that have taken place in our community. In fact, the DA is perceived as being anything but compassionate for our victims/families, disregarded the expertise of outside agencies here to help solve crimes, and shows little effort to see justice served.

It is time that we step us and let our voices be heard on behalf of the victims of our community. We need to stand up for the victims of unsolved crimes, the ones that their murderers were allowed to plea bargain, and those arrested who will hopefully go to trial. We need to make sure that these criminals face consequences that match the crimes they committed. We need to stand together and speak up for the victims that cannot speak or seek justice for their crimes. Otherwise, we will continue to see crime escalate in our community and little be done to bring justice for the crimes committed at the hands of those responsible for the crimes.

If this is a home-grown thug, there is a chance that his family knows Mr. Dixson. How dreadful is that?
And I noticed his eyes too, Ms. Fleming. Ain't no lights on, ain't no soul at home.
When he takes his ride to prison, I hope there are convicts there who knew Mr. Dixson. I hope this person spends every day afraid, like Mr. Dixson surely was.

Maybe it's time for the FBI to step in and clean house just like they did when they cleaned house and revamped the New Orleans Police Department in the mid 1990's. Additionally is it time to call in the US DEA to help crack down and arrest those who are responsible for the production and distribution of the drugs that seem to run wild in B'Ville? I am not saying that our local law enforcement can not do the job, maybe they just need some more manpower and heavy hitters.

I'm sorry for the family that has lost someone special but it just kills me how racism is still going on. When that white boy did the hit and run was "thug" ever mentioned??? No it was not, an do not get me wrong I am not saying that he should not suffer he did do wrong I am simply saying that these racist remark should be kept to yourself!!! R.IP. Lauren: Because "the white boy" was not a thug...simple. Jamarris Williams has a criminal record and is known to associate with gangs (and other thugs).

Thug is not a racist term, it is a state of being. A thug can be any color. Someone is a thug by the company they keep and the actions they take. I would not say that these two people you refer to are equal in that regard. Both guilty? Probably, but they are not both thugs.

Speak for yourself. I use it and have heard law enforcement use it to describe all criminals of this type (brutish murdering thieves). When I say it I am not referring only to a black male person, I am referring to any person that acts in a thuggish manner. Don't blame everyone else for your prejudice wrapped up in that word. If that is what you think when you read it, that is your issue, not others.

I am going to have to reply to this. What the white boy did was wrong, but has it been proven that he knew what he hit? Has it been proven that maybe he didn't see the person walking down the rode? Not defending him at all but he did not brutally rob and kill an innocent man that was loved by this community and was a service to other elderly people. Mr.Dixson was not in this for the money he was doing what he loved. So therefore I consider this idiot that committed this horrendous crime a thug! He could have taken the money and not killed a man so loved by his community and family!!!! Just sayn!!!

Walter wrote an article in the HG on 11/13/2009 regarding this worthless piece of excrement. Williams was arrested for chaining a pit bull and abandoning the dog resulting in the dog's death. His mug shot taken at that 2009 arrest along with his current mug shot reveals a contemptuous disconnected gaze void of life.

Williams's goals are most likely to be an unemployed drop out, pants-on-the ground, hat-turned sideways, Rap brained, Ghetto speaking, dope toking, rat packer and chief sperm donor to various hoochies so as to create new generations of worthless welfare cheats. His greatest aspiration is probably to be the BIG Dawg in the hood as a permanant layabout on Mill Street looking for an easy mark to prey upon. Mr. Dixson would be alive today if Williams had been serving 5 years for felony aggravated cruelty to animals instead of skulking around Lamar County doing dastardly deeds and then retreating to his lair in Fullers Trailer Park where he can "chill" around a campfire and swill wine with his homies while exchanging methods on "thuggerism".

Walter, what were the outcomes of William's 2009 arrest and 2011 theft arrest?

I could not agree more. If the animal cruelty charge had been taken to the fullest, Mr. Dixon might be alive today.
It is a proven fact that people who abuse animals go on to abuse wives and children, and in this case, commit violent crimes.
When, oh when, will animal cruelty be taken seriously by law enforcement, and more importantly, by the court system?
This is a serious red flag to future behavior, and bears total commitment by a civilized society.

We all need to take a look at ourselves and our families. People need to start taking care of their kids and stop letting them run the street like they don't have any home training. We as parents need to step up and reign our children in. We need to go to city council mettings and express our concerns and Sammy needs to shut that store down because it is a public nusiance as far as I see. Peolpe just hang around up there and beg for money and drink and smoke and ironically it is right across from the police station and nothing is done about this ans Sammy knows better because he sits on the city coiuncil. Everyone should do their part to make Barnesville a better place. Too much crime is going on we need to put a curfew on these teenagers and do something about these Gordon College Students that bring crime to town. Mr. JOHN did not have to lose his life if this person had already been locked up. Police and the DA need to do their job and keep these kind of people off the streets. Mr. John I hope you rest in peace and we miss you and we love you , you will never be forgotten.

There is no need to talk about who was what color at all. A good man has been killed. Someone did it. Black, white, purple or green with pink polka dots... it does not matter the race. What matters is stopping this senseless crime in Lamar County. Let's concentrate on the problem... not the color.

You know Julia.....I think it is time we talk about color. When common denominators are so blatantly obvious...are we not stupid to ignore them? The words Civil Rights, Politically Correct and Racism need to become extinct in our world. A dearly loved black man has been brutally murdered by a monstrous black THUG who should have been in jail at the time.

I actually believe that Mr. Dixson's family has a potential lawsuit against the county in this needless murder..........AND I hope they are as Kathryn Smith's family, VERY DILIGENT about checking into the situation....with an out-of-town lawyer.

If thugs of all colors out number the cells available, call Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona. He has a big desert.

Thats right its not about color here, its about someone took this sweet, honest, hardworking,Good mans life for what? I dont care how much money he got from Mr.John that wasnt worth taking that mans life!!!! I spoke to Mr.John almost every morning at B&L convience store, He was always very sweet and would talk to u about your hole family cause he knew everyone. Probely even know this thing that killed him!!! What a shame!!!!!
