When NBC's "Today" show played the audio of George Zimmerman's call to a Sanford, Fla., police dispatcher about Trayvon Martin, the editors made him appear to be a racist who says: "This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black."

Do you really think that posting an article written by a black man is going to make any one think different about race here in Barnesville or around the country (or world for that matter)? What this does is shows one person's opinion on the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman issue. I think that this young man's murder should be the main focus of the investigation and not his racial background (and the same should be said about the accused shooter). What everyone has forgot about is that both families are greatly effected by this tragedy (just like the senseless murders and violent acts that we have experienced in our own backyards here in Barnesville).
Whether Trayvon's death happened accidently or intentionally, it did happen! That is what we and all of the media outlets should be talking about. I personally don't care what color or race he is, he was shot...PERIOD!!! I think the prupose of all of the protests and rallys were to bring light to the fact that an individual was killed and that no one was being held accountable for it. The local law enforcement tried to "sweep it under the rug" and act like nothing ever happened! Had the job Sanford Police Department been performed properly we probably would not have heard a single word about this incident! People die everyday! Someone is killed everyday! Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman became household names around the world because of the incompetnece of the local law enforcement! Did they really think that this young man's parents were going to sit idle and be quiet knowing that they would never see or be able to talk to their son again? Come on now Barnesville ask yourself, what would you do if your child, love one, or friend was taken away from you in this manner? What would you do to make sure that his or her death was not in vain?
Mr. Williams made some very valid points, but I personally feel that Mr. Geiger's article was not posted to heal, but to hinder. I say this because of past posts that I have read on this site. Someone can make a post about how beautiful it is outside, and before the last punctuation is made on the last response it has turned into racial disgust. This article is an open invitation to that type of ignorance!
While I know that I will receive some form of backlash for my comments, I say to you "bring it on"!!! Hopefully we all will one day be able to move forward and stop looking and judging and individual because of the color of their skin, their religious background, etc. Treat everyone the way that you want to be treated and that will be the beginning of the healing process that we need in Barnesville! God Bless!!!
YOUR OWN FIRST SENTENCE PROVES WITHOUT ANY DOUBT.......YOU ARE RACIST. Bring it on back now...let's talk.
Do you have something against intelligent black columnist?
Truth is, a lot of people are hoping these things are racially motivated. People look for racism under every bush and around every corner. Some people involved publicly in this Trayvon Martin shooting make their livelihood off of turning everything into a racial issue. Do we have racism in this country? Of course. And, unfortunately, it is always going to be there in one degree or another. I has been around as far as we can look back into our history. But there is a difference between there being racism and thriving on the idea of racism. The media and certain activist aren't looking to build bridges, but to set them on fire at the first opportunity.
Trayvon Martin was indeed shot by George Zimmerman. I don't think anyone is ignoring that fact. More media time has been devoted to this one event than almost any other story this year. Yet, as you pointed out, this likely just a horrible tragedy. So, you have to ask yourself why this gets some much airplay? Have you ever wondered about all of the other killings that have happened since that night in February that the two (or more) people involved were of different ethnicity, and yet none of them are getting the push that this one is? Why? Do you really think it was because the Sanford PD try to "sweep it under the rug"? If that is the case, then isn't the media and every other PD across the country trying to sweep those other kiddings under the rug? Does that even make sense? Of course not.
In this case, the Sanford PD investigated and found nothing to suggest a crime was committed. Some one didn't like that answer, the media sunk its teeth in and it became the circus that it is. Forgetting that Trayvon Martin was shot and died happened long before this article was written/posted. And it was forgotten by the people that were supposedly there to make sure it wasn't forgotten.
I agree with you that this should have nothing to do with race. To bad that the people supposedly standing up for Trayvon Marrtin turned it into that. I think your outrage is misdirected. If you want to help in healing, start by directing your resentment at the mishandling of the story of the shooting of Trayvon Martin and the people that pimped it out for the sake of personal advantage. Perhaps the divide over race, real healing and focusing on what is important if people start telling the race-baters that enough is enough.
I made my post to simply suggest that even with Mr. Williams being a black man that it was not going to change the perception of how others view race in Barnesville and this country! How some people viewed my comments as racist is in itself ASININE!!! I also made my comments to "put local law enforcement on notice" everywhere that they have to do the job that they were selected to do...PERIOD! Again, if SPD had charged Mr. Zimmerman with the murder from the very beginning, then this conversation (and ridiculous responses) would not be happening.
So please misunderstand me again, I am waiting for it to happen! While you all are conjuring up what to say to my response I will continue to have a GREAT DAY!!!
Yeu Kno Hu, you are definitely right about one thing, WE all need to tell the race-baters to go to HELL because WE are sick and tired of it!!! Good Day!
Sorry you are all worked up, but you need to take a step back and decide what it is you are really worked up about. And, if you want to reply to what I wrote, at least stay on subject. At this point I don't even think you know what you mean.
By the way, I'm having a GREAT DAY!!! I just hope that yours will be too!!! :-)
Asinine means utterly foolish. A totally correct adjective for your excessively wordy comment.
